Hmm, should we be putting spoilers in the titles of threads...? Seems kinda uncool.

If you don't want to read spoilers, then you should take out your eyes before coming to this forum.

One could make that argument... Although I'd point out that the comic has been out a day... so I still don't think it's very cool. Of course, this news was obvious when the first pic of him was released, but arguably pics are easier to avoid. #justsayin

I know, I was attempting teh funneh

The codex doesn't state that he died in that case. It is assumed.

It seems likely to be canon that Arishok is the new Arishok.

Arishok is the new Arishok? Is that anything like "Black is the new black"?

Face it, Sten died if you left him in Lothering.

Sten was his job, not his name. If he got promoted he's not called Sten anymore.

That isn't too far fetched I guess.

Yeah, Sten wasn't his name, it was his title. His position under the Qun.

So if "Sten" is the new Arishok, that means his "name" is now Arishok.

Is this canon?

What if he was left in the cage?

Cages can't hold kossith.

Well now I feel better for always leaving Sten to die now.

Kossith don't like being left for dead either.

But how did he get his sword back? He can't go home with out it.

Then he died.

There's nothing saying he died as a definite outcome. Only that he "most likely died", and that's only due to the Warden's inability to go and check on Lothering to see.

Leaving him in a cage to die does not mean he actually dies as a result.

Any objections?

Good.

Alistair: Hey, Sten, what are you getting your parents for Satin---
Arishok: My parents are Qunari! And the name is Arishok!

Which would mean he escaped the blight, got his sword back and did something important enough to become Arishok, all by himself. After MotA, that sounds like something that would happen.

I would argue, were this not Sten. For such a character, there may be allowances.

Honestly, I imagine Sten being let out by the Grand Cleric or someone else as a means for atonement so long as he defends some of the villagers against the Darkspawn.

After a while doing that and surviving, he's allowed to go to his homeland. But he knows that he must find his sword first. So he goes off looking for it, though with not much hope for success. After a while, he finds it in a very Sten-like fashion, and goes off to study the Blight, learning about the connection between the Darkspawn and the Old Gods.

Then he goes home.

Also, he discovers cookies. Because a Sten that hasn't discovered cookies is a Sten not worth having.

If Alistair attacks Sten then he will have earned himself a 1 way ticket to the executioners block in my next play-through for his stupidity and recklessness. Plus his presence in the comics in Antiva and now Tevinter is proof enough for me that Anora is far more worthy of the throne

Yeah, I'll be pissed if Alistair attacks Sten. That'll seem way too... hamfisted, I guess would be the term.

Especially if the Stenishok loses to Alistair. That'll be absurd.

Man, i loved Sten in Origins - this is obviously a set up for his return in DA3, Hopefully they do him justice after all the John Connor/Arnie Bonds i built up with the guy.

What a surprise. Sten continues to be a complete douchenozzle, like all Qunari.

Hope I get to kill him myself.

This is awesome. I hope I see Sten as the Arishok in Inquisition :D. Loved his character, was disappointed he didn't appear in 2. I'm also liking his badass new look!

Sten's not really a douchenozzle in Those Who Speak. He calls Alistair "kadan" -- a term he uses for those he respects as his brothers -- and apparently "basalit-an". And as we all know, that means "outsider worthy of respect".

The "kadan" I'm fine with, but I think elevating Alistair to "basalit-an" is a bit much, without a good solid reason for why the Stenishok considers Alistair such a thing.

Though I suppose it could be due to the talks Alistair and the Stenishok have had about the Qun, which Alistair will tell the Warden about during the gossip session.

I have a feeling though that the Stenishok and Alistair will team up to hunt down this Tevinter Mage Aurelian Titus, because the Qunari are just as interested in him as Alistair is -- though for their own reasons.

If the wiki is accurate, the Qunari are interested in him because he's connected to something dealing with the Old Gods.

And then he backhands him across the face. That's not how I treat my friends, and I don't think "religious differences" is an excuse.

Sten just has a very masochistic view of friendship, he didnt call my warden Kadan until after i kicked his ass in the frostbacks.

SPOILER WARNING

I was shocked that Alistair killed the Witch. I hope Morrigan isn't too pissed when she finds out.
Besides, I'm not sure I'm liking where the plot is heading, with the blood of Calenhad tied to the return of the Dragons.
I don't know if it was discussed before in the novels (I haven't read them) but let's see what happens with that.

END OF SPOILER

Sorry... serious brain was too serious. But honestly, also agree... it's risky to browse the forums if you're worried about spoilers. That said, I'd hope we can all try to limit to the best of our ability. Still trying to figure out for myself what to do about DA3 spoilers... :D

edit: BTW, thanks, OP!

Can someone tell me... is there only one Arishok in all of Qunari-dom? Is he like THE General, or a step down?

Only one Arishok at a time, yes. He is the military leader, and one third of the triumvirate that basically controls every aspect of the Qunari society. The other two positions I believe are Arigena, who governs agriculture and crafting disciplines, and the Ariqun, who handles all religious and philosophical matters.

I think either the Arigena or Ariqun is always female, but I forget which.

Cool. Thanks. Just can't seem to keep the Qunari lore in my head. I blame Sten and my inability to ever even remotely understand him or his logic. :P

So, are the Tamassrans part of the Ariqun branch?

So Sten is now Arishok.
I hope he has the sense to stay out my way. The last I fought him he went down very quickly.
