I realize that with the announcement of the mass effect reboot there will most likely be a new protagonist along with a new crew and new LI. This new crew is likely to include a asari as they are one of the most well traveled species in the mass effect universe. My fear is not what this new mass effect game might entail story wise, I'm ready for anything, but about a new Asari crewmember/li in particular. Will this...can this new Asari live up to...Liara? How do you dupicate the beauty, charm and intellect of...Liara?

Could I ever grow to care for this Asari on the same level as...Liara? Could I romance and hold this Asari without thoughts and want of liara dancing in the back of my mind? Could she ever purge and replace...Liara from my thoughts? I'm holding on to hope that since...Liara is only a century old and can live for up to a thousand years that she'll somehow find her way back to me but am I hoping for too much?  When I think of that blue eyed freckled blue berry, I...I just don't know about this new mass effect anymore... -_-

Bioware has many wonder workers in the literary department but my faith is on thin ice when it comes to this particular subject.

Oh Liara....<3:crying:

Of course another Asari can replace Liara. I'd say Liara is one of the more easily replaceable squaddies, you could never replace Garrus.

A bro-character who makes one-liners and constantly goes 'just like old times'?

Replace? No. Be a different character to fill a different but equal niche within the story? Yes.

This post is about as subjective as it gets. If you dislike or are indifferent to a character, of course they'll be easy to replace. If you're more attached, then the inverse is true. A thread like this is pointless other than to garner who likes which character.

I like Aria. She has an edge.

Liara is my favorite as well. Any new asari will probably be opposite her personality, but still endlessly compared to the great Liara

Samara quite easily beats liara, and morinth has more personality in her cameo's than liara in all 3 games

I'm with Xil and Dean on this. Archetypes can always be filled. If you remade the story with different characters, you could probably still do it.

Replacing her in the current story wouldn't work, because you already had those moments with her, you could try, but it wouldn't work with a large body of players.

Oh dear, how will we ever replace a needy Mary Sue creepezoid from a race of generic blue space babes?

I found samara hypocritical and inflexible. She also had the annoying habit of attempting to tell me what to do.

No I don't need asari mom on my ship

Samara Dammit! Now that I have that out of my system, I could see Liara taking on a role similar to Theresa, from the Fable series, in later ME games.

Definitely, and I like what Liara represents well enough.

There are a ton of interesting directions they could take the biotic powers, tweaked moral outlook, and mental prowess of a new asari companion beyond what we've seen, if the writers take the plunge.

I have to say, I didn't find Liara all that interesting when I played through Mass Effect 1, but she grew on me in Mass Effect 2 (especially in LOtSB, where she became significantly more badass) and definitely in ME3. My Shepard really bonded with her in those games (in the end, I started feeling regretful about turning her down to rekindle his relationship with Ashley), and she became one of his best friends. Few other moments can come close to the time capsule scene, which is one of the most touching in the game.

Could I have another Asari on my ship in a Mass Effect game? Sure, but it definitely would not be the same.

I didn't like Liara in ME1, but she grew on me. Take the place of? Yes. Replace? No.
