I don't really have a place to upload all the screenshots I have taken which demonstrate all the graphical issues.  I am not really sure that it wasn't meant to be the way it is.  While the gameplay is reasonable, Bioware really dropped the ball on the graphical side.  It seems obvious to me that they sent in the second string on this one. You know not good enough to run with the big dogs but still good enough to win against the average joe.

So all in all I am happy with the gameplay its just too bad Bioware didnt consider this game important enough to warrant the best of their artists and graphics people.  Anyways, I am going to go finish the game as this thread has been usurped by all the fanbois who are in complete denial about the shoddy graphical work.

Maybe with some luck we'll get a patch that helps a little, but I have played quite a few hours now and everything I am seeing graphically screams, amatuers.

Email them to me and I will glady upload them for you.

So, I purchased the PC version of the game, I went through the launcher, all settings are on max, AA is all the way up.  My framerate (with a 5850) is buttery smooth but the game still kind of looks like ass.  Now, before people begin flaming me saying that gameplay>graphics, yes you're right.  But, video games are a visual medium, and just as poor audio quality on a CD is a bad thing, bad graphics in a video game is a bad thing and can worsen the experience.

I'm not just here to complain.

Is there anything I could do to improve the visual fidelity?  Any .inis I can edit (like in the Unreal Engine 3).

It's a shame but the poor graphics are actually detracting from my gameplay experience.  It's fun, but it just looks really bad.

Mass Effect looked spectacular, largely due to lighting and reflections, this game is dissapointing on the graphical front.

Please don't flame.

Will the gfx get better throughout the game (the game took 4+ years to make)?

Yeah the graphics aren't great, no doubt, but the gameplay is so exceedingly fantastic that it's negligible. Great job again Bioware

I will admit, I don't like the graphics so far. But graphics is so far down the list for the reasons I am getting this game, it's almost negligible.

[...] the worst place [...] you could post details/specifics on certain textures not loading correctly is in a thread titled "Bad Graphics" where the OP and first page has no objective material or concrete examples and just deals in generalities.

But those low resolution textures and broken "frame buffer" mode are apparently the main cause for complaints about "Bad Graphics" in Dragon Age. So it's absolutely appropriate to explain the issues here.

you do understand that the majority of posts after the first page are more often than not only responding to that first page. not a lot of people are going to read a multi-page forum topic all the way through unless they have been following it.

OMG. What an excuse ...
I wish people not following the discussion of a topic/thread would not post there. The chances are high that their comments are improper or mistimed.

all im saying is dont expect objective replys to an incendiary topic heading and first page. and way to select half the paragraph and take it out of context btw.

Graphics are fine. If you're really hellbent on getting the best visual quality you can change your AA filter in the catalyst control center to "edge-detect", force 16x AF and maybe turn on adaptive AA.

The graphics are great on my PC but I run 2 graphics cards and crank up all the video settings as high as it will go, looks great, you just need a fast computer to handle it.

I don't know. I can see why some people wouldn't like the graphics. They have a stylish quality about them. Not quite realistic but not to far from it to look somewhat cartoonish. I pretty much hate stylish kind of graphics but his game leans so far on the realistic side that its ok with me. To the point where I really like the feel and look of the world. But as I said I can see how this wouldn't suit some people.

As far as the actual tech qualities I hear what people are saying but it holds up for me. No, its certainly not cutting edge, in fact is looks kinda dated but I think it holds up pretty well. The feel of the world I guess trumps the graphics shortcomings for me. And that is coming from pretty much a graphic "kinda guy".

Also with so much going on in the game world and long vistas I think making the graphics to high end would start to kill performance for many.

That's my 2 cents at least. Bottom line for me is that I think the game strikes a nice balance.

EDIT: Oh, and one more thing ... I hate these friggin' boards! sheez...

Ya I dare not go above a mid-high setting since even tho the only problem comes where theres a whole lot going on on screen. Like My whole party + 7-8 mobs + lots of effects and I get some stuttering.

Are they the best graphics? No and they are far from being the worst. Then again the graphics of a game come in around number 5 or 6 of the things that really matter to me in a game.

It seems like to me that with any new game theres always that group of people finding anything to throw a hissy fit over.

Being an EU resident, I haven't played the game yet, but I have watched tonnes of footage. I think the graphics are very nice from what I've seen. They may not be technologically the best (likely as a result of the game's long development), but they seem very carefully drawn, which I think is more important. I think the armor in Dragon Age is by far the best looking I've seen in a game, though.

