Dragon Age movie is canonical?
Great question. I'd like to know this about the novels, as well!
The novels are canonical, and if you have not read
Asunder and you like lore then I highly suggest you do read it. The events in
Asunder fill in what happened between the end of the Mage-Templar Battle of Kirkwall (9:37 Dragon) and Varric's interrogation (9:40 Dragon).
Asunder ends with the Circles of Magi and the Seeker and Templar Orders announcing their seperation from the Chantry. It essentially sets the stage for what we're likely to expect in DAIII.
Also, some really interesting stuff happens in
Asunder. Shale makes an appearance. Can't recommend it enough. It's a good holdover until DAIII at least.
As for
Dawn of the Seeker? I don't know if I want to go as far to say that it is definitely canonical--since there are events that happen in DotS that I am scratching my head as to why they have never been mentioned elsewhere--but it does shed some light on Cassandra's background and well as explore the relations between the Seekers, the templars, and the Chantry. To the best of my knowledge, DotS takes place between 9:34 and 9:37 Dragon, and the end of the movie hints that Cassandra may have been investigating Kirkwall for a while even before she was asked to find Hawke.
The current comic series,
The Silent Grove and
Those Who Speak and the future third arc (
Until We Sleep I think it's being called?) is also canonical. Or, I should say, it follows BioWare's own canon. I don't know why people refuse to believe this. So the comics may not follow choices you made in your own playthroughs--like Alistair becoming king--but it's still worth reading. Then again, I am always hungry for more lore ahahahahah.
