Q; Does SCS (Ascension) give Yaga endless troops?

You have to go find Yaga, I suspect the troops are endless as every time I dropped one while bored another spawned. I don't bother fighting them as Yaga clears off when you injure him; the two options then are to leave and return which brings him back or to hang around for 2-3 minutes and he will return (game auto-saves on return so you don't have to run around looking for him until then). I hid with my monk, the cavalier just moved around as he was pretty much safe unless mobbed and unable to move.

@Gate70, What 'Turn' level are you?

Cavalier 34 has turning level 32 (spell level -8 according to an earlier dialogue, so 26).

I did have to leave the red dragon alive, I'd get him to injured and then he'd wing buffet me away and when I got back he would be fully healed. I'm not sure how I'll fare against the dragons ahead of me. Perhaps more summons would prevent the heal, OK just one more try with the simmy as backup.

I think you're right with that view, failing that there is a convenient arch where you can stay out of buffet range and use missile weapons.

Jamis Tombelthen and his Oasis ambush is brushed off lightly.
Vongoethe mazes or imprisons a Deva but Carsomyr eventually deals with him.
Balthezar suggests finding Sendai; but a dragon hunt suits Vhorl better.
Draconis is quickly forced to show his true colours; brown (although to my non-cavalier eyes he looks more green,,,) - complementing my shadow dragon scale armour nicely (mwahaha, no hidey-holes today - I hope).

We circle each other, looking for weaknesses. His acid breath is of little concern to me but destroys three Deva's and a Berserk warrior so I decide to do the job alone. Hardiness, Aid and DUHM allow my first Carsomyr GWW  to almost kill him and the second quickly finishes the job.

A greater wyvern is easy pickings, the accompanying lizard men tougher. I kill them all in one go but am badly wounded by the time they are defeated.

A second group of lizard men force me to retreat (these SCS lizard men shouldn't be under-estimated), but after using a Deva to heal up I defeat them at my second visit and then prepare for Anadramatis (Roranch, cloak of Displacement). He is immune to Carsomyr and after a few hits I decide it is best to stand away from him and switch to AoU/DoE to heal. Anadramatis runs through a sequence of offensive/defensive spells and a few breath attacks too. The dragon is burning through buffs so I start my lazy preparation (switch to Carsomyr).

I summon a Deva to heal me thrice, then get it to attack with a Globe of Blades as I attack too. A stoneskin or two later I land a blow so add a GWW and the dragon yields (but the continued GWW sees an auto-kill to get both the scales and amulet). Oops

Two pit fiends and four cornugons block my exit. 3xGWW removes them.

Pile the dragons high!
Two black dragons are easily dismantled thanks to the amulet proffered by Anadramatis which bestows immunity to wing buffet. A green dragon (Ithy'nassendra) is foolish enough to allow me to switch armour (to shadow dragon scale). I return with a Deva but without healing. I almost kill the dragon but have to move back and glug an extra healing potion before circling for a gap. 110hp is enough to return and slug it out.
Posted Image

Carnifex is also over-confident; I switch to red dragon scale plus a ring of fire control then summon a second Deva. PfMW is used so I circle the huge dragon after the Deva is chunked and although I have another five Deva's on call I decide to keep them in reserve. Once I judge four rounds to have passed a sequence of Carsomyr hits removes further buffs. Our series of circles and attacks result in a badly injured dragon while my health remains around 30-50%.

PfMW is used again so I time another 4 round circuit of the area while allowing the fiery dragon breath to soothe my wounds (127% resistance). With 130-140hp I move in and after confirming PfMW is inactive I use a GWW to add to the pile.

Aiming to deal with Abazigal/Tamah without the hidey-hole (& a good time to say I am expecting a rougher ride against Improved Sendai than with the monk run).

The next area is full of floating skulls and beholders. One Tyrant Golem is left as I switch to the skulls then summon a Deva. Then Wave through fire elementals and an efreeti, turn skeleton warriors and use Carsomyr against earth elementals and the golem. Bondari is freed and completes his task at the second attempt!

I can smell wyverns so prepare a suitable defence. Yellow dragon armour, boots of avoidance, AoU / Shield of the Order, Cloak of the Sewers and PfE. After a minute or so Quenash is dead, Shelligh badly injured and Rance injured while I am at 162/176hp. Shelligh falls to (un)friendly fire, Rance survives perhaps a minute then Rill another minute or two before being vorpalled.

