I know we're a hard lot to deal with- the BSN is full of people who argue, lament, **** and moan, complain, and insult your hard work.  But I just wanted to remind you guys that we're your fans. We're the most loyal, the most interested, and the most opinionated- but we're still fans. We wouldn't be here if we weren't. And sometimes I just don't think you like us very much, and that seems...awkward.

We may not seem like we do, but some of us do appreciate what you're doing- and what you're telling us, or not telling us, and maybe we seem a little crazy, and maybe we come off a little overzealous,  but that's because we're invested in what you do, and isn't that the point?

I've been reading Bioware according to Mom- which is a tumblr that everyone should read, by the way, and I know it's touched you guys- I know it makes you feel good about what you do every day.  I know we're not always like that. I know that we insult and complain and nag and generally do really stupid things- and sometimes have really stupid concerns and opinions. But really, at the end of the day, we're rooting for you. We've come to immerse ourselves in this world that you've created and we wouldn't be here otherwise.

Sometimes I think you guys come off really snarky and maybe kind of mean, and a lot of times you seem to me as though you just really, really dislike the BSN. And I get that it's hard to deal with us sometimes. But we're on your side, even if it doesn't seem like it. As many people as say they hate Bioware and hate the direction you've gone, they are all still here, still invested in what you do.

Your interaction is important to us. I don't like being treated with disdain. I'm not some lunatic fangirl or some hatemongering ball of negativity, and I think that would hold true with the rest of the board as well. We're your fans. We're loud, obnoxious, and probably hard to get along with, but we're still your fans and we're on your side.  Stop treating us like red-headed stepchildren, k? We're not some running twitter joke. We care the most.

^ Uncalled for Douche baggery

She is totally within her right to make a plea for respect for herself and anyone else that feels they're being treated less than human on this forum.Everyone deserves respect, even rude people like you.

I can agree with this.

...but some posters are asses and I laugh whenever I see a BioWare employee being snarky at them. Not that it changes the poster's ideas or complaining but it makes me smile.

It's strange that the OP choose to speak for everyones on the BSN. Kind of hard to chew when you include everybody. Still a good opportunity to talk to the developers if you have anything to say.

Naturally I really enjoy when the developers post makes us feel like they're part of the community. Also they are usually of a higher quality of post then most of us and have better information.

Thank You developers. and thank the OP for being positive at any rate.

That's... what individual BSN identities are for, aren't they?

But actually, it just so happens that I've been feeling this way too.

Which is sad, because the emphasis was so strongly on making the new DAIII thread a much more positive place.  Posted Image

Regardless, even if I disagreed, this post took courage and was written about as respectfully as anyone expressing this opinion could have hoped to without skirting around the issue. So I respect that.

I understand that what we write or suggest can at times be annoying to the writers and developers, but I feel that not all of us have earned the sarcasm given to us. Also, if I need to be put in my place, I'd personally rather it be done in a constructive, straightforward way. It's less amusing for other posters, I guess, but it will be a lot more helpful toward me understanding my error and how to not duplicate it in the future.

That may be the case, but you sure do claim to speak for BioWare a lot.

What behaviour of the developers has caused you to feel disrespected?

I don't think anyone needs to really be put in their place. It's the internet, after all, and some people take it way too seriously. Half the time, people come on here, typing out things that maybe they wouldn't otherwise say, and it probably gets overwhelming once in awhile, especially for the devs who moderate the forums. But regardless - it's the Internet. Everything on the Internet is magnified, and overexaggerated, and typically demonstrated in the heat of emotion. Once you post it, it can't be taken back. :::shrug:::

The users of this forum are guilty of doing it.
The developers and writers of this forum are guilty of doing it.

Hooray for the Internet - a place of mindlessness, lack of social interaction, and isolated ideologies.

p.s. totally drunk while posting that. ironic, huh? ;)

How, precisely? I'm always pretty clear that my opinions are my own. And I never preface any statements with "we."

Do you guys realize people don't have these actual conversations in real life? That's what is interesting about the Internet. Everyone is so rude and judgmental right off the bat, Imagine if we verbally responded to others the way we do on Internet forums.

Sigh. Just go back and look at some of your previous comments, especially the ones that start with "BioWare will" or "BioWare won't." Unless your name is BioWare, I don't think you're speaking for yourself.

I'm not sure if I should laugh or cry, but I'm fairly sure the OP's point (that all the BSN forumites deserve some respect) has been wholly disproven by now.

Op has serious concerns about her forum environment. This isn't something to be made light of.

I recommend op send her concerns into the forum community manager -- chris priestly. He's really the only one that can address this and help effectively.

Oh I missed the point.  Was that what the were your loyal fans part was suppose to mean?  I disagree people only deserve the repect that is normal not something special for being fans.

I was more so aiming that sentiment at those who replied who took what she said and flat out judged her in a very silly way.

She isn't asking for any special respect but respect in general minus the condescension.I understand who and what she's talking about.

The dynamic of these forums has definitely changed since the old forums and the early days.

At least there is a lot of staff still engaging - diminished and in a different light, but they're still there.

You're right. I shouldn't have presumed to speak for the entirety of the BSN- I assumed that most people on a fan forum were fans and most people who were fans would appreciate a little respect. But think it's too much to ask for the developers to respect us when we can't respect each other.

As for specific examples where I have felt that the snark has gone from snark to mean- absolutely. For instance, in the dead mother thread- the OP asked very nicely if Bioware could possibly quit killing off the protaganist's parents. There were a lot of reasons why the OP gave this suggestion- and one of those reasons was that her own mother died when she was a teenager- and watching Hawke's mother die in her arms was a painful experience to play through. And not just imaginary painful, actually painful. So that request came from a personal place, and was suggested with grace, eloquence, and respect. To that, David Gaider said...and I quote.

"Ah, okay. Got it.

Written in notebook: "Next time kill two mothers instead of one. No point getting stale.""

Okay, so I have a dead dad too- and maybe asking for a developer to cater to our own personal tragedies is not something they would consider and it's probably not something we should expect them to cater to, and I don't think the poster really intended to change anyone's opinion. She was posting her own request, in a nice way. Lots of people make personal requests. Like for instance, the desire for a desire demon LI companion. Her request can't be any weirder than that. And the snarky response from a developer, without any sensitivity whatsoever, was really offensive to -me-. And I don't even have a dead mom. I found it to be cruel and heartless. And I stand up for David Gaider a lot. I'm always preaching about how we should be nicer and appreciate what they all do. But I expect the same in return. If I post something, and I'm respectful about it- I should expect the same in return. I don't think that's too much to ask.

Still there, that is true, but for how long?

OP has a point, we do come across as an unruly crowd. There's only so much whining and demanding someone can take before they decide they don't give a damn anymore.

As it stands, this has been happening for too long.
