So, I purchased the PC version of the game, I went through the launcher, all settings are on max, AA is all the way up.  My framerate (with a 5850) is buttery smooth but the game still kind of looks like ass.  Now, before people begin flaming me saying that gameplay>graphics, yes you're right.  But, video games are a visual medium, and just as poor audio quality on a CD is a bad thing, bad graphics in a video game is a bad thing and can worsen the experience.

I'm not just here to complain.

Is there anything I could do to improve the visual fidelity?  Any .inis I can edit (like in the Unreal Engine 3).

It's a shame but the poor graphics are actually detracting from my gameplay experience.  It's fun, but it just looks really bad.

Mass Effect looked spectacular, largely due to lighting and reflections, this game is dissapointing on the graphical front.

Please don't flame.

Will the gfx get better throughout the game (the game took 4+ years to make)?

I will go to the area you posted in your screenshot and look at it tomorrow. It seems either people are saying everything looks great, or people eare saying some things are looking bad, leading me to think it's a user to user issue.

Maybe an issue of LOD's not up-rezzing for you...

Are you sure you are in a high resolution setting?

1:34 and 2:56 shows the clear difference between high and low

Well I am not in the office right now, but I am watching a playthough on youtube, and I am not noticing anything too bad

textures only Blur in DOF conversations, every other time the environments are sharp and high rez

Honesty, if you see emissive type objects in the level like your tree stump, they are usually design objects. It is a limitation of the toolset, that any interactable obejcts do not get a lightmap/shadowmap pass, and thus stand out quite a bit (i,e any lootable box)

so in that respect the contrast is by design to draw the player to them.

In a game the size of dragon age, you will always have stuff seep through the cracks that are lower in quality than others. Some blurry textures will be blurry by choice simply due to time constraints, or biting the bullet on some quality, but if you are seeing the majority of your textures down rezzed, it is confusing.

Dragon Age is not a "eye candy" type of game, but if you are consistantly seeing muddy textures on the PC version, it says to me something might be wrong.

After looking at the Wagon in the Wilds on my version it does, indeed seem to be pretty low resolution, while the barrels right next to them seem to be sharp and crisp.

The same with the wooden gate, the darker spikes are good resolution, but the gate is low.

What is interesting on the Wagon, is that the normal map seems to be pretty high on it. I am wondering if the wrong maps got compressed on certain props. Usually you compress down normals and spec, before you do it to the diffuse.

It would be interesting to note any fuzzy props you see in the game so there could be a possibility of patching higher textures for them. (I have no control over this FYI)

My guess is there was either some bad sorting in the compression of some of the textures, or it was reduced to meet min specs and then not included in the high texture pack :( Or the object didn't get a LOD flag on it...

Oh I will for sure be jotting down anything i see wrong when I will be playing it on my PS3.(fiancee' has barred me from playing games at home on the computer... something to do with looking at the back of my head for hours).

I agree it does seem like a bug that a few certain objects are looking extremely fuzzy, I hope that doesn't distract to much from your playing experience. My guess is, is that it was simply a matter of human error, as there is no way you would have pixel density vary so greatly from prop to prop right next to each other. Each model does have a LOD version attached to it, that greatly reduced the texture of the object. It might be simply that the wrong prefix was used.

There is some really great areas in the game, and some that could use work. Such is the fact of a development cycle of a game this large. QA can't find everything, and there is no such thing as a bug free game ( I think I had 3 game stopping bugs in Uncharted2 in my play through).

Though if a few fuzzy models are one of the biggest complaints people have of the game, I don't think that is too bad! ;)

Oh and yes, I woudl play the game with frame buffer off! much more moody!
