Dalish Origin For Dragon Age 3

I could see some mages taking refuge with the Dalish which might bring them into the conflict. Or the Dalish could send our hero out to learn more about the conflict and how it might affect them, only to get embroiled in it themselves...

I'd like to get through one Dragon Age game that doesn't have the option to slaughter a bunch of elves, Dalish or otherwise. At this rate the entire race will be extinct by Dragon Age 5.
I like that it was an option in Origins, an evil one at that. In DA2 it kind of just happens...without prior knowledge it was just on a coin toss if you are force to kill them all or not.

I think that our class/spec will become our "origin" more in this game. Similar to how it worked in DA2.

Yeah I know what you mean. I don't want another Hawke but if we had to play as a human again having different classes be the origins would be the best they could do.Arokel wrote...
I would love to play as a Dalish again but I do not think that it will happen. We will probably be limited to just human again.

That was one of the sad things about DA2. There was a lot of potential for the classes to affect the story significantly. This was especially true with the mage. Sadly the development time was way too short.

Dalish Mage should have been in DAO. Don't know why they didn't add it.
There is a mod for that.

Yeah the mage I expected to have a lot more of an impact in DA2. A few dialogue changes but that's it. Oh and you got stuck with CarverArokel wrote...

Well, yeah I know that. But still, it would have made sense to include it.

I liked much more the City Elf. And when my City Elf find the Dalish, they where so arrogant that in my second game, with my Dwarf, i killed them all. And Hawke slayed the other in DA2 (sorry, my Dalish Elf forgotten...) But a Dalish Elven Mage could be a bonus for me...and a excuse to make, finally, a PG Mage. If there are cutest tatoo.
i still liked more the City Elf, but in the end i just want those pointed ears!

I would love a Dalish origin.
I imagine they would still need the accent, so I'd set the origin originally during childhood. Have the clan attacked like the OP suggests. Then skip forward x number of years and show how the young Dalish has grown up in the Orlesian Chantry system. It would be like when anglos in North America would go out and force young Native American kids to learn English and accept Christianity at native boarding schools.
The young Dalish abductee eventually grows up and then you play the point at which they first distinguish themselves in some kind of crisis under Chantry supervision. From there we got to the start of the common game and we see our Dalish made Inquisitor and you can roleplay them as fully indoctrinated or secretly anti-Chantry and pro-Dalish or anywhere in between.

That would be interesting. Being a Dalish who grew up in the Chantry. Having both religious views but deciding which of the 2 your character belives.cindercatz wrote...
edit: The Dalish fully accepted my City Elf. You just have to understand their situation, and you can make yours clear. Then they'll teach you about how some of them were born City Elves and various cultural bits that are relevant to a city elf. The First girl wasn't even born with the tribe.
I would love a Dalish origin.

It may be too much of a coincidence but it's fairly justifiable for the most part. If we do get a Dalish PC in DA3, I expect it will be a member from the existing clans as opposed to a new one. Probably "different" due to history and/or background, but from the same clans nonetheless.Faerunner wrote...
I'd like to be from a new clan though. Like with Hawke's Amell connection, I think it's too much of a coincidence that each Hero in the first two (possibly three) DA games happen to run into the same two clans over and over. (Marethari's and Zathrien's/Lanaya's, that is.) If we get a familiar clan, I'd like it to be Velanna's.
Additionally, I imagine the Dalish won't play a huge role in DA3 anyway, but having the Inquisitor be one (optionally) could even things out a bit, the apparent insignificance of the Dalish notwithstanding.

I don't think the Dalish will play a big role either but there is an oppurtunity for them to involve themselves and become a bigger part.Fiery Phoenix wrote...

Apart from the relative screen time, I do think the Dalish should have a very important role. I can see a number of ways they could play in. You've still got the mage issue, and I'd imagine the Dalish would come down on the pro-mage side of things once the conflict finds them. Then you've got the oppurtunity from their perspective to establish a stronger presence in southern Thedas, maybe actually win a homeland again. There's a lot that can be done.
I agree. There is so much potential for the Dalish in DA3. Plus no matter what if you recruit the elves in DA:O they get land in Fereldan for their part stopping the blight whether you were a Dalish Warden or not. I would like to see what happened there. Alistair in DA2 said that it didn't go as planned so...
I agree.Exactly.
I think it's a perfect example of how origins and race selection could work together to add quite a lot to the game in a totally organic way. I don't think there's any reason to exclude either aside from where the devs' priorities might be, and they can add just a mountain of value to any given playthrough.
