If you pick Destroy with a high EMS, Shepard survives.

Agonal respiration does not equate to survival.

Open end ending mean I, you or anyone can imagine the results of that last moment with Shepard.
AKA, if I say he is alive , i'm right. If you say he's dead, your right.
With subjective things, there never is only one truth.

I think Chris (Priestly) said it best:

Chris Priestly wrote...

If he lives, he is alive and if he dies he is not. There are 2 interpretations of that breath. Either it is Shepard's first breath after recovering, or it is Shepard's last breath before dying.

Personally, I think that scene suggests Shepard survived.

My Shepard survived, yours probably didn't though.

My Shepard > your Shepard.

Don't you guys just HATE that scene with the Normandy taking off right before the credits? It's pretty clear that they run out of fuel halfway back to Earth, or wherever they're going, and then crash into a sun or something. This is FACTS! So depressing!

I don't give two craps about the Normandy.

Me neither man. Especially not the people on board you spent three games getting to know.

So this. So, so this. ^_^

Popping in to throw my own +1 on this post. So true.

Honestly, when Commander Shepard has already died once -- a sacrifical death, nonetheless, to save Joker -- any sort of sacrificial death scene afterwards feels redundant and tarnished. If they hadn't gone that route in ME2, maybe the Final Sacrifice scene would have felt different. Instead it just feels like... extra drama. Whereas surviving -- being wholly ready to sacrifice yourself and SURVIVING -- means a whole lot, *particularly* in light of the fact that you've already sacrificed yourself before and, presented with the choice yet again, you still make the same decision. That's pretty darn meaningful.

Breath scene: If it can go either way then what's the point of having it at all? The intention is there to show he's alive IMO, I just find it leaves a little nagging doubt at the back of my mind (because I instinctively question) and find it very unsatisfying. Personally I'd remove the Stargazer and breath scenes and put something slightly more definite in its place - a hand reaches down to pull him out of the rubble, his hand reaches up to grab it. Still might croak in hospital I suppose. Well, I'd really like a lot more than that but feel that that might be a decent compromise.

Shepard lives but is in dire need of medical attention. I have hope that a future Citadel DLC reveals a rescue of Shepard and a reunion.

Its entirely possible AND the endings remain the same.

Cake for everyone!!!! Hip Hip Hooray! Shepard lives another day!

... too heavy on the cheesiness?

I don't know how a happier ending can be accused of utter cheesiness when the endings we currently have feature our LI clutching our death plaques and giving other crew members feelie hugs! ;)

Also there is a very cute slide of Wrex and Eve holding their Krogan baby- and even in the Sythesis ending the baby has green glowing Synthesis eyes. If that isn't cheesy I don't know what is.

Having some cake to go along with a happier ending seems about right :D

It's almost as if capitulating to a computer error doesn't make people feel like they won.

Who saw that coming?

What does it matter if people did not see it coming? Know one even knew whay the reapers did what they did before.

The point of the ending was to point out there really is no inherit good or evil.

They introduce a last minute character that doesn't understand morality, and suddenly there's no such thing as good or evil? Pfft.

Defeating the Enemy of Freedom and Self-Determination is empowering and uplifting and emotionally evocative.

Compromising with a computer error is completely lame. Way to pull the rug out from under the cause, dudez. It's like I gathered Rohan and Gondor and the elves together outside the gates of Mordor, and Sauron appeared and said "I iz computer, I fix world, pick red blue or green."

NO I WILL NOT PICK A COLOR, I CAME TO DEFEAT EVIL. I DO NOT WANT TO HEAR THE NAZGUL WERE JUST TRYING TO HELP ME AFTER ALL.

You know, I bet Sauron would at least have the courtesy of appearing to me as the Flaming Eye and not a holochild from my PTSD dreams.

Oh Lolol! The Nazgul reference is brilliant!

Any more like that? I'll do one.
Reapers are like... the borg. Are the Borg the universes friend? "Look kids here come the Borg! Get ready to ascend to a higher level! It will hurt, but then... no pain, no gain.

edit: phone typos and fast fill are painful. My Razor droid needs an upgrade.

You only need 3100 to get the breath scene, so with over 5000 you'll be fine.

"That's Shepard's last breath!"

That doesn't sound like a last breath to me. That sounds like a "waking up from unconsciousness" breath. I never understood that speculation.

Destroy destroys all synthetics.

Shepard is partially synthetic. The part of his/her brain that controls memory almost has to be synthetic (after ME2). Even if he/she did survive, it may not be them anymore.

it destroys synthetic life, which is not

shepard is an organic with implants

And wipe out all the hobbits, I suppose. Well that's okay, at least we did what we set out to do: save the Shire.

OH WAIT NO WE DIDN'T.

No, no, we'll have to think of something else then. Perhaps we could pick the blue ending -- you become the new Sauron, but you use the One Ring to build carpool lanes and sh*t, and your Flaming Eye turns a lovely cerulean color!

No, still not right, still not right -- oh! Oh! Green! Turn everyone into half person, half Nazgul! This way, there will be peace! Sauron said so, it must be right.

Whenever he asks to watch football, do you just say yes?
No GTFO and watch it at the pub so I can play something I spent £40 on?

1. When has ME ever shown there is anything inherityl good or evil? ME has always been gray.
2.Comprimsing with a compter in erroe show their is not inhertite good or evil. There was never any one truely good or evil in the series.
3.The thingyoumissing is that you can defet the reaper, you have to make an extreme choice to do so. And that is inheit with all wars. You problem is niot the catalyst or the colors. It that fact you don't want to comprimise. Taht is not how life is.

ME has not Sauron and never will.

I'm not doing that to my man! lol He's ok with me staying up late at night and gaming- but we're opposites. He likes sports and outdoors and I like books, computers, cooking and gaming. We both agree on beer and wine

But yeah his football schedule kills my gaming sometimes- but marriage is compromise ;)

I think I'm going to finish my Paragon/Destroy; Shepard survives ending today!

You mean, jokes aside?

If I ever play ME3 again, I will roll Destroy. Not because I'm happy with it, though. It just seems like the lesser evil. Even then, the ending isn't satisfying. The Catalyst is still a last minute character who disrupts the dramatic momentum, Shepard is still too credulous when talking to it, all this pain and death and free will subversion was still just the result of a computer mishap, EDI and the geth still die unmourned and unmentioned, the Catalyst still talks Shepard into offing him/herself in 3.5/4 endings, and the climax of the space opera still shifts the series theme from "you make your own fate" to "you choose which fate the enemy gives you, and then die." Oh, and I still never found Miranda, I suppose.

There are people out there who are completely okay with all this, which is fine. I just won't ever be one of them.
