Those two of the wagon and armor are EXACTLY what I am talking about. They look like LOW res textures. The wagon is the one I notice over and over again throughout the game.

Honestly, they look like textures that have not properly loaded or streamed in. If that is how it looks after several tries of loading the game up and down, that means something is off in the code somewhere.

This is a rendering issue people, not low-resolution textures. Low-res textures do NOT even look like that.

well iam playing just fine at 1920x1080 with very little lag almost none at all. 8AF x4AA details set very high look ok to me. but yes it could be better and it will. Just wait on texture packs this game has alot of mods on the way as soon as they release the tool set. Well for all you XBOX and PS3 owner of the game I dont feel sorry for you. When a game goes multi platform they try to make the game look and run on the same lvl of detail. I have a XBOX and A PS3 and a good computer. This game was ment to be play on the PC and when the mods hit it well show. WOOT TEXTURE PACK ON THE WAY i can feel it.

BTW i dont care if you flame me lol iam to old to care thats what my wife is for lol

Textures suck but... the raw materials are there. Great models, building deigns are terrific and environment effects and spell effects.

All thats missing is decent textures for the statues, tents, shields etc etc so once a modder does a texture pack it will look top notch!

... er assuming you own a PC of course

And neither of those games have been worked on for 5 years. Some of the textures are most likely very old. Upgrading them would have taken another year or 2, and by then they would have looked "bad" also.

Just a guess.

Not the best guess... That's suggesting that games released will always have bad graphics, because they can never keep up with industry trends.  There's not such an insurmountable amount of textures in this game that they will always be behind in standards.

I don't think you really understand the anount of work needed to remake textures for a whole game. Sure, they could always do a re-touch - just some photoshopping and voila! Everything looks better.

But by the time that photosopping would be ready, the game engine itself would be old. And then people would complain about it, and demand upgrades to it... So you see, it is a neverending circle. This game has been done for so long, that it was actually near "Daikatana -phase". And everyone knows, what happened to Daikatana.

The marketing was about the same too: "This is the new ****" vs "Romero is about to make you his ****". ;)

At some point the developers just have to say: "Great. This is it. It's done.".

Hmmm...maybe someone could post actual examples of what they mean by bad graphics?

Often, these things can be quite subjective. Sometimes, however, bad graphics really are bad graphics. Seeing is believing.

Edit : ok, after seeing samples, I don't think the graphics are all that bad.

I think the graphics are okay when you use the high camera setting.

And there will surely be a Texture pack; either from Bioware or Modding Community.

This just reminds me of my shock, when i started the BG 2 tutorial and saw this awful graphics.

But with the time i got lost because of story, char development and combat, so i didnt complain anymore, no, i even enjoyed the rendered backgrounds!

Mummy699 your specs are very similar to mine, so you find the game runs fine with settings all on high? That is great news for me ;D

Also these texture packs, when they come out how do we find out about them/dl them?

Honestly, I won't be losing any sleep getting the 360 version after seeing the PC/360 comparison. The PC screenies look a bit sharper, but the underlying textures are still quite low.

The reason for this is probably the staggeringly huge amount of content on disc: it all has to fit in a limited space. I would rather have an interesting, long-lived game than a shallow, pretty game any day

Honestly, I don't see an issue with the graphics. They're not Crysis, but then again for something that was originally designed to be played in the old school iso view I didn't expect much at the zoom level that was added in later, but even then they're still fair enough. Also keep in mind the final version of the game has essentially been sat on for around six months thanks to EAs marketing team so we're looking at something designed for the average system almost a year ago.
Still, the amount of nitpick about this is hilarious, especially the post about how "the story means nothing if the graphics suck" about an RPG...

What i don't understand is that someone can say in all honesty that graphics don't matter. Seriously graphics have a HUGE impact when it comes to immersion, atmosphere and the feeling of "beeing sucked into the world". If graphics don't matter to you i would like you to dig deep into your game-collection and play something like ultima underworld or even Everequest today. I really doubt that you could bring yourself to playing it 60 hours, i sure know that i couldn't.

Bad graphics? Are we playing the same game? I mean if you expect Crysis type graphics then you never really played an RPG

Graphics look great to me, especially love the blood spurts when you perform a sword move etc

I preordered the 360 version too but i now really will get it on PC. The game looks dated even on high settings on PC the only thing that safes it is the lighting and shadows and that's exactly what got severely dumped down for the 360 Version. That pushes the graphics from "bearable" to "so bland that it really hampers immersion".

And when you listen to the IGN-Videoreview, they clearely say that the game is much easier (=more boring) on Consoles, i didn't want to beliebe it at first but they really dumped down the WHOLE game for consoles, not only graphics but gameplay also. This is unacceptable.