I change gear (boots of speed, helm of defence, cloak of reflection) and add the white dragon scale. Carsomyr is at the ready but first I intend to Wave the Salamanders. With them quickly zapped Abazigal is next. He casts Hardiness so I circle him while thinking. He adds a WW so I DoE/Order in case he catches me with a passing blow while we continue our deadly dance. A second WW, 2 GWW's and 5 Kai's later I decide it is my turn to lead. His attack will beat my shield though so I offhand the DoE instead and start with the FoA.

I run after each hit, determined to wear him down while keeping my best for later. Despite my single flail proficiency I am often able to run before he can hit me. He uses a massively extended reach to hit me as he transforms into his true fom. As I slide towards Tamah I equip Carsomyr and cast Hardiness (talk about optimising game-time). I swipe her as I pass and cast AoF as I regain my feet. A GWW sees the three of us trade blows, and Tamah fails to survive.

I've been badly mauled but with GWW still active and 75% damage resistance (edit, just checked screenshot and no damage resistance left at that point....oops) I decide to finish it on big blue only to find he has PfMW active. Worse, both he and his Mordy hit me (12/162hp left) so I circle away and the skinflint in me only allows an EXTRA healing potion. Mistake - a shockwave sends me to the floor and I am running with 15hp left. I glug a superior potion and switch to AoU/DoE.

The Mordy blocks Abazigal so I summon a Deva. After a minute or so the Deva is dead and I have been hit by chaos so gawp at the floor while he attacks. A few hits more and I'm holding up my hand for a rematch. I warm up after a RELOAD with the Waved salamanders. This time Tamah catches me napping twice before I can kill her. RELOAD

Lucky number 3? A skeleton warrior briefly distracts Abazigal but I only need half a GWW to have Tamah killed as he arrives. I try to fight but his speed, PfMW and range of attacks are too much. I retreat into the hidey-hole with about 70hp remaining, venturing out a couple of times until his PfMW is de-activated. I retreat a final time to add Hardiness, AoF and DUHM. 2 GWW's and a WW are used then I hit a couple more times to drop him.
Posted Image

(I thought a cavalier could stay in the room with him but with PfMW active he's fast and the variety of spells, special abilities (tailslap, earthquake) and reach he is very difficult to counter. If I had more patience I could have tried oils of speed or even sanctuary although I suspect the latter would be removed in short order.

New items: FoA +5, Big Metal Unit, K'logarath, Enkidu's Plate, Gargoyle Boots and a rod of reversal. Something for every occasion, hopefully.

A Hive Mother mazes me as I approach the enclave where Sendai is located. RELOAD. Summons positioned better to allow a Carsomyr GWW to be used 2nd time around.

Sendai's Enclave
The Southern Tunnel is cleared. No slavemaster in the Northern Tunnel (remember to do Northern first in future).
Odamaron and an apprentice remain; a second apprentice and two skeleton warriors were "turned" into chunks.
After a host of spells their PfMW's are exhausted and Carsomyr accounts for both lich and apprentice.
Two beholders and a group of drow have arrived outside (the only thing on their side is excessive game lag).

New items. Carsomyr +6, Spectral Brand +5, improved Gram the Sword of Grief.

Ogremoch stoneskins as quick as Carsomyr GWW removes them (dispel is ineffective). Switch approach mid battle.
FoA/Belm, 1 GWW and 5 Improved Hastes are too much for him - my buffs remain intact.

Diaytha foolishly allows a vampire and cambion outside to play with my BMU and Carsomyr.
I switch to full plate to remove the remaining beholder then Diaytha is de-globed and eliminated.
Captain Egeisseg is slow to turn hostile so I am back in the BMU before he attacks.
Another full plate to BMU change is complemented by use of the Psion's Blade for a horde of illithid.
The BMU arm reach means I can use two drow as a buffer. Mythakil and his illithid are removed safely as a result.
I manage to switch from full plate armour to the BMU before Sendai registers my entry. (n.b. Cloak of Mirroring active all the time, animation sometimes vanishes depending what is happening).

