It sure beats requiring an internet connection. Just as recent as about a year ago, I found out the hard way that my DSL modem had crapped out. I waited for it to reconnect because I thought my ISP was having problems... By the time I called them and ordered a new modem, I had to wait for a holiday and a long weekend for it to ship.addiction21 wrote...

Let's go back to CD keys and requiring a disc to be in the drive. Screw Steam, screw Origin, screw DRM and digital download.
Those were the good days. Or having to type in the word on page 35 paragraph 4 word 15 to continue playing.
The days before Valve saved PC gaming.superdeathdealer14 wrote...

**** happens?
I think it was worth it just to see someone say Steam saved PC gaming.

I know it is a bit too early for this discussion, but i would like to know what the community thinks about DRM and especially Origin. This is of course concerning the PC version of the game.

WoW and Half-Life 2 were released within days (maybe week at the least both were in November of that year) of each other and HL2 REQUIRED a Steam install and activation.
Pretty much Valve held one of the biggest most anticipated sequels in gaming hostage. DRM was not even a thing then.
Yep. I was on dial-up at the time, and found Steam intensely annoying since you needed a few hundred megs downloaded to play.
These days I can't tell the difference, excpet that Steam is a bit more aggressive about trying to sell me stuff.

I prefer the steps that both Valve,CDProjektRed and to some extent, Bethesda, take to curb piracy. Utterly brilliant and consumer oriented.
They make the original product have more appeal as opposed to restricting the original product even further with DRM. Steam has frequent sales and a lot of side goodies like tradeable virtual cards. Both CDPR and Beth release free DLCs for their games and they give lots of freebies to encourage people to get original games...
Analogically speaking, using DRM is like using a whip/cane to stop people from getting access to a candy for free (piracy). Will not be effective and frustrating. What CDPR, Steam & Beth do is akin to giving more candy for the same price & giving frequent discounts for that said candy...
You tell me which way consumers & customers are going to like...

Almost guarantee it will be an Origin exclusive and I am perfectly fine with that.

Personally I don't have a problem with DRM. I mean you have keys to your house and car, right? You don't see people demanding that keyless cars be produced on the assumption that they would be stolen less do you?

Material stuff not equal digital. So logic like that don't work.

Honestly, DRM is very inefficient and foolish way to curb piracy.
DRM isn't about curbing piracy. It's about control.

You can sell your car or your house if you want. You don't have to get new keys if you make too many renovations on the house. You also don't need to dial up to the manufacturer for permission to park your car in another driveway.
But this discussion is off topic for this forum. I doubt it's going to last much longer.

Yes i suppose that does sum up Piaracy... although there is one last tiny bit left off the end.

Steam was an absolutely steaming pile back when it was foced down everyone's throat to play Counterstrike. It become a really good digital store, but that was years after.

True but Valve took time and effort to perfect it, and that is why it is the power house it is today. I don't think EA will follow suit with Origin though.

The only way you PC gamers can get through to EA is don't buy the game on PC buy it else where like a Console. People didn't like the DRM on XboxOne and it didnt get many preorders until Microsoft announced they were removing the that DRM policy that it had. So I say to you PC Elitist don't buy it on PC if you truly don't like Origins than you won't buy it on PC otherwise shut your trap because by buying it on your PC you are giving the Greenlight on Origins.

After the XboxOne incident last year with their DRM you think EA would revise that. It proved that your wallet talks when it comes to companies.

Don't start a PC vs Console war. There are advantages and disadvantages to both platforms.

In the event Inquisition looks interesting enough that I want to play it - but Origin is a requirement - I'll likely find myself another way to play the game. No biggie.
Isn't advocating piracy a TOS violation? (You too, Travie)
Or are you going to pretend you were talking about something else?

No I was advocating for PC gamers to do what console gamers did to make XboxOne change their always Online policy. Which was the system didn't get crap worth preorders and they were going to PS4 until the policy was changed. I am merely suggesting don't buy the PC version if you don't like Origins thing, get it on another system to enjoy it if you can, Dragon Age Keep makes that easier since importing won't be an issue.
I am suggesting you guys take a stand instead of just complaining about how bad Origins is, because if its as bad as you say it is than why are you buying the PC version? Last time i saw this type of thread was on Mass Effect 3, but everyone caved in and when Mass Effect 3 came out was when it first started, when it would of mattered the most to make the policy of Origins change.
