Hi.

I have yet to be taught any skills or abilities by my companions even though i am a lvl 14. How can i encourage them or what tomes can i get/use??

Check out this link for a list of specializations. If you click on them, it also shows how you can get them.

All are fairly straightforward except Shapeshifter. If you want a companion to teach you a specialization, just get enough approval rating.

I don't know what's up with Morrigan though. According to the link above, she will only teach you if her approval rating is LESS than 30. Weird, but it matches what I've experienced. She taught me the skill once just before Lothering, but in my other playthroughs she just wouldn't.
