Says who? You?

A person doesn't owe you or society anything. If you don't like her asthetics, don't look, but no one has to dictate how a person has to look like. That is only their business and theirs alone. Easy as.

For those uncomfortable with the topic, what I really am getting at is that how she arrived at her philosophy is irrelevant. The ideas themselves-that the natural body is good and tha[/exactlyt appearance shouldn't matter- are things a thoroughly secular person might espouse. And it's really none of anyone's business.

Exactly. Well said, Addai. :)

Keep your beliefs to yourself then.

Of course.

But, you don't see an issue with an individual being forced to suffer because of imposed beliefs?

And don't even dare say she is perfectly fine. She's not. No one human on this planet is immune to ridicule, which she most probably had to deal with her entire life. Not to even mention completely closing the doors on reason and understanding.

Well, as long as her god is happy with torment...

How is she suffering? She is clearly a tolerant and happy person who respects everyone regardless of what they are and what they believe unlike you. So please keep your intolerant beliefs to yourself. I'm Christian but I respect Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, agnostics, Baha'is etc. Why can't you atheists respect other people regardless of their faith and/or beliefs?

"Because god is fake and I hate him!!! And if he was real I'd still hate him!" - You

<_<

Regardless of what you say everyone has beliefs and a faith. If you want to believe that the universe came into being from nothing and then life spontaneously generated (an obsolete and debunked theory) then you're free to do so but don't try to force your religion down other people's throats.

Everyone has a religion. Religion isn't about belief in a god (just ask some sects of Buddhism which are atheistic or don't concern themselves with gods) but about what code you follow, what your beliefs are and how you live life. You could only truly be free from religion if you're brain dead and can't think.

"I cannot mock someone for their appearance but I will mock them for believing in a god!!!"

You should start mocking yourself for your own beliefs. Well have fun hating 90% of the human population for the rest of your life.

In conclusion I leave you with this quote from Einstein:

"I was barked at by numerous dogs who are earning their food guarding ignorance and superstition for the benefit of those who profit from it. Then there are the fanatical atheists whose intolerance is of the same kind as the intolerance of the religious fanatics and comes from the same source. They are like slaves who are still feeling the weight of their chains which they have thrown off after hard struggle. They are creatures who—in their grudge against the traditional "opium of the people"—cannot bear the music of the spheres. The Wonder of nature does not become smaller because one cannot measure it by the standards of human moral and human aims."

I think I should change the title. People might be getting the wrong idea. I don't want to start a religious discussion. I just thought this was a really awesome story.

Well, that was a humongous success. Posted Image

We all have our beliefs. Berating each other because of them will really do no good. None of us here are going to change each others minds.

Oh please. What people consider attractive is almost universal across time, continents, races, and genders. It's biologically ingrained in us. The reason women are naturally less hairy than men is speculated due to sexual selection reasons. If you don't want to make an effort to fit into the society then don't complain later when you can't get good jobs and promotions because a lot of evidence exists that appearance matters as much if not more so than competence. That's the ugly truth.

Addai, first of all I was replying to "the monty" and secondly it is dying out you'd have to be blind not to see it, not even maybe, more people renounce faith across the world it is likely their descendants will too. Now, not belief as a whole that is a ridlculous assumption but pre-conceived assumptions about the nature of life, "Everyone must live like me, or else." Will die out, hopefully anyway.

Well since you call it a ridiculous assumption I guess we're saying the same thing.  As far as wars and the like, if that's what you're getting at, the past century was the bloodiest in human history, so I wonder how people who hold to the Enlightenment belief in ultimate progress reconcile that.  Myself, I tend to see humanity as being basically the same in every age and everywhere.  But it's off topic so we should leave it.

So, you're just concerned for her future well-being.

BS.  It's the schoolyard bully attitude- anyone who looks different is asking for what they get.  I suppose you think she'd be happier if she went through painful and expensive treatments, hating herself all the while for being obviously deficient on the "sexual selection" scale.  Maybe she should just go jump off a cliff because clearly one can only contribute to society if they meet "universal" minimum beauty standards.

What? No, it's not speculated! It's due to testosterone levels and other hormones being either unique to men or in far higer concentrations in the male body. Causing hair growth or why do you think you start growing a beard when your balls drop?

Women, may develop hair in places where it should not develop, due to hormonal imbalances or higher production of testosterone than normal. Has absolutely nothing to do with sexual selection. Where the hell you got that is beyond me.

High testosterone women were likely undesirable as mates.

Hair grows naturally on women everywhere even the face but nowhere in human history have hairy women been attractive.

And hormonal imbalances cause problems in menstruation and carrying children to term. It's why the genes are not passed on. Which is the real reason, not that bull crap answer you gave in the previous post.

I think we should start treating men with hair loss like hideous monster too.
They should be cast away from society , they do not fit beauty standard.

And skinny woman should go too , they do not have enough fat in their body to carry babies...
What? Those woman are super model! Can't believe it!....that's so not natural!

I hope for men they won't ever go to the place where woman are now.
It's really really not funny , you're too fat, you're too thin, you're too hairy , you have wrinkles blablablabla .

You don't even know what you're talking about. Humans are the only primates with the least amount of hair. One of the reasons speculated is sexual selection. Don't act so condescending when you don't even know all the facts.

So ****s are just being ****s because human nature compels them.  Even if that's true, it doesn't excuse it.  They really could profit from a philosophy like this woman's.

Yep. Instead to discuss her facial hair or even worse, impose your own beauty standards on others, many could learn from her philosophy.

Stay classy, world. >_>

I could link you to a couple sites.

If I were her I'd at least shave, or try to do something about it. Citing religious reasons, well, it's kinda silly when most men won't have anything to do with her.

How did that manage to spark a debate is beyond me.

I don't find her beliefs appealing, and as someone who is not spiritual at all, I generally find religious beliefs in large part unappealing anyways. But let her live her own damn life, she is not harming anyone nor is she implying anyone has to be like her. She is acting based on her personal convictions, and kudos to her.

Ive only been in "the real world" for three years now.what cought my attention is the Word Convictions.not must follow that it seems.must people bicker and trifule that away.my belifes are not hers, but i am happy to see she kept hers and stood some ground.if that would have happen to the village i came from, that man would have been stonned to death.

its good to have faith and belife in something.wether its some christian god, native deity or Islamic god.theres nothing wrong with a religious connection and Spirituality, thats what most people are missing today i feel.lacking the fear of a "god/unknown higher power".forces people to either clean up or face an early death.sorry went from topic to small rant
