Think ME2 just pips it for me, feels a tad less linear and has a few more sidequests, more stuff to discover, but it's a hairline thing. Both cracking games. That said, Mass Effect 3 is the one that I've worn out three discs of, so who knows!

Dark_Caduceus wrote...

The fact that Mass Effect 2 didn't have a plot, and Mass Effect 3's plot was utterly broken aren't opinions. They're objective facts.

Now, you can of course like Mass Effect 2 (despite not having a plot) or Mass Effect 3(despite the plot being a broken mess) the most, but you can only do so if you don't care about the games' story.

That's an "opinion", though a rather poorly formed one.

I really, sincerely hope for your own sake that you don't truly believe a single word you just said. Who on Earth do you think you are?

Good on you OP. I've tried enjoying the game but I simply can't, glad some people out there are able to enjoy it though.

The same here, but (sadly) I find MP more enjoying than SP in ME3...

OP, I enjoyed ME3 very much, too. I think one's opinion of ME3 is predicated on what you were hoping to get out of ME3. For me, it was a nice, emotional farewell to those companions I'd encountered on the journey. I think ME3 accomplished that in spades. For that reason, I am not wishing for any continuation of Shepard's story or really, anyone tied to him/her.

I personally prefer Mass Effect 2 for it's Single Player mode. Mass Effect 3 was a deception to me after I experienced the second game. The only thing that saves ME3 so far, for me, is multiplayer mode I don't even play anymore and having Kaidan as an optional love interest for Male Shepard. Other than that, I felt like Mass Effect 2 was the better game.

I respect your opinion but I don't see how ME3 is at all better than ME2 put aside a few things.

Actually this does sort of apply to me. I used to play a lot of games when I was younger but returned to serious gaming again after about 10 years with ME2. So whilst I've played lots of games over the years the Mass Effect games are in effect my comeback titles. I don't think ME3 is a bad game at all, in fact I'm on my 4th playthrough and am loving it. But, I don't really have any contemporary games to compare it with so it's hard to say how good (or bad) it really is compared to others. However, I find that if a game doesn't capture me within that first hour then I'll likely never play it again. I'm not so interested in the non-combat side of these games but I love the action stuff. ME2 and 3 rock in combat for me and I just love the way they both play. It doesn't matter if any game is better or worse than other games, the main thing is whether you enjoy playing it. I'm a software developer myself and I know how much time, effort and skill it takes to write any form of complex software. The vast majority of us would have no way to create a game like this and because I'm kind of in the know then I find it hard to over criticise. ME3 isn't perfect (but then what game is?), but it took a lot of skill to create and maybe we should honour that effort a bit more even if we think it could be better?

Honouring a game that killed dreams and happiness in the hearts of the many? Nope... Not for me...
Good for you if you liked Mass Effect 3 though.

I didn't say honour the game. I suggested we should maybe at least appreciate the time, effort and skills it takes to create a game like ME3, even if it isn't your favourite.

And I do enjoy it despite the slightly lacklustre final mission.

My two cents:Neither ME 1, 2, or 3 are perfect. They all have their shortcomings. But they also have some kind of Magic in the way they pretend to let you decide freely which path you'll take with your Shepard and the way they created a distinct and likeable character that really pushed the games above KotOR in my oppinion. I have played basically every BioWare game other than Shattered Steel, DA: Awakening and DA 2 and I think the ME games are the best - in certain respects. BG 1 & 2 are beautiful games with rich content, but the ME series excells them in other aspects like presentation and cross game connection.

As gaming experiences go, ME3 was bloody brilliant. I laughed, I cried, I shot some people in the head, good times. But it was preaching to the converted. My investment in the series made ME3 great, not ME3 itself per se. If I jumped straight into ME3 without playing the 1st two, I probably wouldn't give a hoot about Liara, Ashley, Tali, Samara, et al. and the experience would be massively lessened. Best game ever? Hmm. Best series ever? Hell yea.

That's so full of hyperbole, I don't even know where to start.

But seriously, if the game has affected you so much, you should cut down on playing games. It's not healthy.

Still the best game ever I have ever played. I'm really intrested to see what Halo 4 will bring, but ME3 is still by far the best game I have ever played. I just wish I could continue my Shepard on in ME4.

Just makes me curious, where does the franchise go from here? If the repears are defeated, does the series need to move backward you think? Like back in time to a "previous cycle's" war (or something to that effect)?

Yes i know that is the best :D:D:D:D:D:D

That's okay. It's a shame that the game spoiled your story and I wouldn't expect you to honour that aspect if you feel it let down your expectations.

As for me I'm lucky in that I have little to compare the game with so I just enjoy it for the action and mayhem I can create when I play it. It's also not a hard game so I can run amok through the combat missions and not die every 5 seconds. It forgives my mistakes and lets me carry on even at the higher difficulties which not all games I've played in the past have done. I like that and it makes feel like I'm achieving something instead of getting put down all the time. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a bad player but I'm not really hardcore either and BioWare cater for gamers who just want a fighting chance at finishing a game.

The problem with ME2 is not that it didn't have a plot, but that the plot was completely static. ME2's story didn't move the overarching plot forward in any meaningful way.

You can easily skip ME2 and directly go from ME1 to ME3, you won't be missing anything important, other than the introduction to a bunch of new characters and factions.

ME2's plot can be perfectly described with 1 single TV trope: Status Quo is God.

I don't agree at all. ME 2 had a fantastic overacrching plot that tied into the central reaper plot nicely. At first it seemed like a side plot game but it revealed alot about the reapers and their invasion.

I won't lie, the ending to Mass Effect 3 and the final mission have serious flaws, they're lackluster and could have been so much more. But that hasn't stopped me from enjoying the hell out of ME3. I can look past the few flaws the game has because I understand how hard it is to end a trilogy, especially one that had so much expectations riding on it. I am happy with what we got.

The thing I really love about ME3 is the characters. In Me1 and ME2 I loved them and thought they were well done, but in ME3 I weeped for them, it was the first game where I literally felt on the verge of tears before the final Earth Mission because I knew it would be the last time I saw them. It was the first game were I actually felt something real for the characters involved and to see all of them find closure in their personal stories was great.

They say drinking alcohol, smoking, and eating fast food isn't healthy either. Anyway, I agree with Teddie Sage that the original ending was... terrible, to say the least. I had never been so sad and confused after finishing a game (or a movie or a book for that matter). Perhaps it's because I immersed myself so much in the story. I couldn't play the game again until the EC came out. Although the current ending is far, far from great, it's... acceptable, I guess. At least I can replay the game, but that is mostly because of a glimmer of hope for my Shep at the end and my good imagination...

Ruder than implicating people who like a (highly publically- and critically-acclaimed) game as the heartless lovers of a big, grey dreamcrusher?

Get real. The universe is bigger than the maudlin self-pitying nonsense rattling around inside your head. And yes - that was rude. Intentionally so. You were being so dreadfully accusatory that you've attracted hostility back. Passive aggressive sniping isn't as clever as you think it is.

I felt the same about my "friends" when I got to the final rally in London. Stepping off the Normandy for the last time felt very sad even though I knew it was just a game. And then speaking to my squad mates at the FOB knowing that "my" Shepard wouldn't see them again or be with Garrus again made me feel quite emotional actually. Then seeing her all beat up and bloodied on the Citadel and watching Anderson pass away was extremely sad. Despite the flaws of that last mission, the game did deliver an emotional ending in many respects. The EC was much better too, as I got to see more of what happened to them all in the aftermath. BioWare did a nice job with the EC and I'm more than happy with what I've got for my money.
