Will the protagonist engage in party banters as well?! please please tell me....it was so nice to have Hawke talk to his companions in Legacy and MOTA.<3

I'd really rather the PC didn't talk without prompting, except for the simplest and least characterful things.

David, I have a request related to party banter, I would love an option to turn on subtitles for party banter (and other ambient conversations) but not for the main conversation interface.

I ended up turning on subtitles primarily so that I could hear (well, read) the party banter as I found it was often hard to hear since the companions were walking some way behind me (since Hawke was usually anti-socially several yards in front of her companions).

P.S. I really liked the party banter in DA2 (and DAO for that matter).

So the first thing I must ask is, has there been any word at all from Bioware if they will have all of that in yet again?

Although you have been long renowned for just this I'm sure some would say this stuff is a minor detail in the grand scheme of things, but it really is one of the details of BioWare's games that I love the most.

The DA series in particular, actually. I was especially impressed with how well MotA and Legacy incorporated reams of new banter.

Reading that DA3 will potentially have even more is just plain awesome.

Why wouldn't they include it? I mean it's the only reason I even bother having different characters in my team when I play.

Party banter is a staple of the series. It's been in DAO,RtO(thought admittedly only for Wynn,Loghain and Alistair)DA:A,Witch Hunt, DA2, Legacy and Mark of the Assassin. If there is no party banter or worse, it's not better, I will be very disappointed.

The party banter is one of my fav parts about the DA series.

I hope they change it so I get to roleplay.

Sometimes they would gang up on Merrill and say stuff like: I wish you were dead, and so on. It felt incredibly weird that I didn't get a chance to say anything and defend Merrill. Especially since Merrill and Hawke were together at that point. So Hawke was just standing there, staring like an idiot, while the girlfriend was being verbally assaulted. Banter like that was frustrating, because I just had to accept it and didn't get a say in the matter.

Is it possible to have a separate voice slider for the banter as it is not very loud in the game and sometimes i miss what is said?

I feel the same way. In both DA:O and DA2 I had the subtitles on, but they appear over the character's head, which is behind the camera usually. So whenever I'd hear what sounded like one of my companion's voice, I'd have to stop and do a quick spin so I don't miss it.

What if the subititles just appeared in the place that subititles normally appear in, the bottom of the screen, regardless of camera orientation? That would help a lot.

Party bantern is just glitter, like commercials in tv. They have no actual effect on the gameplay nor the character interaction, none of the banter discussions are adressed in the actual discussion between characters. Though its kind of fun to hear, its totally irrelevant.

I'm not really sure how you can seriously say that interaction between the characters isn't character interaction.

You guys are awesome

One thing I would like to add--I liked how ME3 added location context to party banter.  It didn't just happen when you were walking around with people.  Garrus and Vega snarked at one another in the mess hall.  Kaidan and Vega hung out at the card table.  It was nice to see everyone moving around the ship and actually using all that space.

If there's no party camp in DA3 this might be hard to implement, but there could be hangout "hubs" like the bar in DA2 for companions.  Just a thought.

@Dhiro: "My" character should never speak without my consent - I do find it insanely irritating.

However - let those NPCs go hog-wild with dialogue. I'd sit back for a bit and listen if I'm invested in the NPCs.

One of my favorite converstaions of the whole game was during MOA when (if you are in a romance with Fenris):

Fenris: You frightened me.
Hawke: Me?
Fenris: Before we found you, there was a moment when I... Don't do that again.

Even though I'm not controlling the conversation of Hawke it thougght it added to the whole relationship between the characters, rather than detracting from it.  If it's small things like that, then I'm all for it.

Never doubted it, but still glad to hear it.

I think the party banter just got consistently better from Origins to Awakening to DA2, and it was pretty great to begin with.

Party banter is a thing that differentiates DA from other RPG in a simular setting. It's one of the reasons why I like the franchise.

I often stopped to just listen to the going on conversation between companions in DAO and DA2. Made several laps in town just so I might trigger one even.

Only question in this is, am wondering if it's possible to get the conversations to stop if the party gets into battle during them..Had that happen several times..the conversation went on (fellt weird to be honest). In other words; timing when they are triggered and a fight starts.

Yeah this was great and I would love to see it utilized in DA3 if it fits with the locations on offer and the way they are handling party chatter in general.

One of my favourite pieces of fan art for DA2 (below, by Pseudocognition) always made me want to see the DA2 group sitting around a poker table playing cards, it just fit so well - even more so once the game came out in my opinion.

Seeing the poker table stuff in ME3 made me wish I had been able to watch Varric and co in the same way. That ME3 style of location based banter just feels like a good fit for such scenes.

Eh. Sorry, I don't like "random". Character development is great, but that shouldn't occur with a RNG as you stumble across triggers.

My favourite example (DA2 spoiler follows):
Merrill faces her tribe. Doesn't go well; have to slaughter them all. Before leaving the area, Aveline's love life makes Merrill giggle and they have a little chat about it. Inappropriate as all hell, and increases my distaste for a game I already in many, many ways resented.

It wouldn't be BioWare without party banter. I don't take it for granted. Not by a long shot. But it is one of the reasons that I prefer BioWare fantasy games to all others, and I'm glad to see confirmation that it's staying.

You know what would be *really* cool? One or two location-specific banters. Nothing to go hog-wild over. More like extended interjections, like if, during Varric's "Haunted" quest, when Isabela shrieks and says "We get it, already. The place is haunted," Anders had chimed in with "I've never heard of ghosts outside the Fade" and then Isabela retorted with "Can't your friend just tell them to stop?" Anyway, it's just a suggestion. That part is probably long done, and the voice acting, too, probably. Just thought I'd put it out there.

Nice. I've never had a problem with any of the party banter in either game. They've always been a nice insight into characters, and often hilarious to overhear.

Both DA:O and DA2 have one flaw with dialogue bantr -it started at certain map locations, like Orzzammar bridge and stairs at Docks area. So if you happen to walk there back and forth often you can deplete all the banter very soon.

IN DA:O the banter always stopped each time an ambient sound started. It`s was so annoying. They changed it so that does not happens anymore. in DA:O banter only started when you walked on 'trigger' from a fresh loading. I noticed it very quickly and it`s annoyed me. A lot of folk complained about it . Some trigger were really far apart and you could miss on very funny banter if you were cut because a dog barked and cut the conversation.

So I think that why they added place for banter to happens in more appropriate place.  Another thing I hated in DA:O it`s how you could unlock every dialogue very soon in the game with gift spamming and knowing what to answer. So you just ended up min/maxing conversation and it`s felt very shallow.

For instance each time I failed a conversation I reloaded. I think DA2 was much more improved on dialogue and banter between you and the companions.
