Between Leliana and Alistair.

I know you can apparently romance both on the same playthrough and avoid any kind of 'jealousy" conversation if you play the approval game right. But I really don't wanna do that and I'd be annoyed if I somehow messed it up (which I can see happening).

So my question.

My next playthrough (which I'm starting right after this) is going to be a mage. Is there a better kind of romance with Alistair if you're a mage? Kind of like how the Fenris romance in DA2 is more unique if you're a mage?

I just figured coz he used to be a templar, there'd be that extra level of depth.

PS - I'm playing Rogue for my 1st playthrough so I figured Leliana would be a good suit (bard training). :P

The romances are the same regardless of your origin. There may be some slight variation on conversation, but the "feel" and experience are the same whether you're a warrior, human, mage, dwarf, rogue, or elf.

If you're a mage, he'll make a remark about it when you first meet. (Ask if you're a mage, say you are, and he'll get nervous about it). Otherwise, I think the lines are all technically the same. The level of depth is whatever you choose to give it. (Like, if your character being a mage and Alistair being a templar affects their relationship in your headcanon.)

Alistair has one teeny bit of an almost-flirt line for mages at Ostagar, and the Warden being a mage can change one of his banters with Wynne, very slightly. Aside from that, there aren't any real differences, and the whole mage/templar romance thing never comes up.

The Alistair romance does play out significantly differently if you are a Human Noble to any other origin. I won't say 'better' or 'worse', or give any details unless you'd like me to...?

For all other origins, it's just the odd line here and there. And origin hardly matters at all to Lelianna's romance - just an extra conversation if you are an elf, I seem to recall.

And just for my tastes, I know it's intuitively tempting but I generally don't romance people who are the same class as me; I like to take my LI's around on missions with me, and that means I'd be taking someone who may well be filling the same combat role as I am. Lelianna's usefulness is severely diminished for a rogue warden - you don't need her for locks and traps, and unless you specifically want a ranged fighter, other companions could be dealing much higher DPS. Just a thought.

Depending on what kind of rogue you're playing, you may have more content with Alistair than if you romance him as a mage. I can't say more without spoilers.

lol I play on easy because i'm playing for the story. I still use combat tactics. But this just allows me to take whoever i want with me.. Leliana, Morrigan and Alistair.

@shinobu, what u  mean what kind of rogue? does that affect dialogue?

I believe she's referring to a human rogue vs an elf or dwarven one.  She posts Posted Image'd meaning the post above her said it before she could get it onto the thread.

What Sylvanaerie said. All rogues and mages will have the same romance with Leliana regardless, but a human rogue could have different content from the others with Alistair. This may affect whether you want to romance Alistair with your rogue vs. your mage. And that's as far into spoilers territory I will go unless asked.

okay, now I'm asking, what specific content does a rogue warden have with alistair as opposed to a mage warden?

No, it's not rogue vs. mage, it's *human* rogue vs. all other types of rogues and mages.

*SPOILERS*
A human noble rogue may have the option of a fairytale ending when romancing Alistair, whereas the others, being nonhumans or mages, have fewer options. The human noble warrior can also have the fairytale outcome, so it's not limited to rogues, per se, just to *noble* humans (i.e. mages can't get it even if they're human).

oh damn... So that means it'd be better to romance Alistair as rogue instead of mage?

I'm just going to ask, what makes the difference between human rogue w/ Alistair and human mage w/ Alistair? Why can't you get the ending? lol

Don't worry about spoilers lol. But don't list unnecessary ones.

ONLY female human noble characters (warrior or rogue) get to have a specific ending with Alistair, (in regards to if you make him king). If i go into any deeper detail than this, we're getting into serious spoilerage.

Personally my favorite romance with Alistair (and all my lady wardens romance him) was on an elven mage. My most 'canon' game is Neria Surana (my avatar). It's more a roleplaying thing than an actual in game mechanic as to preference.

Your avatar looks like LotR characters... lol Boromir and that elven women...

So i'm guessing Alistair makes you queen... OH DAMMIT! I guess my second is going to be a rogue again. Mage can go third. Otherwise I'm losing a days worth of gametime.

Got it in one! :D And it's not a sure thing, but it is ONE of the possible outcomes for human nobles. Which is not to say that other origins can't have "good" outcomes, just not that specific one.

Yea, as long as the templars don't show up and demand Alistair's mage wife be sent to the circle or made tranquil. I think I can live :)

I will still have to check out the King/Queen ending though. Maybe I'll go Rogue/Mage/Rogue. Don't like playing female warriors lol.

It is.  Friend of mine does photo manips and this is one she did for my fanfiction. It's a romance with Neria and Bann Teagan as the protagonists.

Um, Jade8aby88, are you the type of person who would rather be warned not to go into Harbinger's beam in ME3, or do you prefer to experience things unspoiled your first time around -- even if it means being emotionally unprepared for the ending?

Why am I asking? Ummm.... no reason! *runs off and hides*

Oh, so I now have a feeling that the Alistair and mage warden romance ends relatively the same as the ME3 ending, that .*inhales*. cannot be good.

LOL Alistair/mage reaches it's conclusion like any of the other non-noble romances, in that there's no specific class ending for it.  IE an elf mage will have the same ending as a city elf rogue if you follow the same path to the end of the game, with a few minor origin specific details (that don't really affect the romance).

So why compare it to Mass Effect's shocking endings? lol

Alistair's romance can end quite well or... uh... badly. Not quite Catalyst bad, but that was the best analogy I could think of in terms of emotional impact. This applies to *all* origins, even the human noble one, although the human noble has the possibility of an "extra good" ending that the others don't have access to.

During my first playthrough I was so attached to Alistair that I cheated and looked up the steps to get the best outcome for my City Elf. I'm not sure I would recommend that to everyone, thus the reason I asked.
