The conclusions of Dragon Age 2 and Asunder seem suggest that the conflict concerning magic (i.e., mage rebellion and templar secession) is in the very least going to set the background for DA:I. With that said, when I think of the word Inquisition, I think of religious movements that the Catholic Church tried to supress (e.g., Cathars in France).

If I were to take a guess, I'd say that a part of Dragon Age: Inquisition deals with religious/political movements that try to separate themselves from the Chantry, which may not necessarily be restricted to magi and templars (*spoiler warning* there was an Orlesian rebellion described in Asunder). In addition, since this is a fantasy, there probably are more sinister forces pulling the strings from the shadows.

As for being neutral, I don't know if that option could be implemented, considering that the conflicts seem to have already started; to put an end to some of the conflict, you may have to choose a side to help.

:crying:Mage representative: "We possess the power to destroy thedas, but we desire freedom like everyone else."

:huh:Me, the player: "But what about blood magic?"

:crying:Mage representative: "Templars are to blame! When under pressure, we resort to blood magic. Not our fault."

:huh:Me, the player: "So when pressured, mages resort to blood magic? Pressure... Blood magic. right."

:police:*Throw mage in tower*:police:

Jokes aside, I agree the mage vs templar conflict is getting stale imo. Anything consisting of the Qun or what have you is always welcomed in my book.

I agree, I don't sympathize with ether side at all. I would love option to crush them both and bend them to my evil will!

looks like i'm not the only one who wants the option to completely crush both sides >:)

Recent BioWare games (TOR excepted) don't really possess an evil option.  Sure, the Warden and Hawke can be jerks, but they still save Ferelden from the Blight and Kirkwall from the Qunari.  Even the most horrible renegade Shepard still opposes the Reapers.  The dark side Imperial options in TOR have some nice cackling evil, but the last single-player game of BioWare's that had the option to crush everyone beneath your heel was Jade Empire.

I'm of two minds on this.  On one hand, more roleplay options are always good.  On the other hand, I feel like Obsidian does evil much better than BioWare.  BioWare's evil tends to be fairly predictible--you act like a jerk or thug, extort people, kill them for personal gain, etc.  Obsidian's evil is really twisted in NWN2 and KOTOR2, a kind of insidious cosmic evil that I don't think any BioWare game, even Baldur's Gate, can match.

True the Warden and Shepard can be quite the bastards at times, but in the end they both fight for the greater good.Hawke...I don't know what the hell Hawke fights for to be perfectly honest lol A completely evil character choice would be interesting.
