Looking at the pictures posted on Andreas Rocha's site, I came upon one that fits perfectly with DA2 : a dockside look upon Gallows.

Damn fine job, Hrungr. Damn fine job.

Thanks! I've got thousands of fantasy images on my HD...

Next stop... forests and trees.

Posted Image

Ruin: I love the flow from the outdoors to the indoors. If you could still see the trees swaying the breeze outside the ruin, it would really help tie it all together. And the little pond of the floor with vegetation creeping around the boarders, the overgrown steps, the filtered lighting... beautiful.

Posted Image

Swamp: I like the idea of wandering through a forest and seeing it transition from living forest to a more progressively dead area until you reach the epicenter. A clearing with broad dead trees, swampy water, and a monochromatic, slightly sepia tones to the entire scene. Mist drifing across the water... and *now* bring out the killer trees.

Posted Image

Elven Temple: I just like the overall feel of this. The ruddy tones of the tree actually casting a dim red glow to the surrounding temple. Imagine standing under the dark branches in pale streams of ruddy light.

Posted Image

Forest Overhang: It has a sense of openness and yet enclosure all the same time. Little streams of water flowing off the overhangs into little streams feeding into pond. Ruins which are almost completely overgrown. I'm sure you can think of all kind of encounter scenerios that could happen here.

Posted Image

Whale Island: I like the idea of a place that is... more than it seems.

Posted Image

Woods: I like the variety of vegetation here. A real old forest. It's not just your standard cedar tree and cedar shrub. And I like the color feel of it as well. The palish green morning mist in the forest really works.

Towns and Villages

Posted Image

Cliff Town: I love the vista this creates. Lots of cliff-hugging walkways, view points and a river below with ships coming and going. And the light from homes spilling out into the night... Again, just needs a little DA flair. Could even morph the idea into a dwarven settlement.

Posted Image

Tevinter: Like the idea of a city built along the contours of a river. And I love the narrow island in the middle. You could walk along the shore road looking across the narrow channel to people milling about on the other side. Feels very "Tivinter" to me...

Posted Image

Walkway: Another cliff-hanging village, this time with a wee more sinister bent. Love the deep shadows and the narrowness of the chasm. Here the warm lights spilling from the caves are not-so-inviting...

Posted Image

Lost Village: Love the geography of this region and how the village is nestled right in there. Beautiful vista.

Posted Image

Spire Village: Continuing with the theme of improbably located villages, I like how the homes are so humble and has an overall very rustic feel to it set against amongst the more dramatic geography.

Posted Image

Tower: Just as an example of a grand structure that is a work-in-progress. It would be nice to see something being built in DA3. Workers, scaffolding, foundries in use, etc.

Caves:

Posted Image

Descent: Ideally it'd be great to be able to walk from an "outdoor" environment seemlessly into a yawning cavern like this. What I really like about this descent into the Deep Roads is just how wide the staircase is, the very open feel to it and the pale light coming from the entrance. As you get down further and further the shadows continue to deepen.

Posted Image

Ice Cavern: Again, I'd love to see a seemless transition from the outdoors into the cavern. Just how it all ties the locales together. And, again, just the openness of it all but not without numourous places for things to be hiding.

Posted Image

Deeper into the Ice Cavern: Just the organic structure, the translucency of the ice and how it breaks up into nice irregular columns helps break up the streaming light. And as you get further into the cavern, the light continues to fall off until you're in near darkness. Also, leaving the cavern - the feeling you get as the light gets slowly, but progressively brighter as you near the exit. It's little things like that which helps set the mood.

Posted Image

Cave Lake: Love the idea of being able to boat around in an underground lake. Even as a cut scene.

Posted Image

Thaig: Like the vista this creates. Stepping out of a tunnel into a yawning cave that drops off below your feet, but on the other side... a settlement with hearth-fires burning, etc. Maybe with a pulley, cart and chain system to get you across.

Random stuff:

Posted Image

Crevasse: I just like the organic feel of this with the thick, draping stalagtites, the steep, twisting stairwells and the dim lighting from above.

Posted Image

Vista: Love the composition of the geography here. Nice transition from standing in the shadow of the mountaintop overlooking a brightly-lit valley.

Posted Image

Castle: I like the idea of a somewhat non-standard castle design. Here we cave one which is built on a curve. And the raised, exposed stairwell zig-zagging up to it is a nice touch.

Posted Image

Dreadnaught: Would be nice to see an impressive design for the Qunari ships.

Posted Image

Exodus: I thought it'd be an cool adventure having to lead a populace from a burning city. Maybe a bit too LotR-ish, but it would certainly be a different style of quest than we're used to seeing.

Alright, that's probably enough images on one page. We want people to load it so they can see it. :P

Stick to real world references, Orlais sounds very French so let it look French.

Yo know god did made world and after he finished France he look´d down on it and say´ed.
"the most beautifully work I ever have done"," I have put something ugly in it to keep the balance" and so god created the French man. Now France is a average country.

To be more specific: Lord of the Rings shot in New Zealand.

If there's gonna be beaches in this game, let them be HAPPY BEACHES. BRIGHT BEACHES.

Not all dead and brown like in DA2. That was lame.

The vistas posted by the OP remind me of playing Skyrim....it still amazes me that you could look at a mountain in the distance and decide......I'll go have a wander over there,10 minutes later your actually standing on the very same mountain.Amazing.

Dude, you have NO IDEA how much I love doing that in Skyrim.

And DA devs stated that they're looking HEAVILY into Skyrim. That doesn't mean the game's gonna be anything like Skyrim of course, just that they might be inspired by it for certain appropriate parts of DA3.

I hope they can take some of that world beauty Skyrim has and find a way to make DA3 contain its own beautiful world.

Thanks! We see plenty of character-driven twists but very rarely do you see location twists.

That whale island is awesome. Reminds me of the giant turtle in Majora's Mask (except... gianter)

Some really nice concept art in here.
