What I believe is Volus would be a fun addition, and scientifically I believe in the power of space-magic (i.e. technology beyond our pitiful comprehension being present in a science fiction videogame). All it takes is a giant mechanized suit several inches thick at the thinnest point to protect a volus from any of these injuries you speak of.
As far as how they can be wounded enough to need medigel without having exploded, I daresay a similar suspension of belief is required as with Geth Characters being healed with Medigel, which even according to space magic is total BS but works anyway what with this being a video game and whatnot. People need to broaden their imaginations and stop being so uptight about science fiction and the possibilities therein; if everyone thought like you, none of the best Sci-Fi movies/TV-shows/games would have ever been made.
If you aren't willing to think outside the box (and suspend at least a little belief) then you're playing/watching the wrong genre, so stop trying to tell the rest of us what can and can't be done in a science fiction universe you had no part in creating and as such no basis for making such sweeping statements about what is and isn't possible. Not being happy about it is anyone's prerogative, but only people involved in making the universe in question are allowed to comment on what is possible therein, who are you (or any of us) to tell them what they can do? We're allowed to like it or not as we see fit, but it's their show, and we're just the ones along for the ride. If you want off, by all means, just stop putting down everyone else for liking where we're going and wanting to see more.
