Ever since Fox's report on ME 1, Bioware seems to have a double standard on what's okay in an M-rated game.

So far: murder; blood; exploding bodies; decapitation; drug use; political undertones/overtones; implications of rape; torture; prostitution; cussing; near-naked demons and horridly nude Broodmothers are okay for an M rated game.

But people being naked in a shower or naked while making love is...bad?

I'm not talking about turning future love scenes into short porn films, I'm talking about not being so conscious in this area when the game is already rated M and there's stuff in these games that's much worse than a little skin.

I mean really? What's worse for a player's psychology? A 3d elf who strips out of her tube top and engages in a 20 second love scene with the player character or being whipped by the tentacle of a broodmother while she grabs your companion and bites off his head?

Just a little consistency is all I want from DA3.

I think the point is not that we NEED nudity for a "mature" story but that a "mature" story should treat nudity maturely.

By that I mean it should be treated without kiddy gloves and ridiculous coverups. It should just be a part of the fabric of the story, the same as everything else.

Are you okay with an interpretation of this that means there's no nudity at all, as long as it isn't exempt in a hamfisted and unnecessary way?

For example, is deciding to do fade to blacks as a way to depict the scenes something that makes a scene less mature?

I don't think the analogy fits, however.

Unless you'd like to see some sort of gameplay elements during the intimate scenes (which is when your rating does start to shift to AO. For an example see the game Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy), you're suggesting an alternative that limits gameplay.

Though you mention that it makes the game less engaging. Do you feel nudity in a scene makes it more engaging?

i am sorry, but this is a cheap and - IMHO - easy way out...BAH! makes me wanna puke...why rate a game "mature" (meaning: your player is normally 18+ years old (at least here in germany) and able to have sex himself how and with whom he wants to) if you censor it or only imply things?

Perhaps we'd like to leave it up to the imagination of the player for what type of things occur?

If the reason for wanting to see them is little more than "because I want to see them" then the advantage of showing nudity seems to disappear.

They shouldn't make content to fit the ratings, they should make the game they want to make, and let the rating fall where it will.

This is the way I see it too.

The one thing people often compare is the exploding bodies and whatnot.

Another difference for that is that stuff like that is more caricature. If we were to depict combat in a more realistic way, it'd probably be a rather unsettling thing as well. Probably moreso than a sex scene as well.

But I don't think people are asking for caricature style sex scenes... :P

I would like Bioware to stop doing things like giving Morrigan a special intimacy bra

Is it actually a custom model specifically for Morrigan's body that only exists for Morrigan while not wearing clothes? Or is it a more general "female body not wearing any clothes?" (this is actually somewhat serious. I actually don't know the answer to this question).

Though regardless, even if it is a custom body, I do know how the cinematics would have been set up and there would have been marks on the cinematic timeline that specify that the chestpiece Morrigan is wearing should be set to "none." So she'll be using the same body type that she would as though you unequipped her chestpiece.

I know some people look at her base armor (which indicates no bra), and then kind of stink eye when they unequip her chestpiece and suddenly she's wearing a bra because it doesn't "make sense" as she clearly isn't wearing one beforehand!

So it's not so much that Morrigan was given a "special intimacy bra" but rather that she was just using the body type she's assigned to use when she's not wearing any chest armor.

Just to be clear, the way the the model swap works, her standard armor isn't really "clothes hanging over top of the body." The WHOLE 3D mesh is considered one unit and the whole thing gets replaced when changing someone's armor..

So while it's okay for you to be disappointed because we didn't create scenes that depict naked people in them, it wasn't as though work was intentionally done to specifically put a bra on Morrigan for this scene. It just uses her "armorless" body mesh.

Well, you're "disappointed" in that the scene isn't as satisfying as you'd like it to be. You're not coming across as a sex crazed lunatic :)

How about this scenario: you romance a non-party NPC, all's going well, full frontal nudity, camera pans - lady touches her naked breast - camera pans down further, she opens her legs to reveal a darkspawn-esq set of genitalia which spews forth Grabber-like mosters and a battle esnues.

Not tasteful, not nice, but would make for a great bit of action and a great bit of the game IMO. Definitely something which, if done right, would add greatly to the game's unpredictability.

I'm thinking... no.

Two things are possible: you post these things in an effort to troll the forums by saying outlandish things while claiming intelligent discourse. Or you really mean them. Both make me want to close this thread. Please don't do this again.