It is unfortunate that the title is so incendiary, I agree. And I hate that in the very first post he's trying to compare it to Crysis, because now everyone keeps saying we're stupid because we want it to look like Crysis when we don't. We just see bad textures and find them quite jarring. Anyway, glad to see these issues have gotten the ear of someone closer to the dev's than me, and I'll keep an eye on it as I continue to thoroughly enjoy this wonderful game.

Just another example, the light brown wood vs the very well detailed box with vertical lines right next to it.

Hey Zax-Lee, "F%CK off!! We are here letting the developer know about issues with low res texturing not loading or showing up incorrectly. Replying about our "stupid lives" is an insult to us when we're trying to understand the texture issue at hand. As a developer has stated he sees the issues as well and will let the team know. So you along with everyone who says you have no texture issues, we are still waiting for your screenshots to show us other-wise....

It may be a "freakin" game, but nonetheless, there are mistakes, and when these mistakes are reported, there is a much higher chance these mistakes will be corrected.  Once all that is over with, THEN we can get back to our stupid lives.

I just came across an NPC in Redcliffe who is inside a armoire thing..and the texture on it is HORRIBLE as well..and it's something that the screen focuses on completely..how could this not be caught or fixed?
Here:

And this is one that you can't blame on Depth of Field like people keep doing..obviously in this scene..the Dresser thing would be the focus..not my players arm..

Umm, you can go ahead and take screenshots of blocky textures all day long for all I care. In the meantime, I'll be enjoying the game.  :innocent:

But you're not, you are reading the forums...

Eh, reading through this thread and typing this post took me like 10 minutes, while being obsessed with blocky textures can take far longer indeed. I mean, just think about how much time you must've spent thinking about this. Your heart probably becomes all heavy every time you see a bad texture. You must totally hate the game by now.:P

But seriously, my response was aimed more at those who made it sound like the game's impossible to play due to it looking so ugly, and posted SS only to mock it (at least it looked that way to me). I support those who wish to discover bugs for the devs to fix. I just don't appreciate posts that contain words like "pathetic", "worse than 'X' game", "worst graphic ever", and similar. But if you wish to help, you have my full support.

Still, I can't really see many posts here that look like they were actually designed to help. Most are filled with way too much negative emotion (and too much emotion in general) to appear hepful. This is to be expected, however, so I guess I'll just have to accept it.

Character models (mobs, NPCs, PCs) look really good, and are about on par with Mass Effect. The enviromental textures are horrible.

I still love the game. The gameplay itself is wonderful. The voice acting is top-notch. The story is interesting. I more or less love everything about it, except for the enviromental graphics. And I wish it had a "Hide helmet" option.

After the first four hours with the PC version (at max settings) I haven't actually been nearly as disappointed with the graphics as I had expected I would be after watching various gameplay videos.

Alright, coming straight from Uncharted 2 (the best looking game I've ever played, including Crysis at near max settings) DA:O is certainly looking very dated, but I had feared the graphics would be so bad I would find that they detracted from the immersion (yeah, yeah - I know, gameplay over graphics and all that. Planescape: Torment remains the best RPG I've ever played, but the fact is that technology has moved on a lot since then so my expectations are naturally much higher these days), but fortunately that hasn't been the case yet.

Honestly I am confused, I think the game looks terrific. Everything is smooth and detailed, FPS is smooth as well, no lag thus far.

No really terrible textures have popped out anywhere for me, and quite a bit of the scenery I have actually found superb.

Once again, none of us are complaining.  On the contrary, I find the game to look very good.  I am running it with forced optioned with nhancer maxed, and have a constant 60fps.  Its just certain textures, again as stated that aren't loading correctly.  Which are hopefully being looked into :)

First screen looks nice..then we have the dreaded wagon :)

2D Graphics and Sprites FTW!!

I find often times games with "bad graphics" have a lot of charm.. perhaps it's because you're mind starts filling in the blanks that are left by the pixelated images on the screen. Take for example the BG series, Diablo, Fallout, Monkey Island games. All top notch games and still immersive even though they play at 800x600.

On another note .. we have been talking about the environmental graphics here. The character models look awesome. So awesome they are far out of place in the poorly done world through which they walk. So posting character models really doesnt help the issue especially if you look for kind places to screenshot them.
