Well, I am ready to use a cheat code here. I can't win the battle no matter what I try. I have my human warrior character, Alister, Morrigan and Liliana: and I am dead in the water -- or caverns in this case. I have only Winter Grasp to try and hold Kolgrem and I cannot toggle between Morrigan using her spells and my character attacking the two mages and archers. It seems virtually impossible to me at this point.  Does anyone out there no a cheat code to get me past this Quest? Or, how to set up the tactics precisely to aid in the battle? Any help would be much appreciated.

Also, where the hell can I find a PDF manual of the game, since my games is a downloaded version? Thanks.

Honestly, I think the biggest problem is the two Mage's. Try to take them out quickly. The archers should be your next priority, then Kolgrim after that. It's still going to be a tough fight, but if you prioritize your targets, it will be a lot easier.

use spacebar to pause the game, set the difficulty to easy, Alistar tank --> Taunt

Morigan Winters graps on Kolgrim

would be better if you stated your level, your build and stuff like that

Mana clash and glyph of repulsion is what I use for this battle. Mana clash takes out both mages instantly. Glyph of repulsion cast immidiately thereafter on my mage prevents Kolgrim from exacting holy vengeance on my hide.

Well, I am at level 10and Alister is at level 10 also. Both Liliana and Morrigan are at level 9. Alistar does have Taunt. I don't know what you mean by build? My character is a human -warrior? Alister and Morrigan are using ranged weapons, while Liliana and I are using melee weapons.

What type of weapon style is your Warrior using? Dual Wielding? SnS? Two-Hand? Different weapon styles have different options for dealing with certain enemies. Also, what is your primary Spec? All of this will help us fine-tune the advice we give you.

Also give the same thing for Alistair and Leliana, and an idea of what spells you have for Morrigan.

I don't know? He's using a two-handed sword, as is Leliana.A lot of you are using terms I don't understand. I am used to playing oblivion. Simple really.

SnS?

Morrigan has two shapeshifters, the bear and the spider. She also has mind blast, disorient, and lightening --for the most part.

I don't have a manual for one thing and for another I am totally unsure as to the progression of each quest. What comes first and / or what comes next?

Send Alistair to lock Kolgrim and support him with healing poultices. Try giving ranged weapons to Leliana and use her bard's talents to buff/debuff.

You and Morrigan should try to take down the mages, but - if you want my sincere opinion - this is so not a good party to confront Kolgrim. Mana Clash should be a priority and having Wynne will help too, or maybe Shale to hurl at the mages. Can you restore another save, go somewhere else and come back when you're more ready?

Sorry for the double post.

Did you went to Redcliffe (Arl Eamon/Sacred Ashes) right after Lothering? I found out that completing the Circle of Magi quest before anything else, makes the subsequent tasks a lot more easier.

Sorry. It means Sword and Shield. It's a weapon class from the Monster Hunter Freedom series, and is exactly what it sounds like: a Sword and a Shield. To me, the Weapon and Shield Talents are SnS (Sword and Shield) Talents, even though you can use things like Axes, Maces, and Daggers instead of an actual sword.

I am seriously thinking of going back to the start of this quest and getting Wynne, as you say, AndreaDraco. Although, I hate doing things over again. I suppose the upside is knowing what to expect when I return to this quest. I guess I keep Morrigan around for obvious reasons and Leliana kicks butt. Alister's my buddy!

That's probably cause the Circle of Magi is the easiest quest-line around.

As for Kolgrim, I used Leliana [Bow], Morrigan [Staff] and Sten [Two-Handed Sword] and myself: Rogue Human Female [Dual-wield]
Note: Making Leliana a Ranger spec, really helps out. [And yourself, too]

Start with a pause, order your tank [Preffered with shield specs, or Shale with good gems.]
to run to Kolgrim and use Taunt. Order your Ranged dps to take out the Mages [Also have Morrigan/Hero[Mage] get  "Heal - Ally below 50-75% HP" in the \\ Menu. if you have a Rogue I suggest you stealth behind the Mages, and get a backstab, followed by "Dirty Fighting" that'll take care of the Mages, very quick.

