I dunno. She did magically stitch her head back on in one of my playthroughs, so she's more than meets the eye...

Though in my romanced import I was kinda miffed she didn't know where her lover was. That is not good relationship communication, Leliana.

It's called "retcon".

Seriously, it's possible they realized she should play a big role in DA3 and regretted they did not give her a plot armor in DAO. So they made her canonically alive, implausible though it might seem to the players who had actually BEHEADED her.

Because it wouldn't be a good canon story if they hero of DAO kills one of his followers, after he has defiled the urn of a revered being.
Wynne is the only one who is canon dead at the moment and her death is meaningful. Leliana's death would be pointless.

Because not every character is meant to die in games. Its obvious that she will play a important story role which is awesome.

When someone that got decapitated manage to stitch their head back and still keep their neural functions i suppose they might have either some godly power.. or the power of retcon happened

Maybe because Leliana is Dragon Age's Liara? Really, in DA2 she was almost everywhere!

in all truth, I think she have some important part in DA3. And she is a connection with the first game.

if you have to choose between siding with the templars or mages she would probably choose templars and your mage friends would choose mages so maybe to cause conflict??? but no there must be so much more!

You really are over exaggerating, she only appears as a cameo in two DLC's and at the end of the game she has a small cameo. In DA 2 that is.

She asked Liara if she could'be borrowes her plot armour. That's why SPOILER

Liara can die during Harbinger's attack in ME3. Leliana didn't return the plot armour back.

when i realised leliana was alive no matter what i was frustrated...but then i realised that leliana died in the same chamber where you defiled the urn of andraste...a sacred chamber by all means.what if some of the ashes prevailed and brought leliana back?

Possible, but I thought defiling the ashes tainted them and removed any sort of power they may have, as Kolgrim tells you to take a pinch of ashes before you pour the blood into the urn.

If Bioware explains why she isn't dead in games where she got killed or even beheaded, then it won't be a retcon.  Maybe an original intentcon, but I'm willing to cut the authors some slack there.  If they had to always stick to their first intent when writing, we'd get some serious stream-of-conscioussness BS.  Ack!  I'm guessing the explanation will be supernatural. We already have explanations for why Flemeth and Wynne (prior to DAO) didn't stay dead.  So throw Leliana on the fire.  Um, like throw another log on the fire.  I don't mean to burn her. I like Leliana!. At any rate, will Bioware really address the beaheading possibility?  Probably not.  I think that will be dismissed as a combat thingamajig and not something that really has to be addressed.  Only the murder knife counts.  (Now I wish that gameplay didn't ever have to be dismissed for the story but I can accept that divide being their sometimes.  If it were up to me, I'd let you ask Leliana about the rumors of her beheading and she'd just laugh uncomfortably and say the rumors were unfounded as she touched the scars on her neck.  But I'm an idiot and find such things amusing.)

Pretty much this. In fact I believe it was said that Leliana was the only thing they retconned for the series, everything else is fair game at the moment.

The role of the maker and fate etc is probably going to be a huge thing.

She's also the Liara of the Dragon Age world.

I just wish if they were going to make her a standard character in the series you never had the ability to kill her in the first game.

The only good thing on her revival is that i can kill her again. Hopefully i can devise some gruesome dead for her - like being torn apart by horses or burn alive at stake for witchcraft.

Wynne also attacks you, if you defile the urn.
