So we've all had those fun discussion about day 1 DLC had how (!)awesome it is. How the pre orders need to get something in order to jusitfy it, how the CE should get DLC packaged, how standarard editions bought after the fact should just deal with having to pay more to play the same amount in game. You get the idea. Super fun topics.

Anyways heres my proposal.

We love Thedas. You love Thedas. We like the codex and the side stories and the background info. You like making that type of stuff(Or at least some of you).

So instead of worrying abotu the DLC headache go back to game manuals. No, not the bull**** 5 page manual you get on the inside of the console package. I mean the cool, book like game manuals.

You known the type. A Link to the Past had the ancient myth of the goddesses, Ganon being sealed and a monster codex. Blizzard games have had short stories telling you about different clans, factions, leaders. Tachyon: The Fringe(best space sim of all time) had a mini history lesson leading you from present day to the current space age(PS NASA was late, space station was supposed to be done in 2004), it covered characters, factions, mysterious sectors. Hell they even had a pamphlet detailing all the major ships in the game so you could get excitited about what you may one day be flying.

Have one of those be the CE/Pre order special and standard editons can download it in pdf form or something. Sure throw in a skin pack or two, but I think having something solid to read, thats in your hands, the odd time your sitting in town/ camp would be awesome.

I think it's a great idea! Personally, I'd like if we could have a real-life codex, but it would probably be filled with spoilers.

Ignore Emzamination, this is a pretty good idea.

Oh, wow, old school. I totally remember when that was just standard. Otherwise you probably wouldn't know where to even begin in a game, LOL.

...now I feel old. Awww. Anyway, fun idea. I wonder if that's cost effective anymore? Even with Pre-Order pricing.

When I preorder a CE, I want more value in the game itself. I'm not overtly opposed to game books or other trinkets, but on the whole I'd rather not have them. They just clutter up my house.

I partly agree. I think that you should get DLC for CE/Pre-order etc. but I also think you should get DLC out of the box for new purchases as an insentive to buy new. and I don't just mean some bullsh*t "online pass". in DA1 we got DLC in the box (Shale/Blood Dragon Armour). in DA2 we got DLC in the box ( the Black Emporium and Dog). in ME2 we got DLC in the box ( the Cerberus Pack,+Zaeed). Then for ME3 we got. nothing. nadda. there was no insentive whatsoever to buy the game new other than the "online pass" for multiplayer. which though I have used I could easily have done without and just bought the game used if Id know there was no DLC.

I know EA want to try to make people buy the game new and all so put an insentive to do so new standard editions should get somee kind of Single player DLC content, and the Online pass. then buuld up from there so the Pre-order gets extra DLC, then the CE gets moar DLC and Tinbox LE items.

Not really interested. Last time I actually used a manual must've been when I first played Europa Universalis 3 and had no idea what any of the buttons did. Most games I learn by playing.

All collector's editions should have an art book and/or a soundtrack. Those are the two biggest things I want. Also statues are neat.

Agreed/ a CE should have an Art Book, and OST. I;d also like some kind of Hardback "Story so far" kind of book/codex a Hawke / Isabella action figure might be nice too.

Preorders suck ass.

Asking for  lucrative preoder deals is asking publisher to kick you in the balls. It is always touch insulting towards consumer when they try to secude you into bypassing  reviews and word of mouth by offering them  tempting sexy preorder offerings.

Otherwise idea is great. I'd much like old fashioned approach to journals. Ie, play with book on your table. Game tells you " Journal entry 72, page 7 added" and theen you can either read in ingame much like you did in DA:O OOR you can check the entry from the book! Grand and atmospheric stuff to check maps and such with your own meaty fingers.

Yeah, having a thick manual with some lore and fully documented gameplay mechanics would be great.

Though I'd kind of like to have a 'lore manual' all on its own, to contain all of the codex entries and maybe some additional gameworld info. Maybe the CE could come with two codexes, a gameplay codex and a lore codex. That would be neat.

Oooh Statues, Books, Soundtracks, maybe a cool chest filled with a Flemeth bobblehead! I love bobbleheads! Maybe a nice cloth map or something. I dunno, I love Pre-Orders-I'm a sucker for them. Any game I love I buy the Pre-Order special edition stuffs. It's fun, and I am a collector. ;)

I agree with this. And one of those cool Skyrim paper maps of Thedas to hang on the wall. In fact a booklet about the cultures, histories, and what-not and a paper map would be incentive enough for me to grab the Collector's Edition.

That's not what I'm talking about.

Warcraft III Manual

That goes in depth to tell you who the races are, where they've come from, and who their leaders were/are.

That's they type of manual I was talking about. Something like that would fit perfectly in a CE of a game like DA(imo).

Indeed. I find things like this, or encyclopaedias (like AC did), soundtracks, art books (Maker, I *love* art books) far more compelling than Day 1 DLC. I mean sure, it's nice to get some extra in game stuff, and I'm not averse to an extra ring or sword, but extra companions or questlines? No, please. I'd rather have companions included in the game and get something to collect, that's, imho, far more satisfying. Give me a fancy art book over DLC any time.(Admittedly, I really like collecting things. I don't have any space in my room, but that never stops me when something catches my eye.)

Yeah I've got the warcraft 3 manual from the warchest(didn't bother dling from your link since I assume that's what it is). There was a time when I used to read that kind of stuff(though I never really used manuals for instruction). I don't really anymore. Haven't exactly psychoanalyzed myself as to why I don't care for them anymore, but I don't.

I completely agree with you. I am a collector, I love collecting Art books, and various bobbleheads or neat statues. Although I love DLC's and will buy those too, I really love the extras they give you.

That sounds nice, however, if I'm going to pay more for a preorder/CE then I want more then just a booklet, map, and statue. I would want a DLC to make the justification of spending more money than a standard edition worth it. Fluff is nice, but I can look online to find lore about something I'm interested in; such as a person, event, region, etc. Statues I might be able to find online, or at some hobby/game store.

Spending extra money on a game needs to have something that enhances the experience of playing in the game someway. Paying extra for something I can probably find online for free, or cheaper isn't worth the additional cost for me, no matter how appealing the fluff looks in a book, map, statue, etc.

would be nice to have SOMETHING that only pre-orders can get instead of pre ordering and finding out that later everyone gets the same thing. I thoroughly enjoyed the clothe map in DA:O had it framed and mounted and still hangs in my game room. Would like a matching one of Thedas or even some of the major cities, not like the quest maps but geographical maps with buildings and street names outlying regions showing the contours of the countryside. Dont really worry about manuals, can usually buy them at the game store or wait for them to come out on wiki or something. Well i have always loved maps so thats what I prefer. Besides it would help in my table top dragon age I am running.

I have no problem with a physical map or artbook being included in the Collector's Edition, but I really hate statues being included, if they want to sell one to us I think the BioWare store is the best place for those for the increased cost for a single item isn't something I am interested in. Besides it always isn't a guarantee to sell for I remember the HALO 3 Legendary edition with the helmet case sticking around for a long time, I think I might have saw it through a major layer of dust the other day.
