Finally beat BG1 earlier today, and will take that character into BG2. Unfortunately many in my party died and it was a very close call, so the plan of transferring the Helm of Balduran from our tank Minsc to the PC's inventory failed. It was my understanding that if certain items were in the PC's inventory they will get imported into BG2.

Earlier I read here that "There is a default item
for each list so that if you never imported an item
from each list you will still get something in BG2
".

This implies that even if I don't have them in my inventory, they should get imported, and since Helm of Balduran is listed as default, that one should get imported. Very quickly started a game, and saw that the Golden Pantaloons, that I had on my person at the end of BG1, was in the starting location but the Helm of Balduran was not (nor Mail of the Dead, whatever that is).

Will these items be located somewhere else in the beginning of BG2, or will they simply not be imported unless I have them in my inventory at the end of BG1? If the latter is true, I'd be willing to go through that monster of a battle one more time to get it imported as it's pretty darn good.

If it does get imported, please don't be explicit in where as I haven't played the game yet and am doing my best to stay away from spoilers, however small :)

Yes the two items are somewhere inside the first area... perhaps they got taken from you by someone when you got put in that cell?

Thanks :)

Then I'll have to look about a bit more (I played almost literally one minute just to see how it started). Reassuring to know I don't have to go through the final BG1 battle again, cause those chips don't easily fall over ;)

Chips fall over easily. Indeed it's hard to balance them upright!!

Chaps are a different ball game altogether. Though if you're a pretty enough girl, they get knocked over easily as well.

There's one item in a chest in a bedroom, and there's a duergar that has another. There are default items that can be there, but if you import with certain other items, they can occasionally substitute. I've never actually seen that happen, it's always been the same helm and the same armor for me.

Also, there's a pair of pants, but that's not gear...exactly.

Didn't read the post above as I noticed it was spoiler-ish, but have found all three items now. Bit strange to play when I know absolutely nothing about what will happen, but it's great fun so far. Lots of reloads of course, but that's how it is with Baldur's Gate. I don't refer to it as Baldur's Reload for no reason ;)

Won't say anything more about where I am and have done since this is the BG1 forum, but it's still very early.
