In Origins you can train the mages to be Arcane Warriors, which means a tank mage with heavy armor and weapon. But neither in DA2 nor in a novel you can find a person with such a specialization.  With regard to current lore, DLC etc. also all of the party members like Morrigan or Anders seem to be normal mages with robe and staff.

Is there no other AW than the PC Warden? And this also only as headcanon in case you play Origins as mage?

I think the Arcane Warrior skill was taught to you by an ancient spirit trapped in a soul gem in the Dalish ruins in Origins. He told the Warden that the specialisation had been forgotten through the ages, meaning that the Warden (or any companions taught the skill by the Warden) would be the only known Arcane Warrior(s) in Thedas.

I would like to see the skill return in DA3, especially as it would make more sense for a mage who sympathises with the templars to use the skill. Maybe it could be taught to you by a secret cult of Arcane Warriors existing in Orlais.

Since David Gaider (I think) said at PAX East that they would be concentrating on having fewer specialisations, but associating each specialisation with a substantial quest (in place of doing origin stories) this is plausible. It would be good if you could branch off the skill into, say, a purer warrior subset or a more magic/fade subset after a certain point.
