Is it possible to allow someone else to take over a thread if the topic creator no longer posts but the original post needs to be updated? A duplicate thread could be started, but then links to the original would be broken.

If a Moderator agrees that edits are in order, they have the authority to edit such posts. Choose a friendly moderator and name the suggested edits in a PM to see if he / she is interested in helping.
