Because the same lore junkies would remember that volus' incapability for combat is why they're a client race for the turians.Mendelevosa wrote...
It's funny, because you think these lore-junkies would remember that Volus are manufactures of Elkoss Combine armor and weapons. That brand can be found on tons of soldiers. So who's to say that the Volus didn't create armor and weapons specifically for their own species?
Same as with drell and hanar. They suck at it, so have others do it for them.

Anyway, people arent complaining about free DLC. I know we are ALL grateful to Bioware for giving us so much free content. They're complaining because...well, take a scan through the thread.

I love the volus in Mass Effect, but I have concerns about seeing them as a playable race. They're savvy negotiators and businessmen. They're confined to pressure suits that reduce them to waddling everywhere.
I'm not dead set against it, but I'm worried that Volus in multiplayer could ruin what they are. Making them more "badass" in order to make them playable characters would lose something about them, it would take away some of what makes them unique.
That said, I could see lore reasons for volus to have fighters capable of operating alongside turians. They've been working on this since humans were in the stone age, and the one reason they're not admitted to the council is a lack of a military. They've clearly developed bombers, and maybe their numbers are low, but I could believe that they've developed armored suits that would reduce the risk of depressurization in combat (additional layers of armor perhaps?...)
So.. my acceptance of volus as a playable race depends a lot on how it's handled. I just don't want to see them turned into something they're not.

I. would. play. that. So. Much.
Understand the hard time people have accepting Volus, but not sure why they are being so venomous about it?
Just chill out.
If they are a released class, I'm curious to see how they overcome their slow movements, both in game and animation-wise. I imagine having a downed teammember on the other side of a map will have to reachable somehow by the litte dudes.
Also they are smaller targets, so there is also that (good think there's no PVP then)

Bolded is the best arguement I've seen for being against Volus thus far. It's not really to preserve lore, it's to preserve how they are portrayed.
Underlined is something that has been brought up, but I don't think my counter arguement has been brought up to it. Volus are smart. They already have plenty of influence at the Citadel. They do not need a seat on the council and I would not put it past the Volus to say that they are pacifists just so they don't have to fight, not because they can't.

Same deal with how there are so many darn ArdotYakshee banshees, despite it originally being presented as a minimal thing....I mean surely their supplies for their troops would run out right?( this could be said for all classes and enemy variants in he game actually)

The game was NOT FREE and there is virtually no way to play the MP without all the "free" DLCs.Immortal Strife wrote...
31 pages about not wanting FREE DLC, this community is pathetically spoiled.
BioWare is changing the game people bought in a way some of their customers do not approve. As long as it stays civilized (and preferably at least somewhat constructive), I dont see any reason people should not voice their concerns and issues on the official forums.
I am going to wait until the DLC is out, but I would find it disappointing, if the DLC really contained four Volus classes and not a single Salarian.

Based on what we've seen in Mass Effect 2, I doubt the volus are strictly pacifists. But they are clearly physically and psychologically ill suited to violence.Lord Rosario wrote...

It's plain in the trilogy that the volus resent not being given a seat on the council. While they're clearly interested in earning that seat doing the things they're naturally good at, I could see the argument for them trying to figure out ways around the ground-combat problem. I can also see how such a project couldn't turn out enough personnel to change their position in the big picture.
You can train to compensate for awkward mobility, and a lack of violent instincts.. but the methane-based high pressure biology is inescapable (on Illium you do hear ads about treatments but it's plainly a scam). Any solution to that would need to be technological.

Ok, if Volus do indeed resent that they don't have a seat on the council, my statement about not wanting it is obviously out the window.
As for their pressure suits, it's entirely possible with the technology they have to have redundant systems that would make it nearly impossible to depreasurize, but would also allow them to get hurt. I explained that having a shield membrane on the inside of their suit that is only there to keep pressure and anything else would pass through it. With that, they could indeed get hurt, shot at, and even heal with medigel without losing pressure.
Yes, a technological solution, but one that is already in effect and very possible in the ME universe.
