If anyone has played Chrono Cross for the PSX, I can totally see sections of the Fade that look like the Dead Sea.

i was thinking more on the lines of the time rip(or whatever its called) you know the place you meet Spriggs? boy wouldnt that be an eye sore with the upgraded graphics:D

Sounds good to me. They're not mutually exclusive at all though, the Fade should be everything but consistent looking =)

Inanimate water is cool. Mysterious structure in the background, pretty Black City-ish really, haha.

You walk on the inanimate water =)

So off-putting.

This place hasn't decided what it wants to be just yet!

What do you mean these places look... out of place? ;)

Now that is a Fade I could get to like, although those level designs still look infuriating in their own way. XD

I loved the Fade, the only problem being the darn music and the fact that everything tried to kill my character. There should've been more possession attempts. It hardly makes sense to try to kill a person in the Fade if the person ends up Tranquil -- that means demons can't possess that person.

I thought the Fade was a great concept, and I loved the way it was used in both DA:O and DA2 to show the latent fears and temptations of the companion characters.

I also loved the way the Fade shapeshifting worked in DA:O – it forced me to think tactically, and made for some great combat situations.

Ugh. The Deep Roads and The Fade were my most loathed sections of DA: O. If I were going to rebuy the game for PC, I'd immediately install that Skip The Fade mod. DA2's Fade section was short enough that I didn't mind it, though. Another short foray like that wouldn't be too bad.

I'd love it if the fade was more colorful and insane.
Seriously there are hostile demons of sloth and other fun little insanities out there. No reason for them not to live it up make the landscape into something horrifying.
Another good way would be to just go silent and have little screams here and there in a dark enviroment.

Basicly I'd love it if the fade was like Amnesia the dark decent.

Oh and there's a mod that let's you skip about 80% of the longest fade trips in DAO.

I would like the fade to feel more dangerous, In DA:O you got the feeling that it was all a dream and the powers you gained just made you stronger. Even if the fade was definably portrayed best in that game I think it still lacked some sense of hopelessness, maybe there could be more scenes like with Duncan that tried to fool you but blend it up a bit so that some offers of help is genuine while others are traps laid by demons. Maybe you'll stumble across a party member that was also trapped in the fade and can choose to kill him/her in case it is a demon. These kind of mind f*cks would give the fade the sense of danger that it lacked before.

That's a good point – I agree that the fade could be made to feel more threatening. I like your suggestion of encountering many demons who play cruel mind games with the PC.

Y'know, I love the Fade as a concept, I just don't think they've really gone as far as they should have. I think it should be more surreal, more fantastical. If it's a realm of dreams and inner demons (and virtues), I'd like to see halls that never end (pointless struggle), rooms made out of mirrors (vanity or guilt), a sky that turns black and red if you're predominantly aggressive or blue and white if you're diplomatic, I dunno. There are a lot of things they could do with it.

Edit: I also agree that the Fade should feel more dangerous. It's certainly set up that way lore-wise, and I'd love if it really gave off a sense of danger and risk with every step (after all, what's more risky than people's thoughts).