The first Sendai panics from Carsomyr blows, and is blocked by drow. With her down I kill a couple of drow but get jostled out of place (CHARNAME leaps about a bit with the BMU on). I turn some undead to allow another Sendai to move towards me.
Posted Image

I'm jostled onto a platform as time stop activates (each pendulum swing is taking 15 seconds so this is SLOW). I glug an extra healer and reach over the drow to drop another Sendai.
Posted Image

I am malisoned so fire a Carsomyr dispel to remove it, and also to de-buff everybody else. I've dropped an aerial servant so relax with another turning - four skeleton warriors collapse but I am jostled straight through the remaining drow into the centre of the room.

This isn't what I planned but I may as well tap a Sendai with Carsomyr to remove her fireshields. She runs off so I hit another - she glugs a potion of invisibility so I move to an archer Sendai. I can't reach her but yet another Sendai GWW's so I GWW back and eliminate her before switching to an aerial servant.
Posted Image

A double Sendai time stop is next, then another time stop. I take another malison as poison Sendai is chunked. I glug an extra healer and remove another two drow so a badly wounded aerial servant can be drawn into range. Then another four drow as the Mordy swords expire.
Posted Image

Just me and four of Sendai now. I move away and a fifth Sendai is shown together with a drow. This Sendai casts Absolute Immunity but one swing of Carsomyr removes that effect before I swat the drow. Archer Sendai has moved to the centre of the room but teleports away after a hit or two. I chase one Sendai after another, glugging a healing potion at one point. Another one is down.
Posted Image

Then another, only two left now.
Posted Image

One - I can't reach her though. Time to play. The big metal rod does 2 damage, K'logarath 20 + 6 + unconscious. Ouch (what a weapon). I summon a Deva and throw the axe again. She saves this time but is panic stricken, blundering into my summons.
Posted Image

The real Sendai re-appears. I greet her with K'logarath, forcing a host of contingencies so cast a Carsomyr dispel to remove them (fails but removes my malison so not wasted). My Deva stuns her fallen Deva and I help kill it off as she fails to malison me again. I've cast a death ward and add spell turning as a fallen planetar attacks me. I kill that off in no time and summon another Deva to replace the one that Sendai has just imploded.

My spell turning is removed so I grab a ring and apply a minor turning only to see my buffs removed twice more. I try a ranged dispel then summon a replacement skeleton warrior and then another followed by a berserk warrior. PfMW has finally worn off so I hit with Carsomyr then add a GWW. My final hit of the GWW is enough to end the fight.
Posted Image

Back at the Pocket Plane I remove the Slayer and the favoured of Cyric.

(Against my expectations Vhorl did better against Sendai than Abazigal. Was also a cleaner battle than with my monk - in control all the time, didn't get implosion/harm, never got below 100hp, only used 3-4 HLA's and perhaps 5 potions. Would have been much tougher without the big metal unit).

Balthezar decides to work with me - the last thing I need is a monk on my heels (although from memory I don't think I ever managed to keep him alive in the final battles).

First though, the Ravager. A globed Deva and three skeleton warriors keep him occupied. I require 3xGWW, WW and 3xImproved Haste to continually disrupt the Ravager summoning and finish the job.
Posted Image

The reward for this is 25% resistance to physical damage. I rest for a final time, throw about 600 potions into a bag of holding (I'm not joking, 100 superior, 250 extra and various others). I glug 5-6 more for good measure and step out into the Throne.

I hit Melissan twice before she can open her mouth and try to convince Balthezar to stand to the right of me. He moves back as Irenicus, Imoen the Slayer, Bodhi and a fallen solar arrive - my main job here is to stop Balthezar from being level-drained or vorpalled. I order him to the right and he lunar stances as I hit Bodhi. She transforms into gas after two hits so I switch to the solar as Irenicus casts time stop.

Balthezar is still active so I use my immense control (a minature giant space mouse) to divert him to the solar. He proves to be irritatingly uncontrollable (worse than a planetar when a party member is injured).

A second time stop catches us both out so we wait patiently. I manage to divide Bodhi and Balthezar twice when I see him level drained but my patience with the monk is running out. A single Ravager +6 GWW drops the fallen solar and Irenicus. Bodhi survives two more transformations before my second Deva kills her.
Posted Image

I dig out Usuno's Blade and restore Balthezar - at the cost of being fatigued. The Deva casts 3 cure critical wounds and Balthezar is sort of ready for the next encounter. I've used far more of my abilities than I wanted to keep him alive though.

EDIT: After clearing the three pools and defeating the fallen solar + Illasera I realised Sarevok and Gromnir haven't turned up. First thought was difficulty level, checked the slider and the whole of ToB must have been on EASY as the last time I fiddled with it was when I gave up on the monk run. So Vhorl is retiring. Tempted to delete/empty all my posts here too.

