Hello all,

I've encountered a really annoying bug that's looking like it's going to cost me several hours of play time... I'm right at the beginning of Act 3, just going around doing some of the companion quests, did a few before talking to Sebastian, agreed to his quest right away and went to go do it... now, when I defeat the Resolutionists in the Viscount's throne room, I get a "loading" message on the screen (never seen that before) and nothing ever happens.

If I press Esc, it skips Leliana's introduction and she begins talking to Isabella. No matter what I choose or how I end the conversation, as soon as Anders says "None of you", I get the same Loading message as before, only pressing Esc doesn't help. I have to open Task Manager and force close the game.

What causes this bug? If I have to rewind several hours that's one thing, but I don't want to start over and do it all again just to get trapped by this bug yet again (you can't leave the Viscount's Keep until the quest is over, apparently). Is there any way to stop this or fix it? Aside from just not doing the quest?

May I direct your attention to:

That discusses this very bug. As of this time there is no fix for it, and it's been broken for several months now.

Wow... just, wow. I beat the game when it came out and never had this problem. Now it's kind of a game-ender for me. I had the crazy all-out, everybody-bring-your-nugs orgy with the Warden, Leliana and Isabella in the first game with an eye towards seeing if they acknolwedged it in their meeting.

I know it's just one quest, but I might be walking away from the game forever for this. This was going to be my last DA2 playthrough (lost all my old saves on my old computer when it bit it) anyway and if they honestly can't be arsed to fix a game-breaking glitch in what was a piece of pre-order bonus content for me, I can't see myself being arsed to finish playing the game, or shelling out more money for MotA.

It's not classy, Bioware.

UPDATE:

When I had more time, I reloaded from the beginning of the Act, and did everything over again, pretty much the same as I had the first time I hit the bug (which for the sake of completeness was: Went directly home after the Orisino/Meredith confrontation, read my letters, talked to Aveline, travelled via the map to the Hanged Man, spoke to Isabella and Varric, added them to my party, travelled to Darktown and spoke to Anders, added him to my party, travelled via the map to Hightown, spoke to Delilah Howe outside the Chantry, entered the Chantry and accepted Sebastian's quest, replaced Varric with Sebastian, used the map to get to Hightown (Night), fought a bunch of Bloodragers, entered the Viscount's Keep, fought the resolutionists, BUG.)

However, this time, I saved before going into the Viscount's Keep. So I fell back to that save, walked back to the Hawke Estate, turned back around and went out immediately back to the Hightown (Night) map, but replaced Anders with Varric. Then I went and did the quest and everything was fine except it skipped a line of Isabella's and she was invisible for a second, but the cutscene played and ended and everything went fine.

So possibly

1. Having Anders in your party causes the bug?
2. NOT having Varric in your party causes the bug?

If I have some free time I might keep testing different party combinations and see if the results vary at all.
