But back to OP, I just don't think such a thing would be feasible. I don't think it make any narrative sense: why would someone become attracted to such a creature? They couldn't even be near each other without the non-darkspawn potentially contracting the Blight. And then they wouldn't be able to go out into society. And it doesn't fit into the whole Mages vs. Templars thing Bioware has going on. Etc, etc.

I'm pretty sure Broodmothers don't work that way. Growing into one is a gradual process, you don't spontaneously sprout six extra ****** immediatly after penetration. Also, assuming male darkspawn even have genitalia, how do you protect yourself during intercourse? A condom isn't gonna cut it. Wrap your whole body in a shower curtain?
No, they sprout six extra ****** after being gang raped by darkspawn, having vomit spewed down their throats, and being forced to cannibalize their friends and family alive until they swell up into the disgusting grey mass of fat and tentacles we see in the Dead Trenches.
Then of course you have the darkspawn who spread a fatal disease that destroys pretty much anything it touches by simply being in its vicinity, in addition to their knack for killing anyone who isn't a darkspawn and mutilating and consuming them afterwards.
Pretty gruesome stuff, as it was meant to be - sadly, I would not be surprised if someone here finds the prospect of these things arousing, considering some of the things people let slip when discussing their cherished romances.

In this context, I might compare the darkspawn to the Borg (in general, I know there are exceptions). The Borg don't have romances. The Borg aren't even individuals. Like the darkspawn, the Borg are part of a collective. Once separated from the collective, I imagine it's even a struggle to exist as a single person, let alone be able to comprehend any sort of relationship with other beings.
Did most of you even bother to READ the OP's post? Did you even read the title of this thread? He's not really advocating for anything, it was meant to be a "THOUGHT EXPERIMENT."The Hierophant wrote...

Words Ser Jory should have embraced. I'm still trying to figure out how he smuggled in that sword after I had unequipped all of his items before the 'rite' to sell for extra coin.

To add, just because your PC has "feelings" for, or cares about, a darkspawn follower doesn't mean that said follower feels the same way. Similar to Aveline.

Enlightened(someone find me a better word) darkspawn are free from that hive mind. I assume any darkspawn companion would be of the enlightened variety. However, even the disciples have shown difficulty understanding humans. It would be an interesting concept, but the taint would realistically remove any chance of romance that the squick factor left intact.

All true. I think there could be value, though, in a monsterous character, Awakened, and aware of their own monstrosity. How do they come to terms with it? What do they do about it? If they've truly done a 180 on the moral compas, how do they live with themselves? Or is it more nuanced than that? Maybe their not 'good', they just no longer feel the compulsion to destroy.
These are all things that could make for a great party member, but for it to work as an LI, the more I think about it, the more I feel it would have to be a tragic figure. And it would have to end on a sad note. Maybe their monstrosity overcomes them and they have to be put down. Maybe they recognise they cannot overcome their nature and decide to commit suicide... or have you kill them, like Anders did.

The darkspawn are ROTTING CORPSES. This is pretty much necrophilia. And you'd get infected just by kissing them. Why do people want to romance them?
Seriously! I'm a pretty open person, and definately encourage Bioware to try something different. But this is absolutely disgusting.

Ewww. OK. Just had to get that off my chest first. Just... eeew.
More seriously, after reading the Calling, I got the impression that the darkspawn just don't have those sorts of drives and emotions. The Architect, ostensibly the most "awakened," didn't seem to "get" that side of humanity at all. Their only drive seemed to be to find the Archdemon.
And, that's not even getting into the female mechanics side with broodmothers which just skeeves me out so much, I won't go there. :shudder:
This.
Though it would almost be worth it for all the "taint" jokes. Almost.
