SCS smarter demons = teleport without error = That might work on STUPID demons 8-Bit, but in these parts it just makes us annoyed, RAAARGH!

OK Potty, Smarter Demons sounds tricky but elemental scrolls seems like a good plan so long as you have enough GWW's to unload and plenty of healers to glug if needed. Good luck (and I believe the yellow armour provides piercing and missile damage resistance EDIT although I just realised you may be talking about another dragon not Andramatis).

Alesia, did Firestorm finish Tamah or did she require extra.

He's talking about the yellow dragon from the Tactics Ritual component.

I've never used the armor, but I wouldn't be surprised if it offered piercing resistance- that dragon's breath weapon does piercing damage as well.

Do you intend to use the boots Potty1?

Alesia, did Firestorm finish Tamah or did she require extra.

None of the above. She was taking damage from the Firestorms along with Abazigal, however, her frequent Cure Serious Wounds casts kept her alive. Happily, she dimmension doored away when Abazigal died.

Had she stayed, Abigail could have taken her down. The tyranny of Tamah that my characters have suffered through may be over now that the breath weapon problem is solved.

Btw. Abigail's destiny is nearly complete. I'll let everyone know when she's ready to enter The Throne.

@Gate you are correct, piercing and missile not slashing.

@Alesia I hadn't planned to. I'd prefer to keep the boots of speed, and the tactics boots seem pointless for a non-castre. Plus their inherent brokenness is beyond the pale even for me. Er, please tell me my cleric/mage didn't use them. Aargh, the shame :pinched:

I was initially curious why you asked, because what protections am I running that they can possibly dispel, and then I realised  hardiness :crying:

I was thinking of potion buffs actually- assuming it protects those. I'm not overly familiar with the mechanics of the Preserving Boots. I allowed the original transmuter Alastria to use them against Pontifex but that's all.

Anyhoo. If you do choose to use them, be sure to let everyone know how they work: I'm guessing some aren't familiar with The Ritual and its loot.

Best,

A.

Quick Note on Abigail's Game:

Abigail has completed her last Pocket Plane challenge and is ready for The Throne.

Can she pull this off? I'm not sure. I'm certain she could do the original Ascension but I have my doubts about the SCS version. We'll just have to see.

Wish her luck.

A.

Abigail v. Ascension Irenicus

Abigail has survived her first confrontation at The Throne. Balthazar less so.

This is the one of the few known photographs of Abigail and her Bhaal-sib ally together. Tragic it is. =]
Posted Image

The fight started reasonably well. Or so it seemed. In retrospect, Abigail was letting Balthazar take on far more than he could handle- even though he did manage to take down a Fallen Solar.
Posted Image

Shortly after the Solar fell, it quickly became clear that something was wrong. 17+9. Miss?
Posted Image

How could Balthazar miss on a 26? Unless...
Posted Image

Right. Fortunately, the remainder of the battle was still pretty straightforward for Abigail. A little trickery with The Reflex vorpaled the second Fallen Solar.
Posted Image

Stumped by Shield of the Archons, Jon took Ages+Everard.
Posted Image

Finally Bodhi. Some of you may be wondering why Bodhi wasn't pestering Abigail while she finished Jon. Like here for example: Why isn't Bodhi disrupting this Shield of the Archons cast?
Posted Image

Pro Undead, believe it or not. After noticing that Pro Undead worked against Pocket Plane Bodhi, I packed a few scrolls for Abigail before sending her off to The Throne. Happily, it worked- freeing Abigail to finish Bodhi at her leisure.
Posted Image
Posted Image

Abigail is now up to Demon Battle III. I'll write again when she's ready for Mel and the 5.

Best,

A.

I figured I'd give this a go. Decided on a half-Orc barbarian for my first ever attempt at a modded BG2 game. Also, I'm not sure how to do pictures or links so sorry in advance.

Shazrak - Half-Orc Barbarian
19/18/19/11/18/10 (natural 95 stat roll, didn't cheat. Went high wisdom for bonus saves)
Nuetral Evil, with ***Two Weapon Style***, **Flails**, **Axes**, and *Long Swords*

Currently I'm in chapter three of SoA. Going about and doing what quests I'm able to so far. Biggest issues are far and away mages. I've reloaded 6 times, all but 1 due to them. Dominate, charm, etc is bad news on a failed save, so I've had to slow down and rest more often to ensure that I have rage up when I need it. Level 9 is only 3 uses, so I assume this is going to be a relative non-issue later. Had another death when I opened a trapped chest and got mazed. Working on a few small quests but should start on D'Arnise Keep tomorrow if there's time.

Abigail, Cleric: Demon Battle I

Low on spells, Abigail was anxious heading into Demon Battle 1. Fortunately, she had just enough juice left to finish comfortably.

Having taken Holy Power->Righteous Magic->Improved Haste (Amulet of Cheetah Speed) at the end of the Irenicus fight to finish Bodhi -and with AoF, The Defender, and Roranach's in place- Abigail was well positioned to take down the crushing demons.
Posted Image
Posted Image

With Shield of the Archons running low now -and with Implosion therefore a looming threat- Abigail moved the Balor to the top of her hit list. Buffing to 127% Fire Resistance to take healing for Aura of Flaming death and boxing out the Marilith with her own Skeletons made a melee assault safe.
Posted Image

Once the Balor fell, Turn Undead cleared the way.
Posted Image

Holy Smites and Abigail's last stack of Energy Blades took care of the Marilith.
Posted Image

Moderate buffs were enough to finish off the last Cambion.
Posted Image

Only one remaining: that now infamous "Peek-a-Babau." Abigail's Deva summoned in preparation for Demon Battle II took care of him.
Posted Image

I'll post on Demon Battles 2 & 3 if there is interest. Otherwise, I'll write again when Abigail takes on Mel and the 5.

