Nice work Gate!

I'll have some comments on your Ravager/Slayer post later.

Nice going, I see you collected more of an entourage than my monk did - only Yaga Shura would follow him when hidden so made it easier for me.

Yaga is the only one who detects the invisibile via script in my install as well. Abigail could have ignored the Lieutenants and used invisibility to seperate him, but I'm unfond of that method: I try to avoid it whenever possible. In this case, killing the Lieutenants seemed perfectly feasible and potentially fun

I'd assumed your fire/blunt resistances would allow you to melee him
regardless of the rest so interesting to see a different strategy
used.

The problem is Abigail's slashing and piercing resistances aren't nearly as impressive. In an extended fight with Yaga the Thief and Fighter could cause problem for her. It seemed safer to stay on the move untill they were killed, and then settle in for the long fight.

As for the Energy Blades, Storm of Vengence, and Smites before the melee, that was all just for kicks. :)

Well done Gate - accumulating knowledge is always worthwhile, though sometimes a rather painful process!

Nice going. All your characters seem to have a Potion of Fire Breath handy when they need it. Do you know how many there are in total? Aside from the one in Irenicus' Dungeon and buying some from (I think) Roger are there others?

Off to my handy merchant list!

Ribald - 2
Roger the Fence - 3
Ust Natha Potion Vendor - 3

There's the one in Chez Jon, and the only other regular supply of them is for Mages with the stronghold. The potion maker guy has that potion on his list of possibles.

Anything above that is a random drop. I have seen them pop up rarely, but it barely ever happens.

I step outside after a rest, run around in fear from two Pit Fiend and four Cornugons then recover to GWW one before being held for a poor Reload41. The next time I venture outside sees Hardiness and Improved Invisibility already active to GWW the Pit Fiends then the Cornugons. I swim through some pools to deal with a cluster of Kuo-toa before a tortured and mortally wounded monk tells me very little. I guess his companions have all been fed to the lizardmen then. I return to Cespenar and get Hindo's Doom upgraded. 100% Magic resistance is better than 93% and immunity to death magic could be a life saver too. An Olhydra has a blue fireshield active and I am briefly stunned before killing it. Both remaining pools require rope so I must return to Amkethran.

I soon have rope for a bargain price (a cheap laugh as it turns out) but decide to stock up on supplies. The territory once held by Draconis is now occupied by Olinissimous and Zirimanat'ryl, black dragons. I have cut-scene walked to Olinissimous and Zirimanat'rly cannot see me as I quickly retreat. "O" follows me so I cast Hardiness, and moments later apply a Hindo GWW. I've ignored the amulet resisting Wing Buffet as 100% Magic Resistance seems more important. 5 GWW's are enough to kill the dragon then I pocket plane rest (forgot to screen-shot this one).

"Z" casts Dragon Fear and Haste then Remove Magic (perhaps a good time to switch amulets but no need, I hope). A GWW removes stoneskins the "Max Power" way (the wrong way, only faster), and two would have done except a last moment wing buffet sees GWW3 expire so GWW4 is required (thought I had a screenshot but it didn't work).

The game auto-saves as Ithy'nassendra the green dragon lands with the comment that from 1000 feet up it was obvious those overgrown crocodiles (black dragons) were making a mess of things. Carnifex the red dragon had landed behind me but gamely waits on a nearby crag to avoid the green dragon poison clouds. They obviously don't know much about humans and that as a monk I am immune to poison. Ithy requests assistance before we start but Carnifex is as arrogant as they come and tells him to deal with this paltry mammal.

My second attack is buffeted away mid GWW as Ithy surveys collapsed stoneskins and injuries caused by Hindo's Doom. I return as my GWW expires so decide to see how fast green dragons can run. A slow start then a sudden increase, what with casting Righteous Magic, Defensive Harmony, Haste, Stoneskin, Summon Insects and a second Defensive Harmony. We lap the area several times (with the insects unable to catch me) but this is tedious so I try the hidey-hole. It works reasonably (very) well although I take a Wing Buffet and Holy Blight. I've healed up with Hardiness active so move out and cast a GWW. I take heavy damage so run and glug two potions before trying another GWW. I'm buffeted away so turn to run (and the game crashes, back to the green dragon auto-save).

