im with you there.  it seems to have always been about this.  the scope changes,  you learn more - but at its core this has always been a major theme

ARE YOU ****ING KIDDING ME?

You do realise that it was THE REAPERS controlling these synthetics, right? RIGHT!?

Think she meant they were following Nazzara's orders(or Saren who was following Naz's orders), controlled in a sense since they were killing organics on Nazzara's or Saren's whim and not really because they just felt like, kind of like how soldiers follow some orders regardless of how horrible they are, but yeah not brainwashed like they were in ME3.

But even tho they were taking orders after being bribed this doesn't diminsish their threat.  Synthetics are stronger, smarter and cabable of reproducing much, much quicker.  Very dangerous!  It's a "theme" of the game, thats all I was saying.  We've proved we can hug it out for now so the end goes against this but the threat is still very real...

I always thought (well after the theme was said) that it meant the reapers, since they were synthetic in ME1 game, and apperently some form of Synthetic-Organic Hybrid in 2, and if that's the case, then damn Organics for the lose in every scenerio, the exception being aid from a DEM , and that takes about who knows how many tries to perfect over the years through past help, so if it were a score card it would probably be like Synthetics/Reapers: about 200,000 cycles / Organics: 1 cycle with help; not making me feel better for being an Organic bIoware.:pinched:

I know it hurts, guys, but try to think of it as a train wreck full of clowns. Tragic but it gives us something to laugh about.

And I think that's what the majority of these threads need; some humor to fight back against the negativity.

So without further delay, my reactions in motivational poster form.

Before: Alright! I'm about to kick the Reapers right in the daddy bags because I'm Commander F**king Shepard!

Right After: Huh? Did I miss something? Yeah, the ending can't be that... abrupt.

After picking another choice: It's the same thing, but now it's blue. The EXACT same thing. Ok, it's late so I'll youtube this synthesis ending and hope it's different.

After a quick trip to youtube: It's green. That's it?! Seriously?! FUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!-
After going on BSN and seeing how everyone sees the Dead Reaper at TIM's base regardless and how insignificant the choices were: -UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!-

After the EC: UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!

Now: Why does this game exist? Fan Fiction is better than most of this. The one time they could truly do divergent choices, and they do the opposite! GRAH!

oh yea Organics are getting "slaughtered" (sports metaphor and all that Posted Image)
And also yea the crucible was seemingly a gift from God.  Oh look Liara found a solution exactly when we need it here on the "ground"  YAY!   I still loved the series the end doesn't suck that completely away but just wish it would have been more "heroic" at the end is all.

You're not alone. I marathoned the original series in a few days thinking everyone overreacts to it... until I hit the last few episodes. Then my mind started fracturing as they continued to throw their deranged, nihilistic philosophy in my face with little connection to anything that was happening.

I prayed for End of Eva to provide some semblance of narrative clarity. But nope, I was just one of thousands of whiny fans who deserved this mind frak for questioning their "artistic integrity."

From what little I've seen of the Rebuild series the director seems to have broken out of his depression phase (symbolized by Shinji, the poster boy of all whiny emo kids, growing a goddamn spine and taking taking charge in many crucial situations). I'm still on the fence about how this version will play out but I've got my fingers crossed for a saner, less convoluted ending.

Wow, sure is Gainax in this post. Might as well finish on the same theme.

I find it odd that people always compare this to Evangelion's ending. I could probably write a book about how different the whole situation is, but let me just say that twenty years from now, don't expect Mass Effect 3's ending, or even Mass Effect 3 as a whole, to be remembered the way Evangelion is remembered now.  it won't have anywhere near the same impact on the industry. Secondly, the major difference is that Evangelion's ending was still about its characters, even in EoE. Everything that happened revolved around the main characters. At no point did I feel that Evangelion abandoned its main themes, no matter how confusing the endings got. On the other hand, Mass Effect 3's ending did exactly that.

 Before the EC:

My husband (although he doesnt play ME he does read tech mags and such) warned that there was an uproar over the endings but waved him off...

I met the catalyst and went numb. Didnt know where I was going and walked into auto run to synthesis. I walked out to my husband after that and said, "That wasnt so bad, I dont know what all the fuss was about." Then preceeded to cry all over him. :crying:

I went back and listened to the catty again and that time shot the tube.

After EC:

Shooting the tube was a little better and I have resigned myself to the endings.

The reaction of my daughter and myself:
Curing the Genophage and associated Krogan quests - Epic and moving - wonderful.
Death of Thane - Moving
Brokering the Peace between Quarians and Geth plus associated Rannoch quests - Epic and moving, plus the jaw dropping "Shepard you are not seriously intending taking on a Reaper single handed?"
Kai Leng - annoying and not impressive.
Priority Earth - Bit of a slog but felt it was building up to an epic confrontation (like battling across Denerim in order to confront the Archdemon).
After being hit by Harbinger - What in the hell is going on?
On meeting the Catalyst - Not you again.
Colour coded choices - Confusion.
End scene - Well that was a bit anti-climatic - Can see why people are upset.
After EC - Well that was better, not great but better.
Comparing Notes: Why didn't we get to use our Assets like in ME2 with a shrewd choice resulting in better outcome and a poor choice in a lesser one?

The majority of the game was enjoyable - I think they just ran out of ideas by the end so tried for something different and it backfired.

In short this:

Looking back on the rest of the game afterwards made the rest of the flaws more apparent, though with the exception of the last ten minutes they were still acceptable to me.
