The only story DLC a new copy of Mass Effect 2 on PS3 is missing is Arrival.  This DLC is meant to act as a bridge story wise between Mass Effect's 2 and 3.This DLC will not show up in your journal unless you have downloaded it.  Arrival is best played, story wise, after you have actually completed the main plot line in ME2.

If you like ME2 and want more of it and/or plan on importing your Shepard into ME3 I would get Arrival.  Also, the Mass Effect Trilogy pack was recently anounced.  It will eventually come out on PS3 and will include the first Mass Effect game that was previously unavailable on the PS3.

I'm a fellow PS3 player. If you intend to play it right now, then download the Genesis DLC. This will allow you to make the most important decisions in the game (From ME1) so you at least have some ramifications in ME2. For example, the Virmire decision (Ash or Kaidan) is included, also choosing to romance Liara or Ashley or leaving them unromanced, is part of it too. Once you download it you will see. All other ME2 DLC is included right away from the Disk (Zaeed's, Stolen Memories "Kasumi" and Lair of the Shadow Broker "Liara's inclusion into ME2)

What DLC is included in the Mass Effect Trilogy?

  • On PC, Mass Effect will include Bring Down the Sky and Pinnacle Station on disk. For Mass Effect 2, Cerberus Network will be included which features Zaeed – The Price of Revenge, The Firewalker Pack, Cerberus Assault Gear, Arc Projector heavy weapon, and Normandy Crash site mission. For Mass Effect 3, Online Pass will be included granting players access to co-op multiplayer.
  • On Xbox 360, Bring Down the Sky and Pinnacle Station are not included with Mass Effect, however they are available as stand-alone downloads through Xbox LIVE. For Mass Effect 2, Cerberus Network will be included and Online Pass will be included for Mass Effect 3.
  • Information on PlayStation 3 DLC will be available soon.
Will the original Mass Effect be available as a standalone game on PlayStation 3?
  • YES the original Mass Effect will be available as a standalone digital title through the PlayStation Network for $14.99. It will release the same day as the Mass Effect Trilogy on PlayStation 3.

Hope this helps.

New player? My heart skipped a beat...Like a little newborn baby...

*Cough* Excuse my creepiness.

In my opinion, there isn't a right or wrong way to play Mass Effect, which is one of the main things that makes the game unique and amazing. You want that person dead? When you get the option, shoot him in cold blood! You don't like the way that person talked to you? Treat them like dirt. I mean, you can choose what to do, mostly. Obviously there's going to be a few things you can't decide, but that doesn't hinder the game at all. Wow. Just read what I said. Over-emotional?

Anyway, it's an amazing trio of games. Hope that helps at all. I think I answered your question to the best of my abilities, but I got lost in my own words. Anyway, if you have any questions, don't hesitate to message me or something. I can try to help to the best of my abilities. Hope there wasn't any spoilers. My examples were just things off of the top of my head.

As for DLC, I find Arrival and Lair of The Shadow Broker to be the most relevant, story-wise. As already mentioned, Arrival is a bridge to Mass Effect 3. And Lair of The Shadow Broker...Well, I just found that DLC to be great. Buying it while playing should still make it appear in your Journal. But if you have the chance to, you should download it before beginning the game, if you can.

If you can contain yourself that long I'd wait until Nov when you can download ME1 and get the story from the beginning. Genesis would let you have the first part in summary form with most of the major decisions made as you read it but the release of the first game for PS3 makes it kind of obsolete unless you want to save the hours an ME1 playthrough would take. Have fun - lots of replay potential. Just began ME1again myself with a class I'd never used before.

Currently no release has been set for the U.K.  I do not live in the U.K., but I believe most new relases are priced at 40 GBP.  60 USD is the standard price for a new release in the U.S., so whatever the price for a new game is in the U.K. I would think the trilogy set would be at that.  I have no idea what ME1 would be on the PlayStation store in British Pounds.

You can only import characters forward to the next game in the series.  The character you make in ME2 would only be importable into ME3.  If you make a character in ME1 you can import that character into ME2 and then on into ME3.  The ability to import your Shepard from game to game is a big part of the series.

I'd also have to agree with PsiFive.  Playing the trilogy from the first game through to the third is alot better than starting off with ME2 in my opinion.  The first game really helps set up the Mass Effect universe and lets you get to know some ot the characters that will become more important in the later games.

I am too new to the Mass Effect universe but have recently started ME1 and if you want my advice, I'd say hold out for the collection. You would be missing out on SO much back story by missing the first part and I personally can't wait to see how all my decisions pan out in the following parts. That's part of the fun.

agggh : ) theres no set date in the UK for realease only USA has the nov date but if europe misses in the 2012 period for the trilogy they(Bio wear,EA) will be losing a lot of money from the christmas period , so i think it will be here before christmas as the devs are not stupid and they probably know this IMPO - But as for my mass effect trilogy goes im probably gonna buy them single.