This time Ithy can taste the Ravager, but my ensuing lack of poison resistance sees a huge green smokeball arrive (didn't happen last time so assume Ithy spotted the resistance and didn't bother, or I was running too much). I've used a WW and am saving the GWW's for Carnifex but one of us is almost dead.
Posted Image

A timely casting of PfMW means I cannot wait 4 rounds so I shift form and retreat to the hidey-hole. Lowering my magic resistance to become immune to wing buffets seems a good idea too.
Posted Image

Melf's Acid Arrows, Wing Buffet, Stoneskin then a series of MAA's and MM's cause minorinjuries before I realise none of my three weapon slots are activated following my transformation. Hindo's Doom tops up magic resistance from 83 to 93%. I hear various buffs expiring so switch to sling for a bullet then back to sword every round or so. I finally hear another buff expire and guess it is stoneskin. I switch to fists and aim without any buffs. It hits, as does a second.
Posted Image

I grab his loot and hide (the game auto-saves and enters a cut-scene from which it doesn't exit - hiding near this pillar appears to break the scene so I need to reload). I won't count that as Veyal was ready to continue. Even with Veyal out from the pillar though the cut-scene continues unabated, so I may have to go back to an earlier save and kill the black dragons again. Looking at the screenshots I now wonder if the problem was due to me looting Ithy before Carnifax scripted.

Yes, looks like I have an issue of some kind. Not fatal fortunately.

The previous savegame already has "O" dead so I just need to face "Z". I'm hit by dragon fear and almost die - recovering with 32hp but my meanderings have shown me something. I move to the west side of the area and confirm more hidey-holes where "Z" cannot see me. Fantastic (picture edited while regenerating).
Posted Image

I try an unbuffed attack then retreat. My second attack sees me quickly injured and I could wait to regenerate or I could speed things up. A minute or so later the Ravager has claimed another victim and started on Ithy. After being badly wounded Ithy has had enough, casting heal, stoneskin and haste. I'm towards the end of my Ravaging so transform back to hide. This time Carnifex has arrived (that's better - and worse, later I realise there should have been some dialogue) so I have two dragons to play with. It will be interesting to see if my hidey-holes work against them both. I move slightly and on the third or fourth sidestep they lose sight of me (game saved). I try a GWW on Carnifex and retreat badly injured, then try moving slightly to get a sling view. A fireball while critically wounded seals Reload42.

I move up a pillar, and Ithy conveniently stands in view so I start to alternate sling attacks and sword defence. Carnifex had a brief view and tried to lower my fire resistance (saved). I'm fatigued (checked later, Ravager fatigues the character, didn't notice that earlier) and my bullets are terribly aimed so I run back to a hidden point and pocket plane rest. I summon the Spectral Blade and Hardiness GWW Ithy with Spectral Brand - cold damage working nicely. After two GWW's Ithy heals but a third GWW has added another 10 hits. PfMW triggers and as I step back I notice Ithy is uninjured (the heal appears to have been cast before the GWW and activated after). I decide to Ravage, but I am unable to reach Ithy (too big for the gap) and am hemmed in by Carnifex. Fine, the other target then.

Carnifex is badly injured but stoneskins and dispels (my hp drop from 300 to 152 this time and THACO dropped again - grr). I add a GWW and Carnifex has to stoneskin again. I respond with another two GWW's and we're finally hitting each other. I am at 105hp and Carnifex is almost dead. Two more hits are required, then I spend 3 minutes sketching the dead dragon.
Posted Image

I can move out to see Ithy, taking 10 self-damage and 43 poison. I glug a superior healing and attack again. Then I retreat to return to human form and hide as Ithy stoneskins (game saved) meaning I'm fatigued again. With the red dragon down I rummage around for the ring of anti-venom taken from Vongoethe - but no I must have sold it just before this encounter. Oh well, no great shakes. My drawing time has allowed another Ravager change. Not even PfMW is good enough this time.
Posted Image

I didn't expect this though - Carnifex has returned from the dead (screams bug). PfMW is used so I return to human form and draw another picture for 3 minutes.
Posted Image

