So, I purchased the PC version of the game, I went through the launcher, all settings are on max, AA is all the way up. My framerate (with a 5850) is buttery smooth but the game still kind of looks like ass. Now, before people begin flaming me saying that gameplay>graphics, yes you're right. But, video games are a visual medium, and just as poor audio quality on a CD is a bad thing, bad graphics in a video game is a bad thing and can worsen the experience.
I'm not just here to complain.
Is there anything I could do to improve the visual fidelity? Any .inis I can edit (like in the Unreal Engine 3).
It's a shame but the poor graphics are actually detracting from my gameplay experience. It's fun, but it just looks really bad.
Mass Effect looked spectacular, largely due to lighting and reflections, this game is dissapointing on the graphical front.
Please don't flame.
Will the gfx get better throughout the game (the game took 4+ years to make)?

No, the graphics won't get better I am afraid. Every reviewer out there pointed out the game's weakness is on the graphics front. If you are enjoying the rest of the game, graphics shouldn't be that much of an issue.

Reviewers said the graphics were good not great.
this game looks TERRIBLE.
I've been playing Crysis Warhead all day. I've probably spoiled myself.
It'll probably look fine tomorrow when I get over my Crysis-gasm.
grr
anyone else feel like these gfx are horrible?

BioWare's strength has never been in graphics. For DA:O I find it odd that once they sold out to EA I figured they'd chip in some cash to fix it.

Graphics are fine. If you're really hellbent on getting the best visual quality you can change your AA filter in the catalyst control center to "edge-detect", force 16x AF and maybe turn on adaptive AA.

Welcome to the world of interesting games by the story and possibility and not only graphic one. Much better and much longer

what are you talking about? The graphics are fine on PC. Maybe you're doing it wrong.

I agree in a certain way, this game does have rather high requirements, kind of similar to those of Risen. At the same time Risen looks alot smoother with great vegitation and smooth textures. But after a brief time of playing the game you dont really focus on it, you're too focused into the story line to care about graphics.

Considering I only have my laptop to play it on, I'm just glad it's playable, and therefore thumbs up in my book. But yea, from screenshots I would have to agree that relative to other next gen titles it's lacking some jazz hands

Graphics on 360 are awful. I have many stunning games on this console, dating back to Oblivion, one of the first, that made me marvel at its beauty to Mass Effect which I just finished this morning for the third time and loved. I played DOA tonight and was amazed at how awful it looks. I am at the area with the tents and when you look out over the vista the trees look like little cardboard cutouts, I don't think I have ever seen anything that bad on this system. Fable 2 and Oblivion make this game look 10 years old. Is this really a Bioware game?

Um the graphics are great for me, I am playing max, the uniforms, faces, and most everything else has awesome textures, maybe you have your settings messed up in your video card, The only bad thing I see is the jewerly on the same is just part of there clothes and not a separate thing.

I'm running the game on medium settings and I like my graphics. Then again, I'd play DAO even if it had sprites in it. Graphics don't make of break a game like this one.

Yes, graphics aren't exactly pushing the limits of current hardware. I find it looks better if you aren't zoomed out all the way--the lighting effects are more prominent, for example.

Seeing as the last game I played was a nostalgia run of Diablo II a few months ago, I'm perfectly happy. The graphics certainly aren't terrible, and theres some pieces and backgrounds that look quite nice.
I'll admit they're not blow me away stunning graphics, but they're not bad.

He is right!! The characters look great but the environments and objects in them are horrible. Bioware, what gives here? Please say you are giving us a higher resolution pak, or are you letting the mod community up the visuals themselves?
You give us a great game, but on a PC we should have the bells and whistles since most of us have rigs that can handle it. And if we don't then give a us a slider to turn down...

Bioware has never deeply cared for graphics. I have a POS computer i can run on hight detail will AA off, Bioware has said multiple times in different q/a for different games they dont want their grpahics like crysis so it could be given to all people. Dont like the graphics go back to AoC or crysis. I think the game looks awesome. TY for this gift from god bioware.

Graphics look fine to me. The detail of my characters robes are awesome nothing looks bad. It is a lot better then oblivion, not sure how anyone can compare them to its graphics. Not every game has to have super high graphics in order to be good nor are super high graphics always a good thing.

The op is right..the textures are very bad in this game...I was really shocked when I saw them. It's a shame because the PC's look great, armor look terrific. There are great spell effects and animations and awesome lighting..but then the textures on environments are just horrible..I have been complaining all day because I have just been in utter shock that they are this bad. I hope to God someone releases a textures pack to solve this problem (like in some other games in the past)..
I don't really care about graphics but in this case I can't get over the fact because it's thrown in my face at every turn. NPC camp, check out the tents, the pelts on the ground, the wagon..they look like blurred messes...this type thing is everywhere and I just don't understand..
I am quite enjoying the combat, the story, the great lighting effects and spell effects..so it just confuses me more how the textures for environments can be this bad...and that no dev has said anything about it.
It also upsets me because I backed up DA:O's graphics in the past when people bashed them and I disregarded reviewers who mentioned graphics....when they were right.

When these kids pay $60 dollars for the game, they are entitled to their opinion.
Textures look a bit bad in a few places, I'd say slightly worse than oblivions, but the world, the lore, the animations, and the voice acting are superb. hardly noticing bad textures just because I'm pretty wrapped up in the story!

I agree. Even at 1080p with everything maxed significant parts of this game look like rubbish. Especially the environmental textures, yuck. Above post was right though, it looks better if explore in 3rd person and try not to look directly at the walls around you, just at the light coming in through the windows and what nto.
Great game none the less though.
And I don't think this makes us graphics snobs. I'm more then happy to go back and play Diablo 2 or Baldur's Gate and am fine with those graphics. But when I'm playing a modern 3d game, it's just jarring to see such awful textures as if I'm playing an old version of Quake.

I at first brushed off the bad textuers because the voices were SO good and the combat was fun...and story compelling...but when I got to the NPC camp and all the textures there were so bad..I realized they would be contstantly thrown in my face