I had another go at the red on my way out, this time with the simmy from Vhailor's helm as backup. The fight was so trivial that when I walked over a maze trap afterwards and had to reload, I just rolled my eyes and redid it.

Yaga's mum was also a non-event, I think this character is hitting his stride. I rested up, then sprinted through Yaga's troops and laid a GWW on him. He left, and I made my first mistake. I killed all the fire giants, when what I should have been doing was hoarded them like gold, because they do blunt damage, which heals me when I'm running hardiness and wearing Rornach's helm. Anyway, it didn't matter.

I had two reloads here, the first time I got mobbed while trying to put the boot in on the lute thief. The second was an unfortunate combination of being followed by the lute mage's pit fiend & 2 glabrezus, and catching a doom from the lute cleric, which made me fail my save against fear. Finally, I managed to avoid the lute cleric until the demons unsummoned, and killed the lute fighter & thief into the bargain. I finished off the cleric, then alternated between the lute mage and Yaga, depending on the mages PFMW, Yaga's fire shield, and my hit points. Yaga was healing me with his hammer, but the fire shield made GWW unatractive. Finally they both fell, which was good because I had run out of hardinesses. On the other hand I was never in danger here, as long as I could keep running, and didn't lose control due to fear. I didn't even use my new best friend Vhailor.

I rested, then completed the pocket plane challenge with one reload, can't remember how I died. I got Regeneration as my challenge ability.I finished the oasis without resting, and got to Amkethran. I settled in, then headed back to watcher's keep.

I knew this wasn't going to be pretty, because the Tactics poison encounter was due. As I arrived, I got abducted into a small area with 5 pretty nasty opponents. No buffing was possible because it was over a day's travelling to the keep, so I'd typically run left before they all go hostile so I don't have to fight all 5, then use a scroll of poison resistance, then a hardiness, then kill the spear dude, then get level drained and die. I placed Yaga's hammer of disruption off for level drain protection, and tried my new regeneration, but still died. Ditto with a simmy to help. Finally I read the encounter spoilers, and there turns out to be a really easy way to split this group. I did this, and finished it pretty easily. Tactics enemies are often brutal, but with some fatal flaw that makes them suddenly trivial. They also tend to drop ludicrously overpowered weapons, but I am managing to resist using the poison throwiing spear.

Well the next enemy is also from Tactics, and I'm expecting a drubbing. It's the yellow dragon from the ritual, with that sweet barbarian armour drop. I cannot resist using it I think. After that I can have another go at the chromatic demon, this time with the appropriate use of resistance scrolls.

Just bump it up to core and do the final fight. If you have a save from before Irenecus you could redo those too, but the final is what we're here for. Just try.

Good progress there. With 25% physical resistance from the pools your barbarian should be able to do well in the final encounter. What is your plan with Balthezar?

10 minutes after posting I tried the final battle on core as I was there. Summary & thoughts below.

The Fallen Deva went first.
Then Balthezar was killed (having 2 characters active in time stops would have been fun).
Illasera next - about an hour whittling away. Got bored & Reflexed her over several rounds.
Gromnir.
Abazigal.
Sendai (would have been handy to kill her after Illasera so buffs weren't dispelled.
Half way through Yaga Shura and the game crashed.

2-3 hours to get to that point, will give it another go. A lot of time switching weapons;
- Carsomyr after Focus & before time stop.
- AoU/DoE when running.
- FoA/Belm in a time stop.

My Linux setup is keeping sound active and I successfully Focus'd each Praeses timestop.
Sendai timestopped me twice though, no real danger without Melissan.
The approach Alesia has demonstrated here works well without Balthezar
Focus timestops are great; Melissan can be avoided or ignored and free hits on the others.
My Deva's are not a lot of use as Melissan kills them far too quickly.

1st CORE attempt at final battle crashed with Yaga-Shura and Melissan remaining (mentioned above). At least 2.5 hours.

2nd CORE battle saw Melissan alone. At badly wounded she squeezed out a time stop about half a second before Focus became effective. About 1.5 hours.

3rd CORE below. About 1.5 hours again.