I think the graphics is pretty **** good compared to other RPGs on the XBox 360. Better than Oblivions, about the samne caliber of Fallout 3, a little worse than Mass Effect but not by much. Little graphical errors here and there but I think bugs like that will be fixed over time. This Dragon Age, a RPG, not Mordern Warfare, a rail shooter.

Graphics terrible? Not even close. This in no way looks 10 years old. You know what looks over a decade old, Baldurs gate 2. Shsss, kids these days.....all spoiled brats *rollseyes*

I'm 39. Hardly a spoiled brat or kid. I work hard for a living and don't have a lot of time to play games, so I pick them carefully. I trust Bioware so much that I barely read a review, expecting the quality they have always given. Mass Effect was a beautiful game, one of my all time favs. DAO looks horrible, absolutely horrible, esp,. if you are a visual person. I am.

It may simply be the textures. It could be if you fixed the textures the game would look awesome. But the textures are so bad and blurry that it's hard to tell until they're fixed.

Also, before you tell me I'm crazy or a spoiled brat, note that this is on a 360. The game was designed for the PC, and was ported nicely for the PS3. I read last night on Gamespot that the 360 was the worst of the versions with the graphics being "disappointing". Why on earth would a 360 port be worse than a PS3 port? It makes so sense.

lol first strong element of RPG is story not graphics, and graphics are really solid here, but if this is horrible for you, then just keep it for yourself and change a game.

It's a shame, but I am sure the modding community will intervene and make somekind of highres pack. Similar to the bajillion mods for HL2.

The graphics on characters is fine, and looks great, but the rest of the environment is pretty bland in terms of graphics and textures. I personally try not to think of it, but I imagine a mod will come out later on with better graphics.

You know what? I can't stand this age-old, copy/paste-clichee of a sentence anymore. Want a good story? Play Infocom-Textadventures, they're way ahead of anything that came afterwards.

In the days of Pen & Paper surely Story was what mattered the most, because, well, there wasn't much else. But nowadays on new media? Graphics DO matter a lot. Ever heard of visual storytelling? Of the way way landscapes and artwork "tell" storys so evocative that normal narratives would have difficulties to even grasp? A sense of epic awe when you enter a new location? All this can be realised by good graphics and artwork. Think Half Life 2, think Dead Space, Bioshock, Deus Ex and yes, even Mass Effect.

Dragon Age on the other Hand has good artwork occasionally but horrid graphics and a very derivative artdirection (Lord of the Rings anyone?) but if the graphics are as barebones as the 360 version it gets really difficult to take this world seriously. Not to mention the ridiculous characteranimations... .

Can you guys provide us with screenshots so we can see what you're talking about? Aside from a few object textures, the game looks terrific to me, and I'm a self-professed graphics ****.

Eh... why not we post screenshot of our game shall we? With high or very highest setting. Why I get the feeling this problem is depending on their rigs?

Graphics won´t make good game I played Crysis and it was TOTAL CRAP! easy and lame story and on Mass Effect Graphics was not so great but story and dialogue was great!

if you wanna play good graphics game what lacks story and its only grind fest play crysis or other ones

if you wanna have good game with good story play this

this is world of choice no one says here "you must play it if you don´t like it"

Ingrimm, I play plenty of oldschool games, including new ones like Avernum and Geneforge that have rather poor graphics. Why? Because the gameplay is great! And these games are LONG - like seriously long. Immersion? Not a problem.

I feel sorry for those born without imagination. Books must really suck for you..

Because the 360 has inferior hardware to the PS3? Someone was bound to exploit the PS3's full potential sooner or later, I'm just surprised that Bioware managed to do so **** well on their first go, and that's even after the everyone was really afraid after the notice that the PS3 version would be delayed, and then a few weeks ago it was retracted.

I hear you on your visual aspect problem. Like it or not, games are a visual medium and thus needs to be visual adapt in order to appeal to the audience, hardcore, casual or old-timer. People saying anything else are people without the problem, or people who are just ignoring the problem, but it doesn't mean it can't be fixed.

The game doesn't come with these bad textures. It's god-****ed obvious these are LOD maps or some serious case of bad texture streaming. They were not made this way.

I believe soon enough we'll have some help in getting these textures fixed, but BioWare has other issues that are more pressing (like this site)

I suggest we keep it friendly, and be inviting to the BioWare developers so they do not IGNORE this thread (on the Mass Effect PC forum there was a similar problem, but the developers never responded because people were being obnoxious) so I suggest we all behave nicely to eachother.

That goes both ways, of course.
