Like Alpha Protocol right? I really liked this feature in that game, i played it through more than once and it really highlights how in-depth they made that system. I played through once and angered everyone and the main villain brought it up saying "You seem to alienate everyone you meet" It also changed things like endings, missions and romances i wont detail them to much so not to spoil - but you could kill seemingly unkillable people if you annoyed them enough or you could turn an enemy if they respected you enough...stuff like that.

Could this work for Dragon Age? In the 2nd you had it sort of with the Arishok. I like being able to impress a rival in a game, i like that feeling of respect - you had Loghain respecting you in the first game and like i said Arishok in the 3rd.

Maybe not even have it with everyone, i cant really think of enough Non-Companion NPC's in the previous games, maybe just a visual representation and consequences for how you treat people - even if its just them being shorter in there conversations with you if you have been rude to them before.

Soooo, what you're saying is, you want a reputation system of some kind.

This is really only useful if you need an aggregation of some kind to survey lots of pointless no-name quest-dispensing characters who all belong to a faction, but in the Dragon Age games one of the major themes is that the individuals belonging to a faction are not necessarily representative of that group. I mean, how weird would it be for you to go out of your way to save some Templar's life and his family and his little dog only to have him give you a speech about your anti-templar ways because you killed the templar commander who was a total jerk and kicked the little dog and that got you -100 "templar" rep?

II think this would be WAY more bug-prone than fun-prone regarding factions but yes, it'd be cool to have more INDIVIDUAL NPC's where treating them well or badly had effects down the road.

Yea you would need two systems in play....your views on mages/Templars and how you treat them personally - obviously with some overlap too, i think that would make for some great combinations - You could be Pro Templar but be locking horns with the Commander on a personal level.
