Right, try to suffer through my little rant here, I will try hard to make it short!

First off, I think no one can ( at least rpg fans) deny that playing around with your house in an RPG can be quite amusing! To spend all that hard earned money on making it all big and fancy and at the very best show it off to some friends/forums somewhere. Also if you are not into all of that, then I believe you at least have a friend who has ranted how she has put a silly amount of effort into a house say in skyrim and if not...damn I was wrong!

Now believe it or not the next part of my rant wont be how we should be able to build a little house in DA3 and customise it and be happy that we can store some small ''Trophy's'' there, not at all!

I think we should have a castle! (again)
Before people start calling this idea silly/nuts and that the development team has better things to focus on, hear me out! I believe the castle/outpost/whatever should work as it did in DA:A!  Give us a mage/templar/something (not sure what factions there are in the end!) outpost/castle what we can upgrade/quest around in/build it up. Personally I felt it has always been really epic when games allow us to do this well (actual upgrades/quests not just ''heres a pointless castle where you have nothing) ! I believe it was also in NwN2 where you got a castle and you could even Lord over pesants around the area, raise taxes and overall be  if you wanted to O_O

So...yes...castles please! Proper ones with quests/upgrades/so forth!

Well... I don't know about a castle, but I'd like to have a house/home base that changes depending of our choices. Guild Wars 2 tried to do that and failed miserably to impress, but I'd love if BW could pull this off. I don't think that, even after upgrading all of the Vigil, we'd see any actual changes on the building itself?

I would kill for a more political RPG, like a full length Awakenings with 75% "dialogue combat" and 25% smashing evil with a pale full of hardened cement.

I can. Total waste of time.

<- RPG fan likely longer than OP has been alive.

The only game I've ever played where player housing both made sense and was thoroughly integrated into the experience was Star Wars Galaxies. Incidentally, that was also the only game where crafting wasn't complete garbage.

Eh suppose it could happen, if what we have heard so far about building up armies and sending spies to engage in political warfare is true then the Inquisitor will need a base of opperations.

I just need a place to dump my stuff, I would be happy with something like box.Still if other people want a castle, I will happily support it.

The MP aspect is exactly why it worked in that game, imo. Players needed shops to sell their wares. They wanted places to show off trophies from their latest hunting expeditions. They needed cantinas to relax, and medical centers to heal. All of these things were built, placed, and decorated by players, and the game mechanics gave players a reason to frequent the shops, cantinas, med clinics, etc. that others had laid down--in towns constructed entirely by communities of players.

I would like a home base, whether it's a house or castle I'll leave up to Bioware. I just want a building, not a camp.

Um...The Guild Wars 2 developers have stated that they are NOT finished with that and plan to update it

Well when I read the first part I thought you were going to be talking about regular customizeable housing, which I'm not a huge fan of. I don't dislike that kind of housing per se, and I would spend some time in that kind of system, but ultimately it'd be a lot of resources used for something that I personally wouldn't spend a whole lot of time on in a single player rpg.

Now your castle suggestion, I wholeheartedly support that. The NWN2 castle was awesome.

I was actually replying to your unedited post. Talking about ME3.

And I'm not being very serious. You can feel free to ignore me when I'm like this.

I'd love a castle, especially if you could go out and recruit npcs to work in it. "Oh you hate being a barmaid here? Come be the cook at my castle"

What I've learned about player houses in TES is that all that I actually need is a effin' large, bottomless chest that stores all my crap that I have hoarded (those that I want to keep). Other than that I don't see any use for it. If they managed to somehow implement story stuff and something interesting around it then maybe it would be some use. I can't imagine anyone having fun decorating that...?

I think you could make a good game that was focused on managing a stronghold. Mix in some strategy elements in there, that would be great

But I don't think it works especially well if it's just a small aspect of the game.

Also as silly as this may sound, would be wonderful if they allow a few optiosn for us to choose a theme for said castle x) Right, I know I know this is going bit too much into fantasy/crazy town but I always liked my houses/castles in games to look a bit more wicked/dark/'evil'.

I mean as a mage I would love to have templar heads on pikes greet any new arrivals @_@

Could be fun. Kind of like the Hearthfire DLC that recently came out for Skyrim.

Actually I think it's pretty likely we will have a castle in DA III. Mark Darrah tweeted about "Helm's Deep meets the Batcave." I know that isn't much to go on, but it sounds to me like we'll be getting a base of operations which functions similarly to the Sanctuary in Fable III.

I do like elements which allow me to upgrade my HQ and provides me with more things to do than simply talk to followers and store equipment, so the suggestion of related quests sounds good to me.

Not really. I actually enjoy playing games where I can customize houses and stuff, but I consider that simulation materian not RPG.

Rpg is about playing a role, and while building a home could certainly be part of that, I still prefer to have Dragon Age focus on story and characters.

The Hawke mansion was ultra boring for it wasn't really anything but a humor platform and a place for you to get mail.

I loved the camp in DA:O where everyone came together for a unified pupose and you got to know one another.

I hope, assumin that we are going to be inquisitors, that we are given a barracks kind of home that we share with our companions.

If they made player housing into a little mini game it would be good, you could complete mini-mini games inside the mini game to furnish your house, and then you could complete more mini games by having a mini game to have a party at your house and you have to keep your guests happy by replenishing the wine and food supplies :).

All mini games are fun, Bioware should make all non-essential storytelling aspects into mini games.

It would be cool with a castle. But give the player some incentive as to why it would be wise to costumize it.

For instance. Higher walls, stronger walls, better smithy, better barracks and all kinds of stuff that can enhance your performance against an attack.
