- Marksman "special" HS evolution that works so well vs regular enemies DOES NOTHING in case of boss headshots (BUG ?)
- Pistol Cranial Trauma System V (pistol add-on) the other "special" HS modifier DOES NOTHING in case of boss headshots (BUG ?)
- headshot 20% WD in case headshots passive WORKS in case of boss headshots; same for Targeting VI consumable and Vulnerability VI gear
- debuffs WORK in case of boss headshots (was concerned because they are in fact true head shot modifiers - unlike most of the headshot bonuses from passive//gear//consumables)
-unrelated Densified Ammunition V still provides 12% WD bonus

Will update as we test more

Test Results

Boss HS mechanics

Turian Soldier (1425 shields)
30% WD passive
20% WD in case of HS passive
31.25% "special" marksman HS bonus

PM 20% debuff

Javelin V (25% WD; AP mod )
(((1288.1 - 1030.5) / 9) * (5 - 1)) + 1 030.5 = 1144.9888 base damage

PhalanX X (40% PCTS; AP mod)
143.5 base damage

10% WD Densified ammunition gear (EDIT surprise still 12%)

Base readings

Silver Geth Trooper Body shot

143.5 * (1 + 0.3 + 0.12) = 203.77 // Densified ammunition V is still 12% to all weapon damage

Silver Geth Trooper Head shot (marksman off)

Could not test with PM debuff - javelin V + phalax X too heavy on the cooldown

143.5 * (1 + 0.3 + 0.12 + 0.2) * ((2.5 * (1 + 0.4 + 0.3125)) + 0.2) = 1041.75619

Good to know. I guess I'll never use cranial trauma system again. Does the extended barrel for anything for boss headshots?

I guess BW wants to avoid Bosses going down too fast.
With everything speced for headshots, Gear and Consumable and weapon mods etc ... Bosses won´t be bosses anymore.

If densified ammo still gives 12% can you check if the ones that were boosted to 12% are actually that and not 10%?

Peddro - as always appreciate the work you put into this. They should really put you on the payroll. Anyone else would simply be enjoying the game right now let alone jotting down statistics.

Thanks for the clarifications, peddro. So, we won't be taking out those cranial trauma mods yet. Btw, I don't have any statistics, but just played a bit of gold and it was hell to shoot the Atlas' exhaust ports.  They constantly turned around like ballerinas so that they didn't point your back to you (even if all the teammates surronded them). I do not not how they could possess such flexibility.

Edit: Btw, did you test/will you be testing if the targeting VI consumables worked properly for boss headshots?

Explaination:

Headshots applied to non-bosses are a multiplier that is attached to the guns.  These vary but give a weapon around 2-3 times its base damage when targetting the head with the exception being every projectile weapon but the Graal and Kishock don't apply this.  The passive tree stacks an additional 25% or whatever it is so for example you get the gun bonus with 2.75 times the damage for headshots when take the passive tree headshot damage.

The patch notes specificaly say that you gain 40% extra weapon damage when targetting the "weak spots" of the enemy.  So if your damage for a bullet in the weapon is 100 to make this easy, a headshot on minions gives you 200 damage per bullet to the head with a gun having a 2 times damage headshot multiplier.  Targetting a bosses weak spot gives you 1.4 times 100 and the damage comes out to 140.

When you go to weapons like the Crusader, Harrier or Claymore to pull a few off the top of my head.  A 1.4 times bonuse to their damage to a weak spot is significantly more than something like a Predator or Phanlanx.

Tl:dr the multiplier isn't a headshot multiplier of 200-300% but a weapon damage multiplier of 140%

Though after reading your post above this one it is wierd that the Vulnerability mods effect the 40% weapon damage while passives don't.  Good info and good work to you sir

This is how I read it:

It's not really a head shot.  It's a weak point with a 40% bonus.  As such, Cranial and headshot evolutions will not buff that bonus damage.  I am unclear if mods and ammunition consumables are factored prior to or after the 40% damage bonus.

Pasive gives 20% not 25% weapon damage bonus .. And will not add to the headhsot modifier like you seem to believe .. Its just a regular weapon damage bonus that only adds with the rest in case of headshots ..Works for mooks and bosses ...

Yes the boss headshot modifier is 1.4 .. It works ..

Targeting VI III only gives +35% weapon damage for headshots? That sucks, I thought it was +100%. Was it changed with the patch because of boss headshots?

Also, how do weapons with a different headshot multiplier affect bosses e.g the Kishok or Graal?

As far as I know Targeting VI III always was only 35%

All boss head shots will be 40% even if the weapon has a special bonus to increase that value. But head shots bonuses from powers and gear will increase head shot damage.
