During my first playthrough of Dragon Age 2, I brought both Bethany and Anders to the deep roads with me. When I asked Anders if there was anything he could do to save her, he told me no, yet every forum post I see instructs simply to bring both of them with you to cure her sickness. There must be more to it, or she would not have died. Does anyone have any ideas?

Having both of them in the party should allow you to save Bethany. While you can't cure her, Anders will lead you to the Grey Wardens which she will join.

The "cure" is for Bethany to join the Wardens.

After Bethany becoming sick and before returning to Kirkwall, there should have been another scene where you fight some darkspawn and meet the Grey Wardens who take her away.

If you've done everything correctly and she still dies, you must have triggered some glitch. A reload should work.

*I just saw this scene after taking Bethany to the Deep Roads and she looks scary with the blight sickness, and reminded me of Leandra.  Carver didn't look anywhere near as bad.

Sorry if it bugged out on ya. I hate losing gaming time to a corrupt file, or something else. My first play thru my sibling died in Deep Roads. The second playthru I took Carver, only to discover with Anders along you get to save them. I had intended to kill him off, but decided to check out that line of conversation.

I just did the "Finding Nathaniel" quest and it seemed like Bethany was about to break down and cry when talking about the taint in her blood. I just went this route during my pro-templar playthrough so Bethany wouldn't be in the circle during the annulment. I definitely prefer her as a circle mage when siding with the mages, as she seems happiest, and she later becomes free of the circle without having the darkspawn taint.

hmm.... interesting point. i have never tried leaving either bethany or carver behind. bethany died during my first playthrough, which sucked. i left it that way because i always let my mistakes be my mistakes the first time through (which is also why my rogue got stuck with anders, bleh!!). the second time i played, i brought carver with me, and the third time, i brought bethany. i made them both wardens. i am curious as to how things would play out if i left them behind. i know that he joins the templars and she joins the circle, but it would still be interesting to see. if i decide to replay at some point in the future, i'll have to try that. thanks for the input!!