I've killed you once, so I'll kill you again. First though I check for another PfMW, then Hardiness Ravager. Dispel again gimps hit points and THACO (grrr) but I've got 2 GWW's in to injure Carnifex. Greater Malison has mullered my saving throws (+9 for breath so 90% fire resistance is nice). I'm out of control for a time, recovering with 130/152hp. Carnifex is badly injured but has stoneskinned so I GWW again. I lose control again, recovering at 94/152hp. Carnifex is still badly injured having just lost the stoneskins. Another GWW forces PfMW I need to transform again while sketching this moment.
Posted Image

I run, the transformation healing me from 8hp as Carnifex stoneskins again. I have no Hardinesses left but only need two hits from my next GWW. Having already died once he/she takes the biscuit (custard cream) and dies twice more. Showoff.
Posted Image

I have to wait several rounds to regain control and resume human form. I expect it is a slight bug in Carnifex appearing without dialogue, getting killed then appearing with dialogue when Ithy is killed. Having not done this before I didn't know what to expect but assume the first instance shouldn't have arrived.

Congrats Gate!

Btw. What are your thoughts on the balancing of the Ravager form?

Btw II. Abigail has arrived at Sendai's Enclave. She''l likely face off with her today or tomorrow.

It's the first issue I've noticed. I have a save-game at the point Draconis has transformed and could run through it with a revision if it helps.

Alesia_BH wrote...

It is the ultimate Bhaal ability and inherently un-balanced IMO. It got through a couple of fights (Draconis, Demogorgon) that I may not have been able to do otherwise and the Carnifex party was a lot quicker/easier than Veyal as-equipped would have managed. Multiple uses per day seemed excessive at first but waiting 2-3 minutes in a battle to use it again is a reasonable discouragement to solely rely on it ( and meanwhile you are fatigued).

The physical presence and magical resistance is neatly countered by limited duration and limited control. There are risks (Reload38 saw Dragon Fear so spells and effects can still be problematic) and PfMW is a good foil. I couldn't Ravager Andramatis where Veyal eventually got a consistent solution.

I'd probably save it for troublesome enemies (dragons for Veyal) but as this is my first real use I may abuse it a bit more (not that much is left now except for the hardest encounters).

Also, the above is for solo play - I can't see it being an option with a party.

Final point, the dispel/remove glitch is irritating, I don't know if this is the same as other forms (druid forms, shapeshifter, mage spells etc.)  or specific to the Slayer/Ravager.

Makes sense.

Magically created weapons are always dispelled. And if form attributes are implemented through the weapon, they will be dispelled too. It's annoying.

David's shapechange tokens do a nice job of solving that problem in the Druid case. Presumably the same could be done for the Slayer and Ravager forms.

Anyhoo. Best of luck against Abazigal and Tamah!

Is the damage taken by staying in Ravager form Magical Damage (i.e. same as Magic Missile / ADHW etc)? It is for the Slayer change, meaning PfME can extend your transformation a little, although there is still an unavoidable instant-kill effect at the end.

I don't know, can't test that with a monk but it's a good question. Contingency or spell sequencer PfMW for example. I did observe that the sound happened each round even if you switched back.

I purchase the poison ring from the Amkethran temple as a precaution, and try to make a good start against various skulls but take an early reload43 after killing a Death Tyrant. I may have to do this area in small bursts. My first visit sees one Death Tyrant GWW'd and a retreat from a second. On my second visit it is the Ravager against a Death Tyrant and three Tyrant Golems. As usual I take a dispel and respond with a GWW.
Posted Image

I drop the Death Tyrant and one Golem but mis-time my transformation by a second or so (glugged a potion earlier so aura'd) for reload44. The Death Tyrant chases me this time so I Hindo GWW it. I send the Spectral Blade, Berserk Warrior and Kitthix then follow with a DUHM GWW, but the Tyrant Golems don't cause me injury with their rays so I can take the battle to them instead. One Tyrant Golem is down but two Earth Elementals have arrived. After my next GWW I use a ring to charm one of the Earth Elementals and order it to attack the third Tyrant Golem. I've killed the second Tyrant Golem so help with the third. My Earth Elemental is overwhelmed and more are arriving by the second but I'm in good shape and think I can kill the third Tyrant Golem.
Posted Image

With the Tyrants down I kill a nearby sentinel to stop the summoning and switch to fists for the dozen or so Elementals as I'm out of GWW's (first time that has happened for several sessions). A Quivering Palm gets two Earth Elementals then two Stunning Blows clear the rest. Lycanth the Mad greets my return from a plane-rest and I sub-contract a job to Bondari to avoid some Elder Orbs. Fll'Yissetat the dragon is de-geased and stomps off before turning into human form and disappearing. I rest and change a few items before entering the next area.

