For example, in DA:O we had to recruit armies, but again we had to chose a side, Templars or Mages, Elves or Werewolves, in Redcliff we could save both the wife and the son and so on, things like this. In DA2 we didn't had much choice that actually matters, would't like that to happen again. So i am asking you, would you like an almost full customizable storyline, or a liniar one?

There are choices all throughout both games, and honestly aside from the people involved little of either has lasting impact. Who rules after Cailan having the largest impact that would affect not just the people of Ferelden, but neighboring areas as well (like Orlais and the Free Marches). Whether Hawke chooses to defend the mages, or join the templars in the Rite would have an impact of similar importance I should think.

I found it irksome that people got all upset that every piddly little decision they made in Origins wasn't implemented in DA2. Some stuff they had reactive quests or commentary from NPCs in the game, a lot of it, people in a neighboring country wouldn't give a whit about.

The reason we could do those things in DAO was, essentially, because they didn't actually affect anything. This is likely the reason, other than time and budget restraints, why these choices were not radically present in DA2: the linear narrative required there to be only a modicum of variation possible in the main narrative, or they'd have made radically different Acts 2 and 3 depending on your choices in the previous acts. Obviously, this would have been ideal, but it just isn't going to happen with the current Bioware games. It never has. They could have done a much better job with DA2 than they did, granted (and as much as I love the game).

Think how different Origins would have had to be if Broken Circle was directly related to Nature of the Beast, which in turn directly led to Paragonof Her Kind. The outcomes of these quest lines would have to be adjusted appropriately or the narrative just wouldn't have worked. This is the benefit of doing quest lines that are separated by space rather than the linearity of time, they can have differing conclusions that don't necessarily impact the other quest lines until they dovetail into some kind of finale (which they did in Origins in a very, very minor way - some summonable units and a brief cameo in some situations before the final battle,e.g. Zathrian).

I'm guessing, from what little we know, that DA3's narrative structure will more closely resemble that of DAO than DA2, which will lead to greater variation in conflict resolution by default, and some fancy text box epilogue that convinces the player that she or he made a massive difference in the world.

I'm still convinced that DA2 would have got far less hate if it had had a bunch of text boxes at the end telling you how that merchant you frequented went on to become some renowned global tradesman and the poor beggar eventually got on her feet and married a lord.

@OP: You mean LINEAR or NON LINEAR plot?

Forget it. BioWare's is selling illusion of useless choices. There can only be linearity in BioWare's games. One story path and 3 different color explosion is the best you can hope for BioWare's standard.

Don't get me wrong. I love non linear story or multi-divergent plots which lead to multiple MAJOR different endings ( not just coloring the galaxy with 3 different explosions ) as the result of my real choices. The ability to alter the story into several different arcs. But I've argued enough with people who defend BioWare's illusion of useless choices or story linearity, it frustrated me even more.

There really are only three different choices that would affect the rest of Thedas in Origins.

#1 - Who rules Fereldan?
#2 - What was the Warden's boon? (mostly the origin story-specific boon)
#3 - Did you complete the Dark Ritual?

In DA2, there is nothing that really changes from playthrough to playthrough. The only really significant decision is did Hawke become Viscount, and even that is largely nullified by the fact Hawke has disappeared.
I sincerely hope this is the last DA. Don't get me wrong, I love the world and the game to bits, but being the last game means they can do ANYTHING with all kinds of crazy choices. Like what they should have done with ME3.