Best,

A.

Quick Note on Abigail's Game:

Demon Battle III is over. Now comes the tricky part.

I have to admit, I'm finding it hard to imagine a victory here. It's easier to picture Abigail sitting alongside Veyal at a support group for failed ascenders...

A.

Are you quick enough to out-pace them all, Gromnir isn't quite the same as Balthy in that regard. I'd have thought reflection shield should allow some hefty thrower hits while keeping safe from Illasera.

Melissan, her timestop teleport attacks and the demons she'll be summoning at your difficulty level could be another matter. Am I right in thinking the Bhaalspawn have to be killed before she can die?

Good luck anyway (and to Kraitok as well).

Yes. Abigail has been hording Oils of Speed throughout the adventure. She has 29 of them.

I'd have thought reflection shield should allow some hefty thrower hits while keeping safe from Illasera.

Yes. Range fighting with The Reflex equipped will be the core or Abigail's strategy.  There's a cackling crew of devils in the details but, nonetheless, I do expect Abigail to make it through The Five phase using that approach. She knocked off three of them on her first try a moment ago.

Am I right in thinking the Bhaalspawn have to be killed before she can die?

Yes. And it's that endgame phase that worries me most. In the original Ascension, Melissan would teleport to one of the pools and park once The Five were dead. Under those circumstances, Abigail could have hung back, dumped a bunch of Firestorms, and then finished with +4 bullets. With Mel pursuing aggressively -and casting Divine Mantle constantly- the endgame is completey different. I'm not sure how Abigail is going to handle that part.

Good luck anyway (and to Kraitok as well).

Thanks. :)

Best,

A.

Btw. During Alyssa's run I wrote: "Players often talk about recipes for endgame power in Ascension. The best answer that you never hear is slings, shields, charisma, reputation, and wisdom."  I'm guessing you see what I meant now.

Quick Note on Abigail's Game:

Abigail's second attempt went much like the first. She knocked off Sendai, Illasera, Gromnir, and Sarevok before a silent Time Stop cast killed her. She needs to stay closer to Mel to prevent that from happening.

Edit: Third attempt. Abazigal, Sendai, Illasera, Sarevok, and Gromnir killed this time. Lava Bomb disrupting Focus cast ended Abigail.

Mel's Bone Blades are a big problem for Abigail. Mirroring stops them, but I'm reluctant to let Abigail use it- especially since I've already caved and allowed her the Rod of Resurrection.

I actually considered doing a solo bounty hunter run through. I'm not sure if any of the mods / fixes change it but I would think having maze traps would make battles relatively easy to break in to smaller portions. Unfortunately I'm not familiar enough with the intracasies of mage spells to give that a realistic go, although a sorcerer or wild mage certainly have raw ability to get it done.

Actually if I remember right the wild mage would probably be relatively strong due to having a huge supply of high level spells due to (I think) the level 2 nahals spell. Also, with the buff up its impossible to have a bad surge as its 1d100 + character level and whatever the buff adds. The trick would be keeping buffs up without being permanently stripped.

I documented an insane Ascension solo with my sorceress, Alanis, on the old forums. Based on my experience with her, I suspect that an SCS-Ascension sorcerer solo would be trickier than it sounds.

I'd be very interested in seeing an attempt.

Having a tough go of it so far against mages. Total reload count is now 10. The ambush fights traveling around Amn are somewhat tricky as I have very little area to spread them out. I do have a reasonable set of tactics now though, although it unfortunately involves invisibility potions to wait out some buffs. Decided to buy the Air Elemental ring from the adventurer mart for the free use. Also picked up the Stonefire Axe +3 as it's nearly as good as the FoA, and can hit mages through Stoneskin which I'm finding invaluable for interrupting them. I'm also pretty psyched to be nearing level 11 mark for +10% melee resists. Should be nice for later when I'm able to get Hardiness.

Have I mentioned I'm also a noob when it comes to high end BG2 tactics? Haha.

I sympathize. I'd prefer not to wait out buffs as it feels a bit dirty to me, but with some classes, it seems the only way (or at least the safest way).

No Reload play has nudged me into using that approach often, but I'd rather not in truth.

Not in so many words. It should be a good learning experience. :)

Expect life for your barbarian to get easier and then harder: easier when he becomes over-levelled in mid SoA, and then harder in the latter half of ToB when encounters are balanced for level capped parties.

It'll be fun. But do expect some savage beatings along the way...

Started to clear D'Arnise. So far so good, the trolls are exactly the type of fighting I need. Spectral's in particular are worthwhile as 12k exp is quite significant for me at this point, and there are quite a few of them. Also, getting the FoA is a huge boost to my overall performance.

Side note, even though there was a +3 axe in the keep as good as the Stonefire Axe, I'm glad I picked it up. I wouldn't have been able to kill any trolls otherwise without the +fire damage on it. Should be finishing up the keep soon, will report on how the rest of it goes.

Managed the golems much better than expected. They weren't pushovers, but ultimately weren't able to do enough damage for me to really worry about them. The Barbarian HP pool is quite impressive all things considered.

Torgal was another matter entirely. I'm currently level 12, however with only 3 rages per rest period it makes extended fights extremely tricky. The extra attack sequences to actually kill a troll really drew this battle out for me. I opted to block a doorway so I only had to deal with 2 at a time. This allowed me to go through all 3 of my rages and thin them out. I'd then fall back to another room and do the same. The first time I did this a mage teleported behind me and blocked the door, and I was quickly overwhelmed. However, it went smooth the second attempt. I actually managed to trap Torgal in a room while I chewed up everything that was left, then went back for him.

SoA Chapter 3, just finished D'Arnise
