At least they're in no danger of running out of sexism on the BSN.

Remember folks;
good game = sexism, bigotry (none of which is EVER fanservice for straight, male gamers)
bad game = equality, representation, good writing (all of which is cheap tawdry fanservice towards us... raging queer ladies? IDK)

Every time someone dismisses Dragon Age's setting as fan service for not hating on women and queer people, all I read is "Waaah, fanservice is awful when it's aimed at people who aren't me!"

Off topic: So the Witcher 2 is sexist because it has good looking and provocatively dressed women and because the main character is a man who is struggling with nihilism, and is trying to find some meaning or purpose in the world other than death; because his life revolves around killing monsters for people in a world who hate him just because of what he is, and those who don't try to use him for their own agendas?
So the sexism comes in because the player can choose to be a nihilistic ****** who doesn't care about anyone or anything in the game(exemplified by the way he treats women in regard to sex, and any other race in the game, in regard to rights and liberties)? Other than his three closest friends.

On topic: I don't mind them showing a little skin, or slightly modifying the armor to make it a little more sensual. I mean it's fantasy, the Fellowship of the Ring survived Moria with nothing but cloaks and shirts. That being said I hate over the top stuff, I don't need to see 75%-80% of a woman's skin to know she's attractive, or even 50% for that matter.

It could be fun to have more conversations playing with this sort of confusion (a bit like in the legend of Aveline told by Leliana, or like in the Dwarf Commoner origin where the main protagonist hides the casteless' tatoos under a helmet.)

What kind of world do you live in where "not included" is the same thing as "hated?"

Not the real one, that's for sure.

Bioware not including something doesn't mean they "hate" that group.

Where did I state that "not included" is the same as "hate"? Do you know what argument I'm referring to? I have talked to people, on many occasions, who think Dragon Age is unrealistic and thus bad for not including rampant misogyny and homophobia in its setting.

I'm sorry, I was actually thinking about something someone else said here.

I would like to point out, however, that if Bioware DID include those things, again, that doesn't mean they hate anyone.

I was talking about Dragon Age's setting itself, not Bioware. For example, ASOIAF has a misogynistic setting - one that "hates on women", if you will - but that doesn't mean that I think GRRM hates women for creating it.

What's really frustrating is that a lot of the rampant misogyny in the gaming industry isn't exactly satisfying or beneficial for a lot of straight white CIS (etc etc etc) men, either. The vocal minority is just very vocal in it's fear of women and queer people.

The Dragon Age games do tackle some forms of bigotry like racism, classism, religious oppression, etc. But they're, for the most part, deliberately included and explored. They've already made the decision to not have gender or sexuality based oppression in DA world (with mixed results). Every step they can take to show that equality isn't fanservice - it's good writing and much needed representation.

I'm pretty sure Bioware has got this kind of thing covered. They're not about to alienate half their fanbase.
