Why are we sometimes punished for failing an operation but not rewarded for succeeding in one?

No, they weren't ...

A writer gets paid by book sales.  He does not get given a way to make writing his next novel easier which is what the OP is asking for the game to do.
A boxer gets paid to fight.  He does not get given a way to make his next fight easier which is what the OP is asking for the game to do.
etc.

Use your head, people.  The examples are about succees never being a gaurantee that next time things will be easier, but that's what the OP is asking for and everyone else seems to be going along with.

Stenum, you're using examples of real life (albeit a little warped), to metaphorically describe why it's ludicrous for people who play ME online to want something a little less watered down than victory packs for weekend objectives, on the basis that you live in a capitlistic society? Just get out.

I just want different game types or a less non-sensical platinum :(

Mr. Pocketm, if I am using capitalist examples it is because there is a capitalist system in game.  You work in game, you get paid for it, you spend the money on the items (the packs) you want.
You don't get given something to automatically make things easier just because you want it.

This is a video game, not real life.

This is a video game that we play in real life.

I'm not sure either of us has a relevant point, I just thought I should respond anyway.  :?

Sweet jesus it's like you're running for a mediocre poltical seat. Are you really sure? Because all the points are shared, which isn't capitilistic at all. & if we're going to actually talk about the ME universe take a good hard look at Turians and Quarians. You're sort of just wrong on every level @_@

I wasn't talking about the points, I was talking about the credits earned.

I thought talk of "spending it on packs" might have made that obvious.

Are you thick? When you complete an objective - whether or not you did it, someone else did it, you all get the dough, even if you were sitting in the corner being only as helpful as cannon fodder can be in the first 30 seconds of the game. You're swimming so deep in the invalid you don't which way is up.

I'd rather they make the Victory Pack more worthwhile. Ultra-Rares, please?

To be fair, you get paid based on how many objective waves are completed while you're in the match rather than how much you actually contributed to the match (as long as you're actually there at the end of the match). So I guess it's more Marxist than Capitalist. Moving on...

We do get rewarded for completing the community goal. We get a Victory Pack. Whether it's adequate or not is another issue entirely. Personally, given that it's extra consumables and temp equipment and occasionally unlocks over and above what you get from normal spending, I don't see much cause to complain.

You earn credits by playing the game.  Even if you're no good at it, you still eventually earn credits.  Doesn't matter if one player does all 4 objective points while everyone else fights and dies, you still earn credits.
I say, you earn the credits just for playing the game.  You are arguing that ... you earn credits just for playing the game.

And somehow this means I am "swimming so deep in the invalid" ...

Um ...

or we could stop having weekend objectives to stop the whining, bioware is entitled to give you absolutely nothing, they can give you what they want, most companies would have ended these by now. though it would be nice if they did give n7 weapons in the vic packs again lol.

I think the whole point is that I can spend 15 min. playing and go buy a SP with better items in it than a Victory Pack. Why grind for a weekend to complete an objective to receive garbage in return? It's a waste. It has nothing to do with Capitalism or a real life reward! Who's teaching these idiots how to use a computer?...

After the first kill operation with brutes they had brutes spawn less... why not repeat it this time with atlases?

I don't need an UR or an N7 weapon in my Victory pack, but I would like to upgrade one of the many pieces of gear I don't have maxed yet. Gear should take precedence over a consumable in the card system, like weapons and characters do.

I want to unlock all my ultra-rares fully upgraded, bioware send me a mail-order bride, send me blank checks in the mail, and give me free air-line tickets to hawaii.

Also, Stenun, I feel I speak for 99.9% of the community when I say tl;dr.

If a boxer fails does that make his next fight harder? Writing another novel more difficult if the novel isn't a hit? No.. Not at all.. Now, if in a huge war you destroy 600,000 mech suits, you'd expect there to be LESS mech suits running around.. If you fail to destroy that mech factory, then there are going to be more.

It makes perfect sense that we get a similar in game reward for doing a mission to try and cripple the enemy forces if we get an in game punnishment for failing to cripple those forces.
