I follow the aborted battle with a second. This time the Fallen Solar hits me with three Lower Resistances and my magic resistance falls to 10%. I survive three FoD's but not a fourth for reload52 (20 minutes). Next I injure the Fallen Solar but am insta-killed by something for reload53 (15 minutes).

Next I get the two Timestops out of the way and split the Fallen Solar away from everybody else. WW Fists and a GWW almost kill it but it heals. A long (1h30) battle later I realise the Fallen Solar can probably heal every so often rather than a fixed number of times. If I try to kill it slowly it eventually heals, if I try to kill it quickly it hides and heals. Bodhi is similar too, while Irenicus is little danger but I can't spare the time to kill him. Eventually my frustration sees three repeated attacks on the Fallen Solar with half a dozen GWW's and several heals before my health gives out for reload54.

The Ravager finally sees off the Fallen Solar.
Image IPB

& Irenicus is easy.
Image IPB

But Bodhi can't be killed, turning into a bat repeatedly and healing while immune (slight fire damage but nowhere near enough). I call it a night so that's 55. Feeling a bit stuck at present, tried Angurvadal and even risked level drain with fists but neither worked. Only other option I can think of is consoling Daystar in but trying not to.

Reloads : 55.
Irenicus and Bodhi at the Throne - 5.

Would poison damage help ("Scarlet Ninja-To +3") or have you got the “bottle/ ring of Djinni summoning” i.e. drop them for Bodi and have them ‘Flame Strike’ her & what about the “Big Metal Unit”... I don't see much effort being spent on balance with that mod setup but if the only way to reliably win against it is to use the super slayer abilities that every class has access to, then frankly I just don’t see the point?

Good luck with 56

TUd1:

Image IPB  Image IPB

Phase 1; Lets’ get this show started... I popped an Ele-boss (got earth) and a Deva to add muscle but I didn’t expect much from them. When the smoke cleared they somehow managed to kill one and severely damage two other peons so I used my ‘Energy Blades’ to quickly finish them both off... now for the mage.

Image IPB  Image IPB

Phase 2; he proved to be a bugger by dispelling my adds and dropping aoe on me every time I tried to ‘FireStorm’ him but I finally locked him down with a ‘IP’ and ‘Harm’ combination.

Image IPB

Mano-o-mano; I always have some trouble with Illasera because she dispels my hands (& I didn’t want to use beholder against her because that would be un- sporting ) so I used the “Staff of the Woodlands” to sum blockers (two at a time) and kept charging her in earth form... even without the hands she ran out of healing before I did.

Image IPB

p.s. These are Castas’ basic resistances in human form with her normal fire armour on, (no potion or scroll addiction allowed) just self-buffs and healing... if I need to use an outside buff at some point to get past a fight then I’ll state it.

p.p.s... Tob mods;

I’m also using this run to play-test some house rules * which can be discussed/ downloaded from the post on this forum but I don’t like the potion addiction that solo play normally implies so I’ve dialled back the challenge to compensate.

* Note that Beholders have high magic resistance which is something I was mucking around with but they are crummy at melee combat & I can just cast ‘Magic Resistance’ for the same amount so the fire dragon armour is her basic outfit.

Gromnir fell with only one death from me, but I mercilessly abused running down the stairs to do it. Illasera & Gromnir really are light entertainment compared to the later bosses. I cleared the old temple area easily, and then headed to watcher's keep.

I died once to the statues, then divided and beat them easily. One of the mages got taken to near death by their own pit fiend while I was hiding from the statues and waiting for the demon to teleport to me, perhaps something scs should look into.

I hit level 25 on the statues, so I now have 7 rages, 2 hardiness, 1 power attack, 1 critical strike, 1 smite, 1 ww, & 1 gww. I'm now clearing level 2, feeling more confident generally, and sucking up the trap damage fairly easily.

Good luck folks.

I think Veyal is about to retire. I've tried Daystar (melee and Sunray), Blackrazor, Blackblood, Scarlet Ninja-to and Celestial Fury. None of which helped against either Bodhi or the Fallen Solar.

Edit
Might carry on a while. Been doing some research (apologies to Irenicus for repeated CTRL-Y and Imoen for CTRL-T to get them out of the way as I wanted to try one enemy at a time so there weren't any distractions).
  • Bodhi can panic, this seems to be the only way to finish her off. Can do this with fists if given enough time - that means the Fallen Solar has to be out of the way though.
  • The Fallen Solar can self-destruct, e.g. hiding to heal in her own firestorm. Still thinking about how to do this - perhaps a WW or GWW of the Answerer.

I sympathize Gate. Alesia and Alyssa had trouble finishing Bodhi and the Solars in their No Reload Challenge runs. They managed, but none of their tactics translate into the Monk toolkit.

Your new leads sound promising. I hope they work out.

Best,

A.

Btw. Abigail is completing the Sendai battle at a leisurely pace. She is on the 5th statue now.