This lot look like werewyverns so I switch to Spectral Brand. Quenash, Shelligh, Rod of Resurrection, Rill, two superior potions and finally Rance. Almost died twice and risked a GWW to kill Rill meaning 6 seconds at near death which felt very dangerous.

Four wyverns are dead but I expect worse to come. I could buff but no doubt whatever I do will be de-buffed. I take what precautions I can (game saved) then try a pocket-plane. It works so I rest before returning. Two frost salamanders later I plane-rest again. Two more and another plane-rest, then I almost complete my shadowy circuit of the area before Abazigal threatens me. I taunt him and move away as he casts Hardiness (another save game, convenient). He seems immune to my +2 bullets but a +3 hits. I try anothe +2 and it hits too so continue with them, using my speed and stealth to irk him. A few feints see 2 WW's, 2 GWW's and a kai used too. He carries on searching for me while I plane-save.

Another 4 kai's are wasted (although I have taken some hits to experiment and learnt his attacks are brutal (37, 39, 37, 31, 40. None were critical. A roll of 3 hit. My poison immunity protects me from the sword effects). My lesson from this is that I cannot afford to melee him for long, but at least his Hardiness, WW, GWW and kai are all used up. I intend to check for regeneration (but the game crashes).

Edit & no sign of Tamah. I can't remember for certain but assume she arrives when Abazigal transforms.

Thanks.

I feint 4 remaining kai's out of Abazigal again then check for anything else. Sometimes he fails to spot me returning so I hit with Hindo's Doom instead. After two hits he sneaks into the small alcove. I hit him once but take two hits in return so move away to cast Hardiness, equip the ring of anti-venom and unleash the Ravager. I retain control and immediately attack. My 90% resistance comes in handy and he is quickly badly wounded.
Posted Image

He transforms as a chain contingency adds PfMW - meaning I can do nothing except turn my attention to Tamah who has arrived behind me.
Posted Image

She puts up magical buffs and a fear before I can hit. I run scared (plus I have an unconscious icon but am immune) then turn and fight while still scared. I'm blocked-in at the entrance though, and Tamah has also cast PfMW. They are both using contingencies and buffs like mad so I get a momentary reprieve from their attacks. Their patience breaks before my fear lifts, and reload45 is required.

I have to remove 4 Kai's again (game sound has also gone this time making it harder to play as I'm starting to use the sounds quite a bit to note when buffs expire), using Improved Invisibility and a potion of Invulnerability. Then Hardiness and Ravager. This time he injures me more (the random poison effect appears to ignore the ring of anti-venom) but I'm still able to force him to grow up.

I glug a potion of insulation taking electrical resistance from 50% to 100% while wondering what damage Tamah does. Never mind - my buffs are dispelled (and HP/THACO) but at least Tamah is injured. I GWW instead and she stoneskins at badly injured and I take 10 self-damage. Her purple dragon breath hits for 4 + 5 (two saves) then they both cast PfMW and I'm cursing for not GWW'ing her (glugged instead). I suspect my Ravaging is drawing to a close so transform and run into the hidey-hole. Tamah is closest and breathes as I glug a potion of Invulnerability and equip Hindo's Doom. I glug a superior potion after taking 39+38 damage, while Tamah stoneskins and a Mordy's sword closes in. The next breath weapon is 65 + 64 damage and I collapse unconscious at near death. The Mordy makes sure of it for reload46.

This time I clear his 4 kai's and pocket plane save before returning. I use potions of Invulnerability and Freedom (mistake as my monk/boot speed is neutralised),  Spectral Brand with II, Stoneskin, Hardiness, DUHM and a WW. I have him badly injured as my WW expires and I have to consider adding another but instead choose to try one more hit. Before I do this he transforms and I am thrown backwards (the amulet protects against Wing Buffet but the transformation is slightly different). I try to Ravager but instead have pocket planed. Save & return then.