Fallen Deva.
Posted Image

Illasera.
Posted Image

Killing Illasera in a time stop seemed like a good idea. The downside is it gave Melissan a free timestop immediately after which I can't block. She fails to reach me and Balthazar wastes his effort on Yaga Shura.
Posted Image

Gromnir. He either took a long time to notice his death or perhaps an Unleash area effect accounted for him.
Posted Image

Balthezar is stunned/held/incapacitated. I cast a Carsomyr dispel (just passing Melissan in screenshot) but she's had enough of the meddling monk and her spell hits first.
Posted Image

I think Sendai was next (looks like Abazigal is still there).
Posted Image

Then Abazigal. Either another slow learner or the Unleash hit him too (I was in the middle of them but ran).
Posted Image

Yaga Shura and Melissan block me. I "escape" after being thrown into a poolside ring by Unleash, only to be blocked again and it is doubtful I will survive. Melissan adds a GWW - I'm up to my neck but Yaga expires first and I'm running back to the main ring even before he starts to topple over.
Posted Image

Melissan catches me in another timestop (my fault, had chosen to glug a potion). I survive with 34hp thanks to Hardiness, AoU and DoE. Once I've healed I use Hardiness and AoF to melee her with Carsomyr. I use a Focus only to discover she's cast something different and follows it with another time stop. I add another Hardiness but manage to last the entire time stop with the earlier Focus. As it expires Melissan follows suit and the Solar calls a halt to proceedings.

I choose to follow my destiny, Balthezar can look after everything else.
Posted Image

There were a couple of points where I suddenly healed (usually when switching weapons and glugging a superior potion at the same time and always after killing one of the 5. Don't know if this is intentional or a quirk). Also the AoU added a few HP whenever enabled so I tried to minimise switches with it or delay it by a couple of rounds so it added what I would have obtained with it equipped.

@Gate Excellent, nice work.

I've given up on the yellow dragon, there's no way I'm beating that. Probably 5 deaths trying. So, on to the chromatic demon. This went much better, I got it to very injured once, but haven't beaten it yet. 2 deaths so far.

@The Potty 1. What was your approach against the yellow dragon. Have you tried hugging the east wall with ranged weapons.

@ussnorway. SCS runs very slowly on my laptop at certain points. At least 50% of the time spent is due to this and the pause/unpause feels like I'm in multiplayer.

I've had a couple of BG1 deaths trying to get a trilogy monk here, so tried Veyal again last night and failed miserably. Then decided to see how Vhorl would fare on insane (third pool and final encounter). First attempt below. Axe of Unyielding not allowed as I don't want to benefit from the extra HP it adds each time.

Balthezar survived the third pool but was quickly mangled against the 5. Vhorl used the Defender of Easthaven mainhand & whenever Illasera scored a hit he quickly raised the Reflection shield. (she did dispel buffs once though). Vhorl decided to remove the fallen deva first as it is the easiest target and doesn't activate Melissan.
Posted Image

Illasera took a hit or two but killed herself, Vhorl immediately casts Focus and Melissan arrives to add a timestop.
Posted Image

The plan would be to start glugging potion buffs; but first the time stop.

Vhorl starts on a frozen Abazigal with Carsomyr until Melissan teleports in with GWW so a run aound the ring becomes a better idea. Vhorl completes a time stop circuit, dispelling frozen Sendai and frozen Gromnir before trying a Control on one of the two gated fallen solars.

Bad idea - Vhorl and the solar are rooted to the spot and everybody converges to finish a helpless Vhorl. I can't see a scenario where Control would be a good idea - am I missing something?

This challenge seems to be quietly dying, and I'm not active enough to keep it alive, but here's my progress anyway.

I took out the chromatic demon relatively easily after using the green elemental scrolls, still took a couple of tries, but all attempts went way better.

Next, the demon level. One or other mod randomised where each exit took you, so I had to wander around the maze for longer than usual. I ran into Aesgareth pretty early, and gambled for the sword & deck, but my first 2 draws were rubbish, so I killed him. Felt a bit bad, particularly after looting a robe of the good archmagi, but I am playing chaotic, and you need to kill him to get to the next level. At this point I was at level 39, and expecting to get capped at level 40, so I wasn't interested in drawing 'Throne'. In the end I drew Key, Moon, and some other thing.

I killed Tahazzar & Ka'Rashur, in the course of which I reached level 41. Hm. Must have removed the level cap. So on the one hand, I'm yet again entering a ludicrously overpowered character into solo Ascension. On the other hand, this probably means I may actually succeed.

