Did being an Amell in DAO change anything in DA2 barring a few lines?

I was wondering if this is possible, because I have a Human Male Mage from DAO and since Hawke is an Amell from his mother's side, that would make them cousins if not somewhat related.

Hawke's mother, Leandra, and the Hero's father were cousins -- that makes Hawke and the Hero second cousins.

I'm sure there is a possibility the PC in DA3 could have a relation to the Amells -- they're a big family, right? And powerful. Why wouldn't there be Orlesian Amells, and why wouldn't it be possible one of those could be the PC in DA 3?

Bah, I was an Amell Warde and I was extremely disappointed they gave my character a family. I preferred being able to headcanon stuff like that.

I get what OP is saying, having a sort of family tradition of Amells saving Thedas (or ruining Kirkwall) would be fun, if optional. Definitely not a game breaker or anything.

The idea of the protagonist being distantly related to anyone from the previous two games is kinda cool, but I get the desire to have a brand new blank slate hero with no attachments to anyone we already know.

That would place DA3 some 8-10 years after DA2 -- too long, imo. That could be a plausible option for DA4, though.

They could make him age faster due to being an old god....They can do what they want with something like that honestly - since its a first for the series.

Is it suddenly canon that the Dark Ritual was performed? Someone should let my dead Dalish Ranger know.

I'd prefer the protagonist be someone new; the relation was pretty cool, but if it continues to happen it could become tired.

My female city elf warden will be surprised, and more than a little confused if Morrigan turns out to have had her babies.

I think we've had enough of the Amells.

Hell, I played a Cousland in DAO, and I don't even want the Inquisitor to be related to my Warden.

Start anew, rather than being biased towards one Origin story from DAO.

If any DA3 protagonist is related to DA:O Wardens, I'd actually like it to be the City Elf Warden. Between Adaia, Shianni, Soris (when he needs to be brave) and the Warden, that family turns out pretty consistently brave, spirited, capable people. Since city elves tend to have very extensive families that intermarry between alienages, it would be pretty easy to explain the connection away.

That's precisely opposite my feelings on important blood relation in Dragon Age.  Success makes boring company in computer games.  I would like to see a protagonist related to the Baroness (from Blackmarsh, if you recall DAA) or the de Launcet family.  Now those bring up interesting futures!