Is there any chance that Kitthix would be useful against Bodhi Gate? I don't know if her web tangle is coded as physical in this game, but if so it might have a chance of holding her.

Quick Note on Abigail's Game:

Sendai is in the box and Abigail remains reload free.

I'll post on the fight when I get the chance.

Best,

Personally, I'm glad Gate installed the components he did. Veyal's fight against Improved Enclave Sendai was a high point of the run. I enjoyed seeing the Improved Abazigal's Lair fights as well.

Once again: best of luck against Bodhi and the Solars Gate!

This seems exciting Alesia, I'm glad you brought this challenge back. I'm tentatively interested but I've never played through an SCS run, I definitely thinking about it however, we'll see :)

I've been wondering when you were going to show up Shadow_Leech!

So everyone knows, Shadow_Leech was one of the participants in the original Ascension Solo Challenge. He had some wonderful runs with Warriors.

The battles at The Throne are definitely harder with SCS installed. I bet you'll have fun once you get into it though. Please do feel free to join us!

Cheers,

A.

Kitthix and the Berserk Warrior are quickly dominated by Bodhi.
The Solar heals other characters so is the obvious first target.
Bodhi and the Solar can both carry on even if a Stunning Blow save fails.

As they are cheating so & so's I've decided I will allow myself the ring of Gaxx and the Girdle of Piercing (two consoled items) if that's OK. What I now need is a decent time-slot to be able to spend 2-3 hours on dropping the Solar, if I can manage that then I'm sure I can progress. A detect invisibility item would make life a lot easier

My dastardly plan was to injure Irenicus and target the Solar as she healed him - once at that stage I can injure Irenicus repeatedly without much effort.

I thought I was in luck here but the Neverwinter Nights words of Grovel came to mind when it was ineffective. Something like "Break time? Yes yes yes yes maybe noooooo back to work".

@Gate70. I've noticed that you keep referring to the Fallen Solar, singular. Are you playing on Normal?

If so that's fine, my Avenger Druid, Aliana, completed the Irenicus fight on Normal precisely because she could only handle one Fallen Solar. I was just wondering.

I'm on core, my usual setting. Maybe edit the rules to say state the difficulty level your entrant will be using as I appreciate Hard and Insane add more enemies with Ascension...

I've consoled in Dragonslayer as well as the girdle of piercing and the ring of Gaxx, basis being I get one shot at detect invisibility while the Fallen Solar has infinite invisibility/heal capabilities. She started to heal Irenicus or Bodhi (can't remember which) so I got her to badly wounded then as she vanished I used detect invisibility and attacked again. She ran off so I chased with GWW - if she went invisible again or healed I was in trouble. She kept moving but I managed to hit her once or twice per GWW and three times with my third for the kill.

Once she was down it was a simple case of switching to the Fire Giant Girdle for harder fists with 4APR against Bodhi with the intention of glugging a strength potion if necessary (I learnt earlier that GWW doesn't seem to help and I haven't got any Critical Strikes or similar - not needed them until now). On the second or third go she got scared and a few more hits had her sorted.

Start Praying Jon (too wide to embed well)

I kind of lost track there, but think 60 reloads plus 8-10 experiments with CTRL-Y is about right. Wimpy, but I was struggling and spending 1-2 hours to find that a "good idea" was flawed didn't really appeal if I had say 1 enemy down and was unable to tackle a second.

Edit, & I just tried the same battle on Insane with 3 Solars. Lasted about 10 minutes, could have been longer but foolishly was hitting the solars from time to time...until I went from 82hp to dead in one hit.

First essence pool is disconnected at the second attempt - got hemmed in and couldn't get out. Second time round I started as the Ravager to kill a cambion, babau and balor. Then into human form for a glabrezu, succubus, marilith (who was gating others in), two alu-fiends, a second cambion and the final succubus gated out to not return. Took about 10 minutes I guess.

Edit - this is the top-right pool, granting Veyal "Focus", which grants brief immunity to Timestop as well as Flesh to Stone, Disintegration. Duration is 30 seconds but can be activated every 60 seconds.

Pool 2 was easier. A babau is hidden and refusing to show itself - but that doesn't stop me from de-activating the essence pool within 5 minutes.

The bottom right pool grants Dimension Door, available once per round.

2 goes to do the third pool, was held/stunned by some effect. I used Teleport to move to the fist pool and fight there. Control Demon got a balor on my side then I just killed the rest, but again a succubus teleported and remains invisible. When I move I can hear footsteps (the babau I guess) and can't save the game unless I teleport somewhere else.

Haven't de-activated the pool yet but have concerns. My HLA's haven't been refreshed each "rest", presumably because of the three hidden enemies. There is nothing I can do about it and I didn't realise until I'd used 5 GWW's for the second pool and ran out when I thought I had another ten or so to go.

I guess I could console a trip to the pocket plane as it doesn't happen (to my knowledge) in Ascension so wondering if it is a deliberate or accidental feature of SCS. Will see if they appear when I load up next time. I'm not sure I'll manage the final battle (with or without HLA's) as Balthezar will probably make an appearance too. I've enjoyed getting here though, and the Sendai battle was a real highlight.

