Ashiywolf...good luck finding answers..Devs have not responded to this page since a few early responses which just said yeah the textures look like they aren't reloading right...

Actually, I believe I said they weren't loading right. Andrew said they were LOD textures with the incorrect prefix, making a texture stretch on a object in lower resolution than it is supposed to be. Very common practice in game design, actually.

Also, he said people would do themselves as well as others a favor if we took as many screenshots of the objects with these texture errors as possible (fence and wagon, statues I believe are mentioned so far) and then they can fix it from there.

It shouldn't be a topic about whether the graphics look great or bad anymore. I think that's improper and only serves to prolong the issue getting fixed. I've been going through the game and seen the same mistakes, so it's not a unique situation for any of you.

And it's still an enjoyable game, it'll just be even more enjoyable if it gets fixed. It'd be even easier with the toolset. :?

Well, I remember that post..but I went back and looked at official screenshots and you see those same textures in there..so it made me think..is it really a technical issue or is it just something that was not made very well?

Also, there are so many of these in the game that it is hard to believe that those textuers are not getting compressed or are being stretched etc.  Although that is EXACTLY what it looks like..like they are being stretched and making them look improper.

Also he posted a few times then stopped..it's as if he was directed to ignore the topic..which would make me think it's not an issue they are doing anything about.

I could be wrong..I am just frustrated..wait 5 years for a game (well about 3 years on my part) and you expect it to be pretty solid..ESPECIALLY on something like textures.

I think you guys worry too much, either that or you're playing on a console, haha!

Game looks really good on my PC with widescreen res, in-game options up all the way, and video card options up all the way.

I remember when games were about gameplay, which this has tons of.

Again we say most of the game looks terrific..and we are not people who care much for graphcis either..it's just when you get such inconsistency and VERY poor texture it is hard to ignore..

i couldn't care less about the details of anything further than 20 yards away. just give me enough visual info to navigate and that's fine.

the bad part for me is all the zooms during dialog where what looks good at 5 feet looks terrible at 2.

Its an RPG..who gives a ****?

Lots of people...

that´s the sad point.. maybe Bioware shouldn´t have even tried to make good graphics and gone with an old engine, so all these graphic lovers would have been abondoned from begin on, instead of the constant whining now.

No, people would still complain. Do you really think people can be satisfied? :P

Agreed. The PC & NPC textures are well done. However the enviroment textures certainly could use some work. When zoomed in for a video the textures look poor, as if they were made to low quality for the size of the object they were supposed to be on. And thus streched way to large and look very pixelated. While distracting it is not a game breaker but a updated texture pack would be most welcome.

It would be nice if the texture artists took a page from Obsidian and NWN2. Those textures were very well done and scale nicely. Since the DA dev team even used the NWN2 toolset for conception reasons they could use it as a base.

I got a PM from a BioWarian and maybe some others did, he said it does appear that some of the Hi-Res textures were possibly missing from the Hi-Res pack or something of the nature. Said screenshots and their locations would help and gave me his email address.

So if you are playing and see an obvious out of place texture please take a screenshot and also note it's location, compile a list and send them to me and I will gladly keep a record to send to him.

*I* would think it would have been easier just to repack the hi-res texture pack..but I know there are probably tons of textures and it might not be as easy as it seems..anyways.. lets try to do what we can to help.

The graphics aren't the best in the world, especially in the 3D character model quality and textures but they aren't bad. Far too much importance is placed on high-polygon count visuals these days.

Most games that have high-polygon visuals have one extremely annoying thing in common...the environment in which you explore and play tend to look small and claustrophobic, with lots of loading screen nonsense. That's why I love GTA IV, the graphics are a bit dated but it's the seamless world and the sheer scale of things that is important to me, screw the extra polys :)

Admittedly DA has it's fair share of loading screens but the areas are much bigger with epic reveals and structures as you turn every corner. The loading screens are likely also due to the nature of Dragon Age's data structures that make up the levels, which are designed so that players can use the toolset to create their own content. There's usually a trade off in data complexity, and thus visual complexity, when you allow players unfettered access to the game data.

Darrenecm; My loading screens are not bothersome at all...5-10 seconds at most for me..usually more on the 5 seconds.

I also think the polygon counts for the PC's are just fine, as are the textures. They are pretty good actually. It is only those low polygon items like tables, fences..things like that where they are already flat...then having a texture that is seemingly being stretched about 3x what it should be, making it blurry and bad. Looks like the low-res texture..which as we are finding out, might be the case, possibly mispack or missing hi-res textures. I would actually be a lot happier if that were the case, rather than they are just that bad.

Seriously...posts like this aren't needed, if you read the whole thread you'd see that most of the posters don't care about graphics, that we think for the most part this game looks terrific, and then we state there are some inconsistency issues in the game and some textures that appear to be loading low textures which devs have confirmed..

It's quite possible to like RPG's and good graphics too...so such a post is rather silly... and non-productive.

