So I was reading some threads about romance and just thought that I haven't seen a desirable romance ( for myself, of course ) for a huge time now, and while we are at it, well..
I played through Dragon age series and Mass effect series, Jade empire and earlier through NWN series, and I can never seem to come across this "simbiosis" of qualities that I crave for in a romancable character.

So I tend to like "dark" characters, aka Morrigan, Jack ( subject zero ), Morinth, just to name a few examples for a general idea. But then for some reason this being dark thing ALWAYS comes in a bunndle with not being serious about sex, for some odd reason.

So I am going to ask 2 things:
1) Is it impossible for a character to be outgoing and fun in a dark way, ( crazy, violent kinda.. )  AND take sex seriously ( like Alistar ) at the same time?
2) Do you personally know any game out there that has such characters included?

Yeah, and maybe some desirable romances have been escaping you too through out the years? Feel free to share. :)

1) and 2) Valen in NeverWinter Nights, maybe? Though that was before actual sex was injected into the character relationships, LOL. EDIT: I also thought Anders (in his DA2 carnation) qualifies as everything you listed, definietly dark and crazy and definitely takes the having a commited serious relationship thing to heart. But again, that's a guy and it sounds like you're looking for a female who also embodies those traits which, upon reflection, does seem to be harder to find.

Anyway, I can respect your opinion, though I will say I can't relate to it. As a straight female who tends to only want to play straight female characters (probably the relatability thing, plus kickass women characters are just awesome in general), I've always been super happy with the romance options in BioWare games. In fact, it's almost ridiculous how on-spot they are with giving me warm happy feels with the LI options, LOL. I do think I understand what you are saying, though. Dark and crazy in these games tend to be equated with ****y/evil/promiscuous LIs, particularly if they are female LIs.

P.S. I'm not saying everyone should make the PC choices I do, I just feel like maybe I fall into a certain segment of the player demographic that has been especially--and skillfully--catered to. I can see how others might feel differently.

Are you sure you talked to Jack enough? She seems to be right up your alley.

Oh, hey there long time no see.

And no, sadly she is not. See not cheating and viewing sex seriously are different things. Isabela for example, can be a serious romance in DA2, but she doesn't take sex all that seriously. Same with Jack, she would do a renegade Shepard without a second though in ME2.

Oh wow, DKain. I didn't recognise your new name xD Did you get banned or something? o_o

Jack having sex with people doesn't at all seem to be what she is happy doing. She's looking for happiness and finds herself unable to grasp it. Once she's shown "the light," her tune changes. I suppose you could say that she is the character you're looking for, however at the beginning of the game she doesn't know it herself. She comes to realise it later, however.

Considering that she refuses to talk to Shepard ever again if you go for that option, I'd say she takes sex far more seriously than you give her credit for. She offers it as a way to test if Shepard is the shallow, hormone-driven scumbag she expects him to be. If he'll be the one who will actually show her some basic respect and human decency, decline, and work to form a proper relationsihp first. And she's clearly bitterly disappointed when you accept her offer and fail to prove yourself the better man she hopes you are.

But anyway, DA3 may actually be the perfect opportunity for you to find your desired LI. Maker knows Templars would take sex very seriously since they rarely get any, and if we get two companions representing opposite sides of the Mage-Templar conflict then the Templar companion is unlikely to be a basket of roses.

As for my own ideal LI... I'd like a less damaged version of Zevran. He was basically everything I could hope for in a LI: nearly unimaginably strong, a sense of humor, neither prudish about sex nor anything less than deadly serious about love, has seen the worst the world has to offer and come out of it mostly sane, capable of stunning levels of loyalty, and even if his moral compass didn't exactly point north it still came pretty damn close for someone with his past. But he was also terrible with emotions. I'd like someone very similar to Zevran, but who knows his/her own mind. Someone who doesn't need to rely on the PC for personal growth. A post-Warden Zevran, if you will. Slightly less macabre tastes would also be appreciated. And that's funny, because it sounds like I'm describing Isabela when I never even considered persuing her as a LI. To this day I don't understand why Zevran just about had me at hello while Isabela is absolutely not my cup of tea :/