Anyway, I'm currently on level 4, about to meet Rock.

TUd7: Semi Retired

Somehow the fates slipped up and gave me a day off so this is how I spent my vacation... remember when we used to go out to the movies on a weekend{?}... The sad truth.

One on one: Gaint Vs Form;

Posted Image  Posted Image  Posted Image

Plan A, fight him in the corner as a spider... the poison locks him down but I can’t hit him in this form because the Cleric keeps dropping ‘Doom’ on me. Death#5.

Posted Image  Posted Image

Plan B, fight him in the corner as a rock... the extra TACH0 allows me to hit him once again but I still died because the Cleric dispels my buffs and keeps the pressure up with elemental peons.  If I stop attacking Yagga in order to deal with them then he buggs out... my kingdom for a Blade tank! Death#6&7.

I’m just not designed to do this mucho stuff so I legged it back to the forest and had a long chat with the wood pixies about it...

Casta: “ How can I fight him when he is so big?”

The grand foo-bar of Mir forrest... aka PUK: “Well you can {Fight like a man} if you want to but I prefer to fight like a Druid;  Summon friends to distract and whittle him down that’s what you should be doing.”

Posted Image  Posted Image

Plan C, Casta returned to fight him before the bridge as a human but used the “Vhailor's Helm” to copy herself and then had the copy mind control one of the Leftenant’s with the “Mind Control Circlet” from The Underdark... The extra spells/ adds allows her to concentrate on attacking Yagga whilst his army gets caught wrong footed at his camp and several ‘Web’ spells help to keep them out of it.

Posted Image  Posted Image

Tip; He is immune (or very nearly) to most damage & seems very buggy but electrical range damaging spells are your best bet... BTW casting ‘Farsight’ gives your ‘Call Lightning’ a longer range.

In a normal game he should be open to characters dealing poison, ice or wisdom damage as well, perhaps the big Slayer can make some progress against him but I’m not a solo player so I’m going to retire Casta here for a bit due to losing interest and go back to the Bard... Good luck to those still going!

The watcher's keep level 4 demi-lich gave me some problems, it gates in two balors which severely cramped my style, and I did one reload because the balor's flame barrier killed the lich. NOT YOURS, MY XP! Finally the balor got me cornered where the lich couldn't see me, so I just kept healing until they unsummoned, then healed up, cast rage, and mowed down the demi-lich easily. Saladrex also gave me a reload, can't remember why. Improved Abazigal is going to be murderous.

On to level 5 with my improved stats and packing storm star. The green dragon was pretty hectic, as it can follow you up the stairs. I had to dig out the rod of resurrection for some heals, first time doing that. I've also cleared out all but the last blue globe fight without a single reload, the pair of liches were easy enough, and even the hive mother, elder orb, & death tyrant were OK once I separated them. So on to the final seal fights next.

The first seal fight was a doddle, the second gave me some trouble. As background, there were a pair of fire giants in the eternal warrior room, which I left alive so their blunt damage could heal me in the seal fights.

Anyway, the second seal fight has some pretty concentrated fire damage, and at one point I was down to 10 HP, so I ran to my giants for some tough love. Queue hand to dust cutscene. Hm. I looked closer at my giants. Damn, axes. So I reloaded, killed them, and retried the second seal. Still pretty brutal, but I have 249 HP without raging, 260 something enraged, so I can blast through most stuff. The final seal beckons.

I'm not sure whether to fight Demogorgon or not. In terms of roleplay it makes much more sense to lock it up without fighting, but this is one of the top fights in the game, and probably a requirement of any Ascension challenge, so I suppose I'll give it a go.

8-bit's retiring, my install seems to bomb out on cutscenes. The first one was when you click the final seal, the cutscene triggers, and I eventually had to Alt-F4 out. No worries, I left the keep and went to find Sendai. Same thing happened again, so I'm giving up :/

a bit of a long shot but would clearing the cache/temp folders help?

Tried that already, no dice. Funny though, I loaded another save from SoA, did the chapter 2-3 transition, and that cutscene worked fine.

On the other hand, it's probably amazing my install works at all, because I installed BG2 in linux using wine, modded it heavily, fired it up, and found it REALLY slow, so I manually deleted TobEx, which had no effect, so I installed virtualbox and created a windows xp virtual machine, I then installed BG2 there, and copied over the override folder from linux. Still with TobEx hosed, I suppose I could try installing it again ... hm.