Good luck folks, look forward to your Sendai post Alesia. No reloads so far is just amazing and something to aspire to.

The "Book of Infinite Spells", from Brynnlaw (pirate island) has the Divine spell 'True Seeing'... the resource code for it is MISC3A3... any one but a Wizard Slayer can use it.

Don't give up Gate- at least give the final battle a try!

In my install (on Core), the second pool does not refresh abilities, but the third one does.

Try touching the pool and see what happens. If for some reason your abilties are not refreshed, I wouldn't be opposed to a CLUA trip to the Pocket Plane.

Best,

A.

Good luck folks, look forward to your Sendai post Alesia. No reloads so far is just amazing and something to aspire to.

Thanks. That's kind of you to say. This is the same install I use in my No Reload Challenge runs so I do have some experience with it (Alesia, Ashoka, Alessandra, and Alyssa all made it to Abazigal). Piloting an unkitted, single class Cleric has been trickier than the above, but I wasn't really expect Abigail to encounter difficulties up to this point. From here on out, things may get iffy though- Abigail's reload count may end up close to Veyal's before it's all over.

Regardless, Abigail's Sendai post won't be nearly as cool as Veyal's. I have the Improved Yaga Lair installed but NOT the Sendai and Abazigal lair upgrades, so Abigail didn't have to deal with multiple statues at the same time. Abigail feels like she is adventuring in Veyal's mighty shadow. :P

EDIT: Draconis is down. :)

Abigail v. Sendai

Since Abigail's updates are in danger of falling behind her progress, I'll quickly post on the Sendai battle.

(As a reminder, this is the SCS scripted version but NOT the Improved Enclave version. Veyal's fight was a lot harder.)

Budgetting her resources, Abigail entered with minimal buffs, and instead layered spells and potions in as needed. Like, for example, casting Resist Fire/Cold when she knew Flame Strike was on the way.
Image IPB

On the offensive end, DUHM and the Runehammer sufficed against Cleric Sendai.
Image IPB

Arcane Sendai made a nuisance of herself with summons.
Image IPB

But Ages + Everard's Morning Star finished her in the end. The second Arcane Sendai met a similar fate
Image IPB

Enkidu's declawed the Kensai/Thief and Assasin statues.
Image IPB

The Warrior Sendais were felled by The Thrower and quick smacks with the Runehammer.
Image IPB

Finally Sendai herself.

Abigail started the final confrontation with a Deva on the field and a fresh Shield of the Archons.
Image IPB

But once Sendai's second Celestial arrived, Abigail's Deva was routed- forcing Abigail to go on the run chased by a pair of celestials and a truly insane number of insects...
Image IPB

Patience is a virtue, so is Dispel Magic.
Image IPB

The Energy Blades brought Sendai down to Badly Injured. Ages + Everard finished her.
Image IPB

Fin.

Sorry for the sparse coverage, but I'm pressed for time and, at this point, the details are a bit fuzzy to me. =]

I'll post on Draconis soon.

Best,

A.

 Abigail v. Draconis

Once again, I have to do this quickly I'm afraid...

Human Draconis' Wish Double Length Improved Alacrity Time Stop-> Demon Festival was scary, but fleet footed Abigail evaded danger.
Image IPB
Image IPB

Once the summons where out of the picture, Shield of the Archons->Dispel Magic x 3-> Ages + Everard quickly sent the battle into Dragon phase.
Image IPB

Like her non-arcane predecessors in the No Reload Challenge, Abigail arrived wearing Shadow Dragon Armor, drew out Draconis' Remove and then layered in Pro Acid, Shield Amulet, and Oil of Speed. Working at a movement rate disadvantage -and with his range damage options neutralized- Draconis wasn't much of a threat, but how to kill him?

Abigail began by occupying the hidey-hole and casting Farsight on the blindspot. She then unloaded her Firestorms to bring Draconis down to Injured.
Image IPB

Once the Firestorms were tapped, it was Holy Power->Righteous Magic->Harm.
Spell Deflection, Magic Resistance, and missess meant that 8 casts were used to land twice. Draconis did make effective use of his offensive openings in this phase and brought Abigail down to Badly Wounded twice.
Image IPB
Image IPB

Draconis just needed a nudge after the second Harm landed. It came from a Potion of Firebreath.
Image IPB

Fin!

Best,

A.

Can Shield of the Archons be brought down with standard spell protection removal stuff? From your posts it doesn't seem SCS mages do anything about it. Or are you repeatedly recasting?

To my surprise, Shield of the Archons has been flat out stumping them.

Anything from Secret Word on up will take it down. Abigail usually keeps one in reserve in case it is taken down, but I don't recall ever needing to recast- aside from when it has run out in long battles.

So effectively SotA means immunity from single-target spells? Or they will cast spells into it anyway? Either way sounds like a design oversight.