Tamah arrives with me so I GWW her. She is badly injured as it ends and has dispelled my buffs (and HP/THACO). I add another and kill her so start on Abazigal hoping that his stoneskins will register the hits despite PfMW.
Posted Image

I lose control and can only grimace as I turn from Abazigal to a Mordy. I regain control, glug a potion of insulation and turn back to Abazigil. I save against a lower electrical resistance and force a second PfMW. I try to resume human form but my aura prevents it. I lose control, and by the time I recover and transform it is too late with reload47 arriving.

I return again, ready-buffed (still with freedom potion though and as a result I'm caught slightly on the hop. I almost die before I Ravager but two GWW's get me back into contention even though malisoned.
Posted Image

I take massive electrical damage so switch to human form and run to glug two potions of insulation. Meanwhile Abazigal has used PfMW and hidden while a Mordy closes in. I use my speed to feint Abazigal one way and then run the other as a breach hits. I'm still 100% electric resistant but am struggling to focus (every screen shake, e.g. fom tail slaps, is sending my view away from the action so I pause to re-focus and un-pause at which point the screen returns to a distant part of the cave instead. Infuriating and in the end I return to the hidey-hole as it happens less there).

Two more breaches are used and I glug a potion to heal while the Mordy sword hassles me. A few more spells target me as well so I glug a second potion. As soon as the sword vanishes I GWW bullets +2, my second set forcing a stoneskin. Once that is down I switch to +4 bullets instead. When he is badly injured I try a Hardiness GWW Spectral Brand and stay for a second GWW. I could perhaps remain but am wary that his near-death state could be 100hp or more. Instead I retreat to lay on hands then mass heal. Back I go, and pause to try my fist. It works better but he casts Finger of Death so I switch to Hindo's Doom instead. I've saved against the FoD so back to fists (all in one GWW) but Hindo has doomed one more victim. Abazigal isn't impressed.

update:

Casta has finally reached Tob but unfortunately fell to the dark side when she accepted the nymph cloak... Druids believe in reusing the by-products of nature (and it’s not like she killed them herself) o’well, these are her stats but I don’t hold out much hope for her likelihood of winning the challenge.

Good luck with your druid.

Kerrick the Smith inspects the Bronze Pantalettes. He lends me some Gold/Silver Pantaloons so I can try on the Big Metal Unit. Interesting (increases monk armour class by 4, does nothing for the Ravager).

Despite my poor charisma and despised reputation I talk Balthazar out of a fight, but cannot get him to travel with me. He kills himself, leaving me alone to face what must come. It starts with the two Ravagers - why does it feel like he's bigger than me?
Posted Image

After checking my hits register I start to GWW as a series of dispels hit (HP & THACO reduced again). One barely injures him, a second sees him injured. Three keeps him injured and four to badly injured. Five is wasted as I rampage a magical sword instead and six sees my final 50hp removed for reload48 and similar for reload49 (I'm finding the transform can be problematic mid-combat).

I try as a monk, the Ravager is not too much of an issue but the continual bone blades are carving me up for reload50. Perhaps the BigMetalUnit and a couple of potions then (I know I shouldn't but I'm not here often and want to see how it works out). A dispelling hit throws me into a corner and my size keeps me penned in by Bone Blades. I try to use the Big Metal Rod but monks can't use two handed weapons and with no way to kill all seven bone blades I am stuck. I switch to my sling and aim at the Ravager. He is immune to +2 bullets while the Bone Blades are loving the +4 to attack and damage against my sling, so I melee the Bone Blades instead and inch forward. I manage to break free but two hits from the Ravager force reload51.

Spectral Brand GWW's? I manage 3 before having to run. He is barely injured and my Ravager change berserks. I recover to GWW the other Ravager then lose control and kill a bone blade as a dispel hits. Another GWW then I lose control again. 13 damage and I GWW the other Ravager again, switching to a bone blade mid GWW. I regain control and switch to monk form and take more damage as I transform but automatically healing once complete. I run, adding Hardiness then GWW but am thrown into a corner and badly bladed before escaping. The Spectral Blade offers me a reprieve and I run to the opposite side before glugging potions.