The graphics are awesome in this game, and I don't buy the "I got everything maxed crap", your most likely running it on an outdated computer and expecting more than your graphics card can handle, If you even remotely had a good video card you would be in awe of how detailed this game is.

upgrade and stop posting nonsense.

You're severely mistaken..I just upgraded my PC, and I do play all max (even turning on other things that aren't in the DA settings menu)..and yes some of the game looks terrific.

But there's no denying some of the outdoor scenery is severely lacking (like looking out over the ledge in Ostagar) and that some of the textures are messed up (As a dev has even confirmed for me)

WT eff are you people talking about? The game looks great. Are they the BEST graphics out there? No, but they are very good.

two ways to look at this...

ONE: They chose to focus on the GAME, the story, the combat, etc, and so the graphics suffered a little. Its easier to devote ALL your resources and time to making the game look pretty if you dont care about anything else.

TWO: Of all the things people have a right to complain about, graphics is NOT one of them. There have been TONS of videos, and screens ALL OVER THE WEB for... how long now? There is little excuse for not being aware of the graphic quality before purchase.

This new breed of complainers is a direct result of WoW. They are used to complaining, and hearing others complain, and are even used to getting things changed becasue of complaints once in a while. Fact is, in relation to THIS game, complaining gets you nothing, and FEW here want to hear it.

If you dont like the game, stop playing it. If you didnt buy the PC version (a mistake on your part in this case, but thats another post), you can even return it.

Peace, and happy adventuring!

Shadowfear: If you read the whole thread you would know this, but yes we DO have a right to complain if there is a programming/texture pack issue that is causing some of the bad graphics.

Andrew from BioWare has confirmed that it looks like to him that some of the Hi-res textures didn't get loaded into the Hi-res texture pack for the PC, thus having some very poor textures in places as the screenshots have shown.

So as the thread has contended, we love this game, voices, lore, story, combat etc.. are great..but we didn't understand the inconsistency in textures..which admittely is an issue.

Sorry, but the OP has no credibility. He thinks Crysis -- which bores me to tears -- is a fine game because it's got good graphics? And he has the nerve to complain about Dragon Age's beautiful graphics -- a game that is infinitely more intelligent and strategic than any pathetic FPS?

This is the kind of guy who will insist that a Bugs Bunny cartoon is better than a Rembrandt painting because it moves and has more color.

Stop bothering the adults and go back to your button-masher.

No need to be so harsh, yeah the original post was a bit obnoxious..but throughout the rest of the thread is a better discussion and confirmed there are texture issues in this game for PC.

Look at this wagon:

How can you claim there isn't an issue there?

I guess I'm one of those who feel that if there are bugs with the graphics, they'll get fixed in time.

The graphics aren't the best I've seen in any game and do look a bit dated, but they're certainly good enough for me to enjoy the game. I have to remember whenever I see posts where someone's ragging on how things look that not even photo-realistic is good enough any more. Just like in movies, the real world needs to be enhanced (through CGI) for some people to be wowed or to think something looks awesome, and I'm not sure what that says about us.

I did read the whole thread, all mind-numbing 19 pages of it. You assume I didnt because I disagree with you?
And the thread hasnt contended anything like you suggest. Have YOU read every page? Some of you are saying "the game is great but...", but most of you are saying "the games horrible graphic are deal breaking, worst game ever..." sort of fooey. Those specifically are the people I was addressing.

And again, I propose that you should have done a little research into the graphic capabilities of the game before you purchased it. I did, and as a result I knew exactly what to expect, and Im satisfied.

I have followed the game for quite some time, watched many videos and I was alwasy one to back up the game against graphics haters. But there are BROKEN textures...admittedly by the Devs..so why would I then not point those out..did you look at that image of the wagon and you contend that is a good or even average texture?

The idea that "bugs will get fixed in time if I let someone else report them" is a classic end user mentality in the software world. Many of those same folks get angry later on when that unreported issue still exists after the latest patches.

My impression of the direction that this thread has taken has more to do with helping BioWare identify the missing textures so that they can be fixed (included?) in the upcoming patches.

Looking at the 'wagon' image, it is clear that the wagon does not have anywhere near the same texture quality as the rest of the scene.

Keep reporting the bugs, it'll make a great game even better.

How could i not look at it, its all over this thread, and no, i dont contend thats a good texture. but i DO contend its unimportant in the grand scope of the game, not to mention its becoming a  comical, slightly ridiculous example.

The cries of  "ZOMG! HAVE YOU SEEN THE WAGON!" will echo for years...

I'm glad my screenshot of the wagon is being used a lot here :)

The wagon textures throughout the whole game are not loading correctly or are messed up as we all can see and as the developer notes!! You can see the normal map because of it glistening hi-lights but the hi res texture isn't working!

All the people on here chiming in saying are computers are bad, user settings, it's pathetic and wasteful to even post. What you need to be doing is proving us wrong and showing the texture loads correctly for you!

We are showing issues with bad textures, trying to get the issue resolved. None of us are bashing the game if you read the thread! Just trying to make the immersion look that much better, instead of eye sores that stick out in the good looking game!!
