Why are we forced to play as the most boring race?

-Human Noble was the most boring Origin Story. Literally every other Origin was fantastic and I'd put HN as good at best.
-There isn't any flair to being a human.
-We are humans in our every day life. Why be one in a video game?
Seriously. Why?
This is assuming we are forced into being a human. If thats not the case I will be pleasently surprised, and proceed to jump back on the BioWare train.
This is purely opinion based but I'd say the Dalish Elf Origin was the most boring origin.
I don't think any of the races are boring. They're all locked in their own power struggles and beliefs. It's rather well done on BioWare's part. Neither do I feel that because I'm human I don't want to be human in video games. And finally I'd like to see a return to picking the PC's race. But I want to pick my own race entirely because it's fun to be a different race from time to time and not because I like one less or more than another.
Although, for honesty's sake.... I do tend to play Dwarf more than the other two races... and human more so than Elf. And I only like playing City Elf when I play elf... and always as a female because it's awesome being the Bride in a blood splattered wedding dress killing racist humans and finally killing Vaughan.
Or taking his deal.
I've taken the deal before. It's... that was a really fun play through. That character would make those kinds of choices and then regret them whenever possible. Always failing to live up to her own ideals and being haunted by her choices.
I like DA:O a lot.

One of the reasons is for cinematic affect and less workload.
By having the player set as human, they can work all their camera shots knowing exactly where the head will be.
Having different races, lets say elves, dwarves and humans means they would need to have three camera locations for each scene or run the risk of the character being blocked in an important scene or go back to a very static generic camera angle (which I am actually fine with if anyone is asking and indeed prefer).
The other is voice.
By having a set race they can have a fully voiced character (Shepard, Hawke etc) - otherwise to do that would require 6 separate voice actors for Human, Elf, Dwarf. You would also need to have a greater amount of dialogue for the player character taking their race into affect.
It would be a crazy amount of work (although I would prefer a non voiced player character - but thats just me) - and when analytics (which I think are ruining entertainment) are saying the majority are playing as humans - it probably ends up being low on priority and they can use their resources elsewhere.
Finally framed narrative - you can have a more focused and structred story if the player character is only ever going to be human.
Pretty much these reasons, but I'd like to add two more:
1. By and large, humans were the most played race in DAO. And while you or I may think that including other races is a definite plus, I can understand from a development point of view how it may seem reasonable to some that the option to play as another race is wasted resources given the very limited amount of people who used the option, and that those resources would be better spent elsewhere.
2. Most players are human. Many people need a human or near-human race to help them roleplay or to connect to the universe. Therefore, a human or near-human race will ALWAYS be included as an option, and if it comes down to only having the ability to provide the player with one race, that race will be humans. Every. Time.

Where exactly is the flair about being short or having pointy ears? Big deal.

This is just laughable. I guess as a "human in our every day life" you can also do magic or go around fighting dragons and demons?

I, on the other hand, am sick to the teeth of elves and dwarves in general. I would be content to see them erased from the fantasy genre altogether. We've been ripping off Tolkien for over half a century now, enough is enough.
I like playing human. I like to create a character who's as like me as possible.

None.
Varric's VA would have fit any of those. So would Fenris'. And Aveline's. And Athenril's.
I'm rarely so blunt about stuff, but seriously, that is one of the silliest arguments I've ever read on the forums. Every VA is human in real life, though they voice elves, dwarves, and kossith too.

Not really. There is no rule which says one person cannot voice all different races. And as for me I´m fine with that as long as I get races and origins.

If I remember correctly you can put that cook in her place just as easily. I don't remember the exact dialogue but I remember doing it once for my "Mean Little **** Entitled Prince" run.

Whoa, relax their floss.
It was one reason among many - not the be all and end all.
Generally, and I use that term very generally, elves are higher pitched and talk faster, dwarves are deeper and more gruff, kossith are much slower and more deliberate in their voice.
Its not a be all and end all for sure - but I think its definitely something that would be looked at as something to be considered - since that one voice would be used across multiple races - it would have to straddle a pretty fine line.

Do you play your own gender in a video game? If so, how come? You're your gender every day in real life.
(also human noble was one of the best origins. Probably second only to city elf.)

It would be a problem if they stuck to theirsillyaccent conventions, but those restrictions are inconsistent and of their own making anyway.
Yeah, like you're (I think) alluding to, there are ways around those. Since a city elf and a surfacer dwarf from the same country would pick up the accent used by the humans who live there. A kossith may be harder, but a long-time Tal Vashoth could have relaxed the brusqueness over time.
Someone from the Free Marches (outside of Starkhaven, I suppose) would even share the same accent as the Orzammar dwarves. So there are ways.
(explanation intended for anyone interested, and not necessarily Upsettingshorts, who seems to *get it*)

yeah, I really should have let you know that I didn't intend that with any animosity towards you --- I've seen that argument a lot, and it always frustrates and baffles me. Such a silly reason to keep out (what I feel is) the coolest part of the franchise.

Whether that should be a deal-breaker for the HN origin or not is a debate you'd have to take up with Xilizhra. I thought it did a lot to illustrate for the player what was obviously a social norm in Thedas, whether we liked it or not.
That said, you're coming across as pretty rude. That's not going to win you any respect around here.
