It depends one the scenes. In some area's the bland textures and the shoddy lighting/shadows are very apparant and in your face. In other scenes the lighting and ambient details make it actually look quite good.

IE - THe Ogre battle, the huge glass window with the light beaming through it I thought made teh area look very nice.

Just because you READ reviews, doesn't mean you're qualified to write them.

It's quite disappointing how even at maxed settings the textures can still look rather awful. Unless BioWare do release a texture upgrade (which I highly doubt), we'll have to expect something similar to Oblivion's QTP3.

Unfortunately I have to agree. Its taken a lot of the immersion away from me. Everthing on max with a high end comp gtx 295 core i7 etc. and many of the textures in the game are very poor. I expected much better from Bioware considering when BG etc came out the graphics at the time were excellent in comparison to other games.

I saw a picture where the "graphical bug" looked like it was as intended. It's supposed to represent "focused vision", not a graphical bug.

For all the others, I suggest everyone calms down, and post pictures from the game. The more references BioWare have to go on with fixing this bug so everyone can enjoy the game with great graphics AND great story. It's not a matter of "either or" here.

As for Crysis, very nice screenshots on the last page there. The only part of Crysis that was bland and grey was the beginning where you are jumping from the plane at night time, and well... Honestly everything after the alien ship looked kinda... Lame. I gave up after that.

I'd play the first half of the game a million times over though. It was vibrant and awesome.

Reviewers said the graphics were good not great.

this game looks TERRIBLE.

This is where you lost me.  I agree graphics matter, but the game does not look "terrible" by any means.  It has some great art design in a lot of areas and it all looks smooth and polished to me.  I think in a lot of ways it was designed for isometric view, because it looks stunning from a distance really... only when zoomed all the way in do the poor textures and pop-in rear their heads.

Anyway, I agree it could look better, I do not agree it looks terrible.  One day I can supersample it, which will get rid of the shimmering, and perhaps an ini tweak can be found to increase the draw distance.

Yeah I'm just totally not following you guys. Are you talking specifically console versions. The PC graphics for me are great. Actually better than I suspected they would be, considering the increased scope in area and charaters from a game like Mass Effect. Character models looks great, they're distinguishable and and can display a wide range of emotions. Environments are epic and thrilling. Only bad things I can say are the poorly implemented blood effects (which you can turn off, haven't decided if I'm going to yet), and the character run animations, which are a little stiff. But, personally, they're better than I was expecting. This is different than Mass Effect guys, it's not just rendering 5 or 6 characters is cubicle-sized environments. The scope is different.

Yeah, when the scope changes thats what LoD is for. Im starting to think it looks as good as it can considering the fans will be getting a toolset and can't really do everything Bioware can in their studio. So they may have sacrificed some polish for flexibility. However, some of the stuff still looks pretty shoddy regardless.

So. Got the game. It's excellent!

The graphics are mediocre, but nothing to groan about. So far zero framerate problems on XBOX360. Installed the game on hard drive.

I'm not going to bash anyone - but I don't understand what all the big fuss is about the graphics in this game. Sure, they're not the greatest, but I think they look great. Bioware wasn't going for the ultra-realistic look (Crysis, Age of Conan for example) it seems to me like they were going for their own unique visual style. They were probably also looking to make this game compatable on as many configurations as possible, PC, XBOX, and PS3. Anyway - I think they look pretty sweet, and I guess that's all that matters. I play on my 22" LCD with all the graphics maxed out running the game on dual (crossfire) ATI 4870's.

Umm, what the hell do you mean?  It wasn't a review just my Opinon on the graphics of the game from actually playing it. Unless it was just a jab at some misspellings that I had, whoopie freaking do.

People keep confusing most of the complaining with mindless complaining. Keep in mind we say that many areas of the game look very decent..and sometimes very nice..the main problem is the textures that are low-res at best..and look 10 years old..the screenshots posted don't lie. It is especially bad when you have good looking objects and then right next to it you have a texture that looks like it was painted by a child in pain.

I'm playing the PC version and honestly I think the game looks great. Graphics are never important to me as long as the game is good (let's face it, BG2 is an isometric game without fancy top of the line graphics, and it's still one of the best fantasy titles ever, NWN1 might not be the sparkling piece of visual eye candy, but again amazing game so who cares). I'll gladly say that people these days are spoiled with top of the line graphics.

Remember folks: BioWare has made a living off PC games, if you think the console version looks bad, invest in a good pc that will run it and your opinion should change. ;) Mass Effect was consolized, had beautiful graphics and also had a bunch of graphic popins and texture issues (clipping and collision related), the PC version has none of this.

I havent been everywhere in the game yet, obviously, but there is definite inconsistency. Their indoor areas seem to be much better than their outdoor areas for the most part. I still dont like the pudding..

er blood or whatever it is that oozes out onto the floor when you kill something.

I thought the graphics in the cutscenes needed a bit of help but overall gameplay I think the graphics are great.

I can overlook the spotty textures in places. It really isn't a big deal and doesn't break the immersion for me. I did notice certain things look like they have simple textures; carts, some hand-held items, etc. Overall I think the graphics are breath taking in certain areas. It's no Oblivion sure, but you can tell BioWare spent some time and it looks good.

Bioware spends so much money on the story and stuff, that they figure they can use less than stellar graphics... Id love to have better graphics, especially when I have a hires monitor... you can really see all the pixelation and stuff.

I think you hit it pretty good with what you said, inconsistent.

One minute you will be wowed by the scenery (and yes it is almost ALWAYS indoors) and the next you will be scratching your head thinking an area was unfinished.  Especially outdoors..detail is severely lacking.

the graphics on xbox are surreal - the faces and other assorted bits are quite detailed, but many items of clothing look out of focus or have no detail on them whatsoever (think mass effect before the pop in occurs), which makes for a very strange visual effect.

for example, every time my character stops to talk you have this hideous sword over his shoulder that looks like its made out of a cardboard box that almost entirely distracts from what's going on.

moving into the very first quest area now (as a human), and some of the textures are almost painful to look at. It's thankfully balanced out by the game being lots of fun, but man - absolutely hideous to look at in places. can't quite work out why half the graphics look good and the rest looks awful.

not a game breaker by any means, but VERY noticeable and rather baffling.

I have to agree on the outdoors....it needs some serious help. The draw distance seems really short, perhaps if it was extended it would be better.

i don't have the game yet, but watched plenty of in-game footage on youtube - it looks fine - and it looks better than obloomion for sure. it's just a little cartoony in art style, but that's definately a positive for me - i love the look of it.

the only thing that was a bit weird is people's hands - is it just me or do they look a bit too large?

That's Oblowvion in my neck of the woods, and yeah they need the big hands to hold onto those treetrunks that go for greatsword pommels..lol .. ok so it's only the kings sword that's that big... looks like a scaled up boot knife.
