I really liked that in DA2, every party member had a specialization that was unique to them. It encouraged me to experiment with all of them, and it makes sense (at least to me) that diferent individuals would have their own talents to bring to the table.

But on the flipside, if one of the party members for DA3 is a Templar (just as an example) would that mean the Templar specialization is not available to the player character? Would that be acceptable to you, the player? Or would you rather that party member not have access to Templar-relevant abilities despite the nature of their character?

It depends on the specialization.

For something like Templar, I would want to be able to spec my Warrior into it, since that's been an option in the last 2 games and Templars are a pretty big deal in Dragon Age.

If one of them had a specialization called "Knight" I wouldn't be terribly upset by not being able to spec into it myself.

I would be okay with there being 2 different Templar specs, one for the companion and one for you. I imagine that not every Templar knows the exact same set of skills anyway, right?

It would work just like Isabella's skill tree in DA2, it's 'basically' just the duelist specialization, but has it's own unique pirate theme. Thus a Templar character, say, one from Orlais or something, would probably have a templar skill tree but with a french theme. Something along those lines. The character specific specialization was one of the best things about DA2 in my opinion.

meh Whatever...I'm just hoping we could at least add another specialization to our companions like we did in Origins

Just like Anders was Spirit Healer, Merrill was Blood Mage, Fenris was Reaver and etc.
Although they did have some unique powers.

Assuming that unique specialization is not shapeshifter or ranger, sure.

I would like companions to have there own unique skill trees again.
If a companion is a Templer, that companion should have a different verson of the Templer specialisation, than the one I use.

Unique specializations for companions would be nice so long as the heal spec isn't restricted to one companion or a god spec isn't restricted to one companion. It annoyingly punishes people who don't want to use that companion.

A little more complex than that, actually. Merril was blood mage/keeper, The "Vengeance" side of Anders's tree was very blood mage-like. Fenris was a spirit warrior, Aveline's Guardian came from the Guardian spec in Awakening.
For the most part it was just a unique twist on old specs, which I wouldn't mind seeing return. Makes more sense than making anybody any spec anyhow.

Unique specs are fine but the skill trees in general need to be greatly expanded upon.

But it took away the element of personalization and gave you a preset version of the character. Sure, a rouge should always be a rouge but I want to decide if it uses dual wielding, sword and shield or a bow/crossbow.
As long as the skill tree gives us the chance to pick the talents we want from the character then it's fine with me if some of them are unique to one character.

This was one of the things I really liked about DA:2, how our companions hade their own versions of the "regular" specializations.

Please do not limit their skill trees, though. I hated not having any other healer than Anders.

I like companion specializations but want them to make sense with the character as they did in 2.

I would also like for the protagonist's specializations to make sense. In DA2 Hawke could become a reaver, a templar, a blood mage and many others completely randomly. You didn't optain then like in DA:O so it made sense, and even some in DA:O you only read about in books.

You could headcanon that Isabela ahres her dueling or Merrill her blood magic, but it would be really nice if it could be implemented with NPC's like Isabela or Kolgrim in DA:O

Anders didn't have any blood mage powers.

Martyr lets him sacrifice health to gain mana. Blood magic just cuts out the middleman, but is basically the same thing.

I don't mind the unique specs but all characters should have access to all the base trees of their class.
