A few things. First, I completely sympathize with what you're asking for, OP, but I personally don't care whether it's a castle, camp, compound, villa, manor or something else; I just want it to be interactive, customizable based on player choices, and alive.

I think DA: Legends (was that the name of the Facebook game?) did the managing the castle part in an interesting way, and I liked it. You could purchase improvements to the base which benefited you in the long term, but at the sacrifice of potions, weapons, equipment etc. that would be more helpful in the here and now. Those kinds of choices are quite realistic, I think, and ultimately give one more of a sense of agency and interactivity than the improvements to Vigil's Keep in DA:A, which were linear, the same in every game, involved no tradeoffs (even all the coin for the walls didn't really, because there's such a glut of coin in Awakening), and tightly integrated into the main plot rather than being a respite from it.

To continue with my string of references, I liked how you couldn't use the science lab upgrades until you had recruited Mordin in ME2, and how each new companion you got to join you gave you new upgrades to the ship or your weaponry (like Thane's probe upgrade and Samara's fuel upgrade). It would be cool to have a base that starts off quite basic, but that gives you the opportunity to fund the furnishing of a laboratory for researching methods to fend off blood mages, templars, Qunari etc, and that could be a place where a companion could spend a lot of his time. Someone else could manage the armory, another a clinic where the team stops in after missions, and so on.

Oh, and let's please ditch the trope of squad members never moving around or doing anything unless interacted with by the PC. Have them turn up in random places within the base, even outside on the grounds, or in the hubs themselves if not taken along in the protag's party.

Actually building our own house? No. Adding interactibility to earned 'trophies' then placed in designated PC housing? I'd support that.

Oh, agree with most what you say!

Also, perhaps I should have made it a bit more clear but I mentioned a upgradable/interesting castle mostly out of fear that it will otherwise sound I just want a dull house where you...well dont / cant do anything interesting in.

Well, as far as that one tweet about "Helms Deep meets Batcave"---the truth is we don't know if that's referring to the PC lair.

It could be the villain's lair. Maybe some NPC we need to meet...it could be anything.

I love the idea of upgrading PC housing. I love doing that. From fortifying defenses/offenses, to decorating. I love having some place for my character...to be. In between the hard battles and bittersweet story plot points.

That said, I really don't feel like a castle or fortress would fit in DA3. Not in a major, lair kinda way. And that's because I imagine we'll be traveling much more in DA3. I hope we will.

I imagine there will be alot going on, and I don't see us effectively running back and forth to a fort. Or castle.

Maybe one small-ish, castle-y type residence would be nice. Just to have at least one solid thing. Something charming. Not overblown.

But for the most part of the game, I want a big pirate boat. Still, I want this. Lol. Something mobile; where all the companions can be gathered; preferably with a "mess hall" where we can gather and eat together.

Many years ago I played this game.."Grandia" I think it was. Anyway, they had parts where the characters would sit down together and eat. Have convo.'s and actually share some relevant story info. It was the same eating motions repeated over and over, but it was a nice touch.

A ship I can upgrade and decorate. At least to some degree. It could have a mini tavern in it, too. Maybe we could dart off to that lil chain of islands...if we wanted, or needed to. Random NPC's helping to operate the ship.

Just make it a lively kinda place. DA2 Hawke estate you could hear the rafters creaking. If it wasn't for Bodhan and Sandal, the place would have been dead.

Maybe if its an upgradable keep of some sorts that could be of use in battle. But I wouldn't want a house/castle that allowed me to pick out wallpaper and drapes, I'm more interested in adventuring and storyline, than home making.

Late to the party, but I would love a base of opperations/house/Batcave in DAIII, though I vote for one that is actually involved. I don't mind the house I have in Skyrim (I need someplace to stash my stolen pickpocketed legally obtained goods), but I would hope the one in DAIII would be more relevent to the PC, companions and plot.

Eh suppose it could happen, if what we have heard so far about building up armies and sending spies to engage in political warfare is true then the Inquisitor will need a base of opperations.

Oh, I have actually not heard that but it does sound very awesome!

So far it is a rumour from the leaked survey regarding which description of the game participants of the survey find most enticing. One of the descriptions has a line about building up armies and sending spies to engage in political warfare but even if this be true we still dont know what context this line was written in and what exactly it implies.

The hopeful part of me hopes that this implies some sort of overworld turn based strategy elements while the cynical part of me knows that this could very well be nothing but hyperbole writen to make the game seem more interesting than it is (I mean the "building armies" part could have been used to describe the story in Origins as well), the truth however could be anywhere in between.