Spam Pommel Strike on the Mage's, and pop a Sunder while they're down. They should go down pretty quickly like that. Do the same with the Archers.

I add my vote for getting the mages out quickly. Pommel strike, shield bash, overpower... I would set Alistair to default and set him on one mage, use your guy on the other. If Morrigan has any sort of immobilzing spells (glyph of paralysis, cone of cold) keep immobilzing Kolgrim. Keep Lelianna ranged and give her any fire or ice arrows you have for extra damage. If any of your guys can use flask bombs, use those too. Once you take out the mages, just keep an eye on your group's health and use packs and just whack away at Kolgrim. :)

If your going to do this over from the start then I have some suggestions.

Convert Alistair into a dual wielding dagger dexterity based fighter

Start by pumping up his dexterity to 24 (26 if you have "the edge" dagger )

Then up his strength till you can give him some decent heavy armor. Then pile the majority into dexterity.

Take the first two dual wield weapon talents, Dual strike, and shoot for momentum. Pick up precise striking and also go for the death blow level 12 talent BEFORE you start choosing any of the other dual wielding talents.

Take morigan along. Pile all her stat points into magic. Go for flaming weapons, first and then affliction hex. These two spells are all you need to make Alistair melt kolgrim and any other boss into a puddle of red goo.

If you get a chance go for mana clash but I doubt you will be able to get that spell before this battle unless you respec or purchase tomes that increase your spells. I tend to use the respec mod which alows you to rechoose her spells. Glyph of repulsion is a must for any mage in your party.

Your main can be anything provided you make alistair a dual wielder.

Your 4th party member really doesn't matter all that much. I generally take a rogue for the XP from disabling traps.

Pausing is another thing I don't under stand? I guess i just don't know how to use it. How do I get them to do the things you say to do --via the tactics menu? I don't know? I really wish there was an online manual? Learning on the fly stinks.

When you pause the game, you can select each party member and tell him/her what abilities to use, which target to select and so on. It's really simple.

I really appreciate all of your responses. Part of my problem is my own dexterity and quickness on the keyboard and the mouse. At 62 my short term memory is pitiful. I have a hard time thinking fast as well. Thanks again for all your help. It has been much appreciated.

In general, it's good strategy to take out any magic casters first because they deal the most damage without even having to move. Your mages are also your best bet against them, unless they have some anti-magic buff on, in which case your archer or rogue should go after them. I believe Morrigan starts out with a Horror spell so use that to incapacitate one of the mages right off the bat. She doesn't have Paralyze at the start but if she's at level 10, you might have chosen it at training and if so, then use that to take out the other mage as well. The important thing is to incapacitate the mages so they can't cast THEIR paralyze or whatever on Alistair (or worse on Morrigan).

Your tank (in this case Alistair) should engage the boss (Kolgrim) and keep him occupied while the others take out the rest. When everyone else is down, then focus your fire on Kolgrim to kill him.

Oh on the sequence of events, the game kinda nudges you to do Redcliffe -> Circle -> Denerim -> Haven/Temple -> Orzammar/Brecilian Forest but you don't have to.

I like doing Circle first because that gets me 21 base stat upgrades. It also gets me Wynne with her awesome healing, plus unlimited lyrium to make potions with (which she will need if she does a lot of healing). Then I do Orzammar because that's where you can find the best armor for Alistair, plus by the time you finish Orz your money bags will be full so you can buy upgrades for everyone.

If you want to follow the story in logical sequence though, don't listen to me... follow the game's nudges. :)

It's always a good idea to get the party members you intend to use as early as possible so you can allocate stats and talents appropriately and not by the game's built-in "cat walking over keyboard" method.

It's a good idea to go to the circle first because it also gives you the stat points you need for talents/skills. For example, for a non-rogue I always get exactly 11 Cunning then go to the tower. If you go there quickly, you can then fill out the Coercion talent line quickly so you won't fail too many checks.