The Blades are out of sight and the still badly wounded Ravager is slightly closer so I toss a bullet +4 and hit for 3 damage (melee was only doing 6) so I break out 80 bullets and start to GWW. Still badly injured, and the blades are returning to me having outlasted the Spectral Blade. Rats (assume SCS may be improving the standard tracking of enemies that are out of sight so no reprieve for me after all).

I glug an extra healer and start the first of many clockwise laps so I can GWW some more bullets. Around the room I go, glugging healing potions, casting Hardiness and then adding some more GWW's. He is near-death and I have six GWW's left. I'm running at least twice each GWW too to keep the bone blades out of reach, but take the odd hit from them in addition to the items the Ravager is tossing at me. He is still near-death as I activate my final GWW, with a WW left and then 1 attack per round I'm starting to think about what options I have. Luckily I don't have to tread that path.
Posted Image

Just (just!) the final encounter left now, not sure when I 'll get round to it. Not too concerned about Sarevok or Yaga Shura, not sure about Sendai, but Illasera is likely to be ugly and Abazigal is going to be a strain. Not sure whether Balthazar will be present either - from experience he'd be a complete pain and having avoided him earlier I'd be concerned about remembering his actions the hard way.

I'd like to get through them just to greet Melissan and see if I can get to grips with the "Focus" ability as I've not had much luck in the past but can see options here.

I don't see why using the skin of a silver dragon makes me evil while leather from a lion/ bear or even a red dragon is PC... besides pink is the new black didn't you know.

The skin is human, you just took a bit of blood from the silver dragon :D

Good luck with her!

I try to leave - but something remains to be done (initially I think it is the same issue as the multiplayer run but a quick check shows I've forgotten the Cyric Pocket Plane challenge). That doesn't take long with Improved Invisibility, Hardiness and a few GWW's. A voice tells me to buff like never before, but my plan is to save the buffs and see how it goes. Suicide perhaps.

Melissan greets me but prefers to have others brought against me. Irenicus, Bodhi, Imoen (forced into a Slayer transformation) and a Fallen Solar which may look like a Planetar or Deva but hits very hard indeed. I don't want to harm Imoen so run. I test the Solar with my fists, using our combined speed to stay away from Bodhi and Imoen.

Irenicus casts two Timestops. Wear yourself out Jon, I have 98% Magical Resistance and can add Hindo's Doom for 100% if I choose. I move around until Imoen manages to return to normal form and bids me farewell. I switch to fists and hit the Fallen Solar, but take 43 damage in return so run - I have time on my side (possibly). Bodhi is flapping around in bat form, so I keep my distance from her and two magical swords too. I test my bullets +2, Bodhi the bat is immune (could do with 4 weapon slots here - sling, Hindo, Spectral and fists).

The Fallen Solar triggers an Earthquake (I hate these, my screen offsets repeatedly). A Greater Earth Elemental appears and attacks Bodhi as a magical sword unsummons, while I Hindo an Irenicus mirror image to trigger two fireshields. The Solar has used Truesight twice but I can still hide from time to time, and her arrows don't hurt much even when critical. I remain on the move, biding my time. When the Solar switches to melee I have to be crafty and jink around as she is even faster than me, and Bodhi does the same from time to time.

I glug my first superior healing potion as a precaution after some  more earthquakes (I have over 100 in my potion case and bag of holding). Bodhi is injured by a +3 bullet so I can observe her regeneration. A Solar Firestorm is injuring Irenicus, but her arrows are hitting harder now and force a second glug. Bodhi has also taken Firestorm damage so I hit her with a bullet and switch to Spectral Brand for a GWW. She transforms twice and once my GWW is up I have to run as the Solar has helped attack me and Irenicus finally connects with a lightning bolt. I glug a third potion and switch back to Hindo but the Solar is close and has missed with an arrow. I switch to fists and hit her three times before Bodhi arrives. I'm back with Spectral and turn to run (but the game crashes).

That didn't go too bad, my problem against this group is I took 45 minutes with potentially as long again to go if not longer. Chances of repeated crashes and being unable to save are high. Will also see if I can do something about the Earthquake effect.
